Today is damp and misty. It is supposed to rain later this afternoon and tomorrow. My landscaper is weeding my garden right now and getting it ready for plants. I'll be buying them on Wednesday and also the herbs and flowers for my deck planters. Today I have a long list of places I need to go but they're all within a mile of each other so I don't have any complaints. I filled all the bird feeders and the bird baths yesterday. I also put out a new oriole feeder for grape jelly, but I don't know [...]

This is from her Creature Dreams release off label BRAINFEEDER whos artists are no doubt at the forfront of pushing Hip Hop production forward. Love them to bits. Also featuring the gorgeous vocals of Gavin Turek. Check previous posts on TOKiMONSTA - especially her Attention Deficit release . TOKiMONSTA: Website • Twitter • Facebook Gavin Turek: [...]
The Hummingbirds from Liverpool were at the Dry Dock in Leeds last night, where they performed this version of their new song 'Tonight'. The tune will appear on the band's 'Doesn't Really Matter' EP. Listening to this, my heart is singing: god, what gorgeous harmonies. In case you missed it, I wrote a bit on them (okay, a lot - sorry, I happen to like them quite a bit!) in a Bands to Watch feature last month, which you can read here. Click here [...]
My mind is filled with the bits and pieces of my musical upbringing; there are plenty of memories of the first band I ever fell in love with, the Beatles. (Sorry if this was predictable. I've been told that because I'm American, it's predictable.) They were the first band I was ever obsessed with: our public television station ran a documentary on them called The Compleat Beatles narrated by Malcolm McDowell, and I watched it so many times, I could quote all the narration word for word from memory and had mastered the Scouse accent, though it [...]

Alex Clare reminds me of a mix between Maroon 52s lead singer and Bill Withers - soulful, but just enough rough indie emo to justify the lyrics. Funny thing is, the cover of "Damn Your Eyes" he just sent us has nothing to do with late nineties, but, rather, a cover of Etta James' classic. Yes, Etta "1930s" James. Compare it to the original and see which one you prefer. (She has an eerily similar voice, btw. The eighties sheen on her track is almost too-perfect, btw.) Alex Clare - Damn Your [...]
[ download ] [tweetmeme] Imaginary Cities is a male/female duo who hail from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Their debut full-length, Temporary Resident , which includes "Hummingbird," made the long-list for Canada's prestigious Polaris Prize. Hidden Pony released Temporary Resident in March of 2011. "Hummingbird" offers up a mix of propulsive rhythms, fleshed-out hooks, and touch of drama. Centering on Marti Sarbit's strong vocals, the track blends an off-kilter warble (think Kristin Hersh) and melodic accessibility that's reminiscent of recently [...]
I probably have to apologize to Imaginary Cities for not really turning my attention to them until now, especially considering the year they've been having. The project of Winnipeg locals Rusty Matyas (ex-Waking Eyes) and Marti Sarbit (ex-The Solutions) has been making some significant waves throughout Canada, including having their debut Temporary Resident LP land a space on this year's Polaris Prize long list, and having The Pixies lend the opening set to them on their most recent North American tour. And after a successful stint at last week's Winnipeg Folk Festival , it's clear [...]

Canadian duo Imaginary Cities is made up of Rusty Matyas and Marti Sarbit. This duo is a unique blend, Matyas is a producer and multi-instrumentalist, while Sarbit used to be in a Motown cover band. They few songs we've heard from them has grabbed us, and we can't wait to see what these guys sound like live. If your in the NYC area, Imaginary Cities will be at the Knitting Factory on June 14 and Pianos on June 15. Imaginary Cities - Hummingbird

![[Introducing] – Vermilion Club](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3443553_lg.jpg)
Tweet The cover art of "Home", the debut album from Binghampton University duo Vermilion Club, might have you geared up for a dreary experience. Fear not: those worries are dispelled the moment the music starts. "Daylight" kicks in with a snappy, upbeat guitar line and vocals delivered with childlike enthusiasm that doesn't fade at all across the album's 11 tracks. This isn't childish music though. Vermilion Club are adventurous and their instrumentation can get pretty complex, with an array of strings, Local Natives [...]

Toronto - I've been listening to Imaginary Cities pretty consistently since seeing their showcase at Canadian Music Week way back in March. Their debut record Temporary Resident has been making some waves in Canada and the duo of Marti Sarbit and Rusty Matyas have been riding a wave of momentum lately, including a much sought after opening slot for the Pixies' Doolittle tour in the spring. This track, titled Hummingbird is just an amazing pop song, it's catchy, uplifting and when you first listen to it, it sounds like something familiar but [...]

Vermilion Club consists of two friends from Binghampton University. I don't have any other information, but sometimes it's better that way. The music reminds me a lot of Sufjan Stevens - part indie pop, part folk, and part orchestra. The vocals are gentle, but the melodies are strong enough to hold them up. On first listen, this album blew me away. Listen to a couple of tracks below and if you like what you hear, download their album Home under that. Vermilion Club - "Hummingbirds" [...]
A fairly new Canadian duo who just released their debut album and is about to go on tour with The Pixies churns out one seriously catchy tune.
