Photos by G. 2011 was a better than normal year for good tunes. In no particular order, here's a list of 21 songs that made my world a lot groovier. I don't think that all of the tracks were released as singles, and if they were, many of these gems were probably not played in a mainstream way (like the radio). That's sad, especially when over-produced pop songs that sound good on ONE LISTEN ONLY are played ad nauseum to the masses while they open their mouths wide for something to suck on. [...]
Originally penned under one of the band's previous names, Being boiled eventually morphed into what we have here, and was on the band's original mixtape sent out! I'm a huge fan of these early dark n' schleazy synth trax, those warm analog pads get me every time! The note changes in this reallllly realllly remind me of Visage's classic 'Fade to grey', to the point i'm sure someone somewhere has done some kinda mash up. DOWNLOAD

I met the group after their show at New York's Best Buy Theater on September 23, 2011. They were all so cool. It was surprising to me how many fans were hanging out trying to meet the group. Story time: At the beginning of the '80s, synthesizer technology advanced in such a way that small, monophonic synthesizers suddenly became affordable for the general public, and the synth went from an elite tool only rock stars could afford to an everyman's axe. Legions of young bands, like Depeche Mode , The Human League , OMD , et al, who might otherwise have gone down the punk-rock road, picked up on the electronic revolution and became synth-poppers instead, and the rest is history. Now it looks like Pioneer may have done something similar for the DJ world [...]

Video: "Night People" Live by Human League
HD Video by G. For those that are stuck in the 1980s and think that Human League stopped making music after their worldwide smash hits "Don't You Want Me," "(Keep Feeling) Fascination" and "Human," I've got news for you! Human League have never stopped and their latest album "Credo" was released in 2011. One of my favorite songs from the record is "Night People." I saw Human League perform the song at the Best Buy Theater in New York on September 23, 2011. It looked and sounded just like this... There is a place... that only... [...]

Philip Oakey of The Human League: Here Comes The Mirror Man
When Philip Oakey formed the Human League in 1977, with his Sheffield, England art school mates Martyn Ware and Ian Marsh, the art collective/theater group/band that the band started as were dedicated to the idea of creating detached electronic music using only synthesizers. It wasn't long though before a difference of opinion on the band's musical direction led to Ware and Marsh's departure to start Heaven 17 in 1980, and the reconfiguration found Oakey taking the group toward a more pop sound and adding a pair of female singers Susan Ann Sully and Joanne Catharell, creating the Human League's [...]
Sunday Slaylist: Frank Delgado's Deftones tourbus playlist
Poor old Frank Delgado - so often the forgotten member of Deftones. Although he's a member of the band, the fact that he wasn't "officially" a member till White Pony means that some (foolish) people out there (wrongly) regard him as a "secondary" member of Deftones. Well, this week we're going to do our bit to [...]
