In Huntington, Pixies finally made their way to Long Island. As part of their "Lost Cities" tour, Pixies were playing in some unexpected places, which included a stop in New Jersey at The Wellmont Theatre. As Pixies unveiled Doolittle to the crowd it was obvious that Pixies tapped a primal rock chord that still connects [...]

As we look forward to festival season, one of the pleasant surprises will surely be the return of the complete original lineup of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones . The band of virtuosos will hit it hard this summer with almost 50 performances lined up between now and November, so it shouldn't be too tough to catch them in your neck of the woods. To gear up for the return, we look to the high school students at Huntington Beach Academy for the Arts and their unique performance of Bela's fan favorite, New South Africa. [...]

Photography by Lauren Everett Nick Waterhouse and the Turn-Keys "Some Place" (from "Some Place" 73 out now on Pres ) Nick Waterhouse makes vintage R&B records like Dam-Funk makes funk records and he does it on his own label PRES Records Co. with the help of the Tarots, the Naturelles, and Mike McHugh's Distillery in Costa Mesa. He speaks now from a curb outside of the Black Boar in Eagle Rock after a long day of recording and right before DJing a set of [...]
Another big blast from the past. My wife originally put "Sappy Song" and a whole bunch of other pop punk songs on a mixtape for me but I have no idea what ever happened to it. I was actually looking through boxes in our garage for it just last week and all I found were some Humdingers tapes. I also included "Bakersong" since I like it and since Mickey is such a good dude. Hopefully anyone following the NCAA tournament and doing any March Madness Sports Betting didn't put money on my Illini last weekend [...]
Eddy Huntington - USSR Found this 1986 gem "USSR" by 802s English pop-star Eddy Huntington late last night. It's pure infection synth pop to it's fullest with swilled keyboards accompanied by alpha male chest beating 'ohh's." According to Wikipedia "USSR" was released throughout Europe in 1986 on ZYX Records and became a hit in mainland Europe and in [...]
Less than 10 days until the big holiday is here and then gone. Is all your shopping done? Are all your Christmas cookies made? Don't worry, we're not close to being ready either. Despite all the preparations this year, it just sorta snuck up on us. It's the routine that we all get stuck in. Sometimes you just gotta rock out to some killer Christmas music. Listen to the songs below or to the songs from Day 1 , Day 2 , Day 3 , Day 4 , Day 5 , Day 6 [...]

:: Andrew W.K. , Les Savy Fav 's well-dressed Tim Harrington and DMC (of Run DMC , duh) helped give the last Brooklyn Pool Party a good send off. So now I can say for sure that there's no pool party tonight . Those crazy Huntingtons are more suddenly more relevant than ever. :: Melvins had fun at the Minnesota State Fair . Not sure if Buzzo had any doughnut burgers or chocolate covered bacon. :: Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top might [...]
Ever since they rose from the dark streets of New York's Bowery via Queens, the Ramones have been worshiped by punks and pop fans alike. And rightly so. The faux brothers - make that bruddahs - invented a completely new sound, blending outsider angst with bubblegum pop, for a hybrid style that's still popular today. Though it took a decade for bands to begin aping the Ramones directly, the style the quartet invented went on to become a full-fledged punk rock sub-genre: Ramones-core. Here's a look at some of its best proponents: Chixdiggit! [...]

West Virginian singer-songwriter Jeff Ellis has returned home from his second US Army tour of duty in Iraq. I'm happy to have the opportunity to give away 1 copy of his magnificent CD The Forgetting Place (click the album title to read my rave review). Jeff will also be performing live at several local venues. Tour dates and giveaway details are below... The Prize: 1 copy of Jeff Ellis' new CD The Forgetting Place [...]

The Forgetting Place is the upcoming fourth album by Jeff Ellis, an incredibly talented local singer-songwriter from Huntington, West Virginia. I didn't doubt that any album released by Mountain Stage 's NewSong Recordings would be good, but I was still surprised at the high quality of these songs. Ellis was the winner of Mountain Stage's 2008 NewSong Contest. He is currently serving a thirteen-month deployment in Iraq, but his true calling is obviously music. The Forgetting Place will be released by NewSong Recordings on March 23rd. [...]
Huntingtons have posted a newly recorded Christmas song. The pop-punk outfit explained: Alright, everybody, it's almost Christmas and to celebrate, we're giving away a brand new song we've just finished recording. It's called "All I Want For Christmas (Is You)". We suggest adding it to your digital music player as a bonus track to our most recent release, Punk Sounds. Download the song in MP3 or lossless FLAC format. The band reunited for a show and also released a new record, [...]
On the seventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me, seven swans a-swimming... and a whole bunch of Christmas MP3's. I mean, who can resist Christmas songs by the artists below? If I had anything else witty or clever to write I would do so right here, but I don't so this is what you're getting. Do the Bears suck this year or what? MP3: Descendents - Christmas Vacation Mighty Mighty Bosstones - This Time Of Year Bad Religion - Joy [...]
