What an eventful weekend. Friday night we celebrated Tom's birthday (and I stayed sober! wow!) out in North Hollywood. Last night I went to a birthday party/murder mystery party that was both stupid and amazing in equal measure (and I didn't stay sober! wow!). Got home shortly before sunrise and managed to make it into [...]
I've realized, over the last twelve months, that Saturdays and Sundays are pretty much useless as far as content is concerned, because my readership drops over 100 visitors per day on the weekends. That's what Saturdays are (and always will be unless something amazing happens following Friday's post) world news stories, and Sundays are (for now) going to remain Sunday Mix Tape day. If you want to curate a Mix Tape, all you have to do is put one together, archive the files (.zip or .rar) and use MediaFire to upload it to the Internet. Send me a link to [...]

When you're a huge music connoisseur/weekly blog contributor/new music scavenger, two things are bound to happen: 1) you pretty much turn into a huge elitist douche, if you weren't one already, and 2) you end up purchasing a ton of albums every week and inevitably never listen to 80% of them until at least half a year later. Well, it's been about seven months since I bought Hotel Alexis ' new album, Goliath, I'm On Your Side , so it looks like I'm right on time in checking this band out. Similar to their previous [...]

This is the summer driving playlist. You may find the first summer mixtape here . Sometimes I need a good driving playlist, sometimes I need the concrete motivation of Ben Gibbard cooing about the day that mile markers seemed to call his name to say "You're safer now, through every town I'll light your way in reflective green. All the way, the entire state of Carolina waits for me." Sometimes I need to hear Glossary proclaiming that I should just "Throw the map out and drive," and sometimes my friends, you do too. So that [...]
I'm sure you're all being slaves to the television and watching Academy Awards-related programming, but I have chosen to compile for you a new Mix Tape. Tomorrow you will be blessed with Episode 5 of The Best Podcast You Have , Circulations Amethyst. The title is "Vibrophile". I thought "Heroin Cheek" would've been funnier. Normally I don't pay any attention whatsoever to the names of these Mix Tapes. You could download them and conjure your own titles, for all I care. This week I received a nice comment from Tim in Cairo, Egypt, and after a couple [...]

Night Highway, Orvar Atli Thorgeirsson Soft Soft War - The Hotel Alexis This song has circled me (or I have circled it) for weeks since I heard it on Paper Thin Walls . Like a smiling wolf, like a charming serial killer (have I ironically watched too many Lifetime movies , or is there any other kind?) asking if I'd like a ride in its convertible. It's still an enigma, [...]
With the elder Lindner brother's impending release of the aforementioned Flying Canyon record it seems almost too appropriate that his younger brother and former collaborator in Golden Hotel is set to release his follow-up to the 2004's luminous The Shining Example Is Lying on the Floor in September. Sidney Lindner definitely takes some influence from his older brother and his collaborators. The lazy folk strums found on Goliath, I'm On Your Side recall the whimsy that pervades the best of The Skygreen Leopards work. His songs, however add a touch backporch canyon country and dust it [...]
