When former Loud Loop Press contributor reviewed The Hudson Branch's 2009 release, Tightrope Walker , he couldn't get over how well the band knew their way around open-ended and spacious melodies. With their latest release, World Kid , the Chicago indie rock outfit once again offer up a warm and often comforting melodic that's even more tight and focused. World Kid opener "What Did I Eat" is carried along melancholy piano work that seemingly draws inspiration from the slow, meditative work of Sigur Ros, while the [...]

Though they come to us with just a teaser video, it may be all The Hudson Branch needs to get our appetites whet. Here we see a plethora of musicians, playing unique instruments like harp, violin, xylophone, ukelele, paired with guitar, multiple drum kits and sensitive vocal harmonies. The lighting in the video is just right, setting an ambient mood that surely compliments the song's arrangement. We feel warm and meditative as this song's energy, while subtle, taps on our ear drums. Hear for yourself. The Hudson Branch - "Tread Trample Tremble Trampoline" (Acoustic)

The first weekend of 2012 does not disappoint. There's plenty of happenings to take in as you enjoy this RIDIC weather. We're talking Secret Colours , Tiger Bones , The Gorilla Press and more! Dig it... FRIDAY THE CELL PHONES In case you hadn't heard, late last month I named The Cell Phones's Hospital Spaceship [...]
Do you ever get nostalgic for those music videos where a band chronicles hard-living and loving on the road? Well, snappy pop rockers Pet Lions don't go all " Every Rose Has its Thorn " on us, but they do take us on a fun romp across various hotel rooms, desolate highway views with endless bales of hay and - oh yeah - some rock and roll, on its latest single "Trinidad." It makes you want to pack a bag, cram yourself and some friends into a tiny vehicle and somehow take a trip [...]
Three I-just-relearned-how-much-I-ki nd-of-loved-and-still-shocking ly-do-love-old-Soundgarden reasons to explore your past kids and then head over to Schubas tonight... 1. Chicago's Island Of Misfit Toys are good. Don't believe me? Well, believe me. Please. Don't get all bent out of shape that an 18-year-old is pumping out some pretty mature indie pop. hat 18-year-old in question, one Anthony Sanders, sounds like a guy that has lived longer and absorbed musical influences at some sort of freakish rate. Go to their Soundcloud page for proof [...]
I'm assuming that if you read this site you're relatively familiar with Kickstarter . For those that don't know what I'm talking about, Kickstarter is an online platform that helps people raise money for creative ideas. It's used by individuals across the creative spectrum, though I've been exposed to it mainly because we get about 20 emails every week about one musical Kickstarter or another. Instead of writing about each one we like individually, I thought it could be fun to make a habit out of searching through [...]
Here's a sweet video of Crystal Lake's melodic indie-rockers The Hudson Branch covering "Dreams" by the Cranberries from their January 30 homecoming show at the Metro . The footage, shot by Ben Scarbro, was posted to the band's Facebook page late last night. The Hudson Branch's Metro show was the last of their current tour, but in the meantime, check out our review of their latest effort Tightrope Walker .
Ailment: Whiny, Argumentative, Short-Tempered, Ill-Humored Tart Duration: Too Fucking Long Cause: Too Involved To Go Into Cure: Two Wonderful Shows by Talented and Lovely Bands, ( well and some very helpful conversations with adored friends - you know who you are ) Details: I had a feeling it would be the case, and sure enough, I really needed a double dose of some kick-ass, good-energy music in a small venue where people just fucking enjoyed the music and weren't there to be seen or drink tequila shots off scantily-clad women in pirate outfits. I got [...]
