Besides being the #1 day for heart attacks (which at my age matters), Mondays just suck in my opinion. First in line is Sunday and then Monday, two sucky days in a row. It's especially bad when you are in the situation I'm in these days. Well, I really should try to write an album review but I am stuck in a swirling haze of mixtapes. I love putting together a compilation of new and old songs based on a theme or a sound. It's also good exposure to new or old bands that you [...]

I originally gave this album a spin without knowing anything about The Hourly Radio , and I could have swore at first that it was a British band paying homage to the 80's New Wave sound ( Modern English 's I Melt With You came to mind). Boy was I wrong. The Hourly Radio is a foursome hailing from Dallas, TX (not too far from London, right?!?) which formed back in 2003. Their first release was the self produced Lure of the Underground EP back in January of 2005, and their first full [...]

On Monday, there is a pretty good show coming to Black Cat . An excellent Dallas band called The Hourly Radio will be headlining and DC's own City-State will be providing the support. In honor of the event, I will be giving away 2 tickets to the show. All you have to do is send me an e-mail to win. Winner will be notified by the end of the week. Enjoy some tunes and good luck! The Hourly Radio - Deaf Ears The Hourly [...]

It's pretty awesome being the sole proprietor here at ThaBombShelter. Partly because of the fame, partly because of the women, but mostly because of the free stuff. Take tonight, for example. I was a bit at a loss for what album to review, but when I came home and checked the mail, what greeted me in the mailbox but the debut full-length CD from this Texas band. I've never heard of The Hourly Radio, but their presser and website both mention the fact that they've toured with the likes of stellastarr* ( disclosure- I'm not a [...]

The Hourly Radio is a name not unfamiliar to me, but one I hadn't actually listened to until today. Now that their touring and hitting NYC very soon, I decided it was time to finally sit down and take a listen. Singer Aaron Closson has a voice very similar to the somewhat nasally vibrato of Brian Molko. But then in Means To An End , it sounds as if he's channeling Geddy Lee of Rush. I'd definitely recommend this if you're a fan of Placebo... or in a mood to brood. I always [...]

For the past week I have been obsessed with the new album by The Hourly Radio that some lovely person from (I think) the Musebox sent to me a couple weeks ago. I first saw this Dallas band when they scored an opening spot at Bowery for stellastarr* (who are huge fans of theirs) and then later when they played a great month long residency at Annex. The Hourly Radio have also played with Editors (yum), a huge I Rock I Roll favorite, and the bands are very well suited for each other [...]

Leave it to The Hourly Radio to release the best cover I've heard all year, 11 days before 2006 is complete! For the record and those keeping score at home, my other favorite covers of the year include (but are not limited to) Final Fantasy's cover of Mariah's 'Fantasy', The Walkmen's crack on 'Many Rivers To Cross' and The Gaskets' live-staple 'Got My Mind Set On You'. The Hourly Radio JUST sent us their acoustic take on the James classic, 'Say Something', and it's fucking genius. The band somehow manages to keep the simplicity [...]

Fresh off of ACL Fest in our sister city of Austin, we have a festival heavy week here in the Baltimore Region. I have been tipped off on 4 festivals for this upcoming weekend. In addition, there are several other shows this week that are not festival related. The week starts off Tuesday with Chicago's Catfish Haven bringing their soulful sound to Black Cat . Wednesday brings New London Fire , [...]

I just realized before going to sleep that the title says 08/06/06. Obviously I meant to to type 09/06/06, oh well it's late so whatever. This week brings us a couple of releases worth mentioning on the Graboid, with the one album I highly recommend being Grizzly Bear's Yellow House . I've already written about how much I love this album, and pretty much every blogger pretty much agrees that it's one of the best releases of the year. [...]
Candy Hotpants loves you, dear readers! I had this amusing idea during my morning commute, that I would start a parody blog -- of myself ("Candy Hotpants Saves Indie Rock!"), in which I planned to make fish stories out of my experiences in "The Scene," but that seemed, you know, a bit excessive. Ha! So, instead, a giant entry, just for you. Kiki and Herb , who we posted about a while back , have a new show, Kiki and Herb: Alive on Broadway , running through through September 10 at the [...]
