The music of The Housemartins and The Beautiful South, connected by a gentleman who celebrated his 50th birthday this week, Mr. Paul Heaton! (50 minutes) This episode sponsored by: Featuring: Title Artist Album Original Artist More [...]

Today is Canadian Flag Day. A mere 47 years ago, the flag of Canada was officially inaugurated. Why isn't this a national holiday? Our flag is important, and quite pretty. Most people didn't even know it was flag day! Let's get this movement going. Here are some facts about our flag: - it's red - it's white - it has a maple leaf on it - The government gave away a million flags after the Quebec referendum to promote national unity, costed the government $15-million. - The Americans think our flags [...]
Nothing did more to further the cause of Alternative Nation-building than 120 Minutes, MTV's Sunday-night video showcase of non-mainstream acts. For nearly two decades, the program spanned musical eras from '80s college rock to '00s indie, with grunge, Britpop, punk, industrial, electronica and more in between. MAGNET raids the vaults to resurrect our 120 favorite [...]
Like perhaps the most famous of surf-rock innovators (Brian Wilson), Arthur C. Imperial does not surf. Rather, the sights and sounds of witnessing the act provide ample room for his musical talents to emerge. The Toronto-based Art Imperial depicts his swirling mixture of surf-rock and alternative aptly on the new Surf Suburban EP; a sky-blue [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Courtesy of Fatboy Slim "Right about now, the funk soul brother." For fans of big beat in the late '90s, it's a line that demanded a beeline to the dance floor. Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim , blew up in 1998 with 'You've Come a Long Way Baby,' an album that spawned hits like 'Praise You' and the aforementioned 'The Rockafeller Skank.' Cook played festival and club [...]

The alert reader might have noticed that one William von Saxe-Coburg und Gotha is going to marry his blushing bride Catherine on Friday. Perhaps young William is better known by his family's stage name Windsor, the name of one of the joints his family owns, chosen in order to distance the family from its German provenance during World War I. This blog likes a good wedding, and in the spirit of the nuptial celebration would like to offer Wilhelm and his Frau a few sincerely selected party tunes for the reception, to be played when the wedding band [...]
![[Pop/House] Martin Solveig feat. Kele – Ready 2 Go](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3370207_lg.jpg)
Who ever said the french and the english can't get along? "Ready 2 Go" is the second single by Martin Solveig for his upcoming album "SMASH". Featuring strong vocals from the lead singer of Bloc Party, Kele, "Ready 2 Go" is determined to do well. Its catchy beat, warm, uplifting vibe, surprisingly hard drops and simple chorus are perfect for the current April mood. With the success of his previous hit single "Hello", I wouldn't be surprised if remixes to this track start popping up soon. Martin Solveig feat. [...]

Sain vahepeal vanemaks, targemaks jälle vist mitte. The Housemartins - Happy Hour Tavapärane mõistatus: proovi aru saada, milline neljast housemartinist on Norman Cook ehk tulevane Fatboy Slim.

Despite the title (and the first song) there is very little ranting about the fucking Pope on this podcast, I promise. He may be a vicious, decaying old scorpion in charge of one of the most corrupt and evil institutions on Earth, but after a little bit of gentle joshing at the beginning I promise I do let it drop and carry on with the music. We have a fair bit of new stuff this week, such as Belle & Sebastian, Broken Records, Li'l Daggers and various other bits, and then a brief detour into Mrs. Toad and [...]

Paul Heaton takes a trip around an 'Acid Country' out on 13th September on Proper Records Paul Heaton releases his brand new single and album in September 2010 and will be touring the UK. "The Ladder's Bottom Rung" sees Heaton sing of 'The folk you learn to trust the most, Are the folk with hardly any' which is a celebration of honesty and morality set to a hook-laden classic pop tune. The [...]

Tomorrow marks the birthday of Norman Cook . Better known to most as Fatboy Slim , he was born Quentin Leo Cook in 1963 in Reigate, Surrey, England. There he began playing in bands, before becoming interested in deejaying and hip-hop culture while in Brighton to attend Brighton Polytechnic. Though he had hits as a member of The Housemartins , Beats International and Freak Power , he achieved his greatest success after adapting the Fatboy Slim moniker in 1996. While he hit the Top 40 with "Everybody Needs a 303," from his debut, [...]
Former Beautiful South and Housemartins singer Paul Heaton has announced an Irish Tour this October. He's due to release his second solo album Acid Country in September, and will be playing around the country to promote the record. However, he should also be playing some of the hits as well as the new stuff and [...]

Unless you've been living on the moon for the past few weeks you'll know that the World Cup is on. It is after all the single most watched sports event in on this planet of ours, with millions (billions if you believe FIFA) tuning in worldwide. You can't escape it at the moment. Not that i'm complaining, i love it. But it's everywhere. Every time you turn on the TV, every little advert that pops up online, every time you open the paper it's there staring back at you. To be fair that is the case with most World Cups [...]

Whoo it's hot, huh? And barely June. Despite my hopes at not having to make any of this year's covers myself, here we are with a patented B.Pearis Type-Over-Photo school of design. (The font, if you're curious is a Peter Saville original, created for the 1981 – Factus 8 – 1982 compilation EP.) I actually kind of like this one, though. The photo is from the Library of Congress' Flickr. It was taken at a square dance in Oklahoma around 1939. No one in this photograph was dancing to The Drums, The B-52's or Air Miami, but [...]

eve massacre – everybody had a deep shag [ mp3 ] Luscious Jackson VS The Clash VS Housemartins VS Maerz eve is back with a dreamy piece

The Lodger (previously on the Devil's blog The Lodger Is Staying & I Love You, You Pay My Rent ) have a new single, 'Have A Little Faith In People' , out now, a blast of old school Housemartins with added brass. The single heralds a new album, 'Flashback' which is out at the end of April. On 'Flashback' the usual Lodger reference points are all present and correct. The Housemartins ( Have A Little Faith In People ) tick. [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News In 1994, the Beautiful South had an unexpected hit in the U.K. with their greatest-hits compilation 'Carry on Up the Charts.' The title turned out to be eerily prescient as the album debuted at number one on the British charts and remains one of the most popular and best-selling records in U.K. history. But that was 1994 and the Beautiful South officially disbanded in 2007. And although he quietly launched a solo career since then, perhaps frontman Paul [...]
FEARNE AND PARIS HILTON (Thursday 22nd October, ITV2) Fearne Cotton lets all her inhibitions go and does a spot of pole dancing when she meets Paris Hilton for her new TV show. The bubbly presenter unleashed her wild side for her ITV2 show Fearne and..., which sees her following around famous women to find out what makes them tick. Wearing a short zebra print dress, the blonde giggles her way through the routine as Paris looks on in amusement. But leggy Fearne shows she's more than [...]
