This band slipped me by last year and from the looks of it the same thing happened to many online dwellers. They are the Idaho Falls (based in L.A., makes sense) and they issued their third album 'Sparks' to a beautiful silence, not a gobsmacked one, more a there are bigger fish to fry one. Pity really because songs like 'Cloudy Day' really are effortlessly pretty. Still the band, made up of Leslie, Raymond and several other high profile extras, remain unsigned and notice of their whereabouts requires a level of net sleuthing that I'm just not up to today. [...]

A few years back, my wife and I went to see The Mother Hips at The Double Door. While my obsession for the Hips is well-documented (I had Tim and Greg autograph my man-boobs at our day party this year), my wife had not never heard of The Hips before. After a few songs, she turned to me and says, "I'm guessing these guys are from California?" The Idaho Falls illicit that same reaction. Their album is a breezy combo of Cali pop with elements of twang and remind me of a band from a few years back [...]
Earlier this year L.A.'s Idaho Falls quietly released The Spark. For those paying attention it marked one of the strongest entries in contemporary canyon rock since the Broken West's 2007 debut. Languid and coastal, the LP invokes sepia Topanga dreams, the Pacific, late nights and mornings after. I'll be airing the session (below) during the [...]

Raymond Richards has been producing music out of his Red Rockets Glare studio in West LA for years. He's anchored recordings for LA bands including Local Natives, The Broken West, Ferraby Lionheart and others. On January 26, Richards returns with third album as The Idaho Falls , titled The Spark . Richards was joined by a cast of LA musicians including Angela Correa and Rob Poynter from Correatown, Brian Whelan from Broken West, Alex Silverman from Alex & Sam, Wendy Wang from The Sweet Hurt and longtime Idaho Falls guitarist Kevin Feyen and drummer [...]

Raymond Richards has been something of a two-headed beast the past few years, his burgeoning duties as an up-and-coming producer at his humble garage studio forcing his singer-songwriter side to the back burner. But now Richards (whose Red Rockets Glare Studio has birthed albums by Local Natives , the Broken West and Ferraby Lionheart , among others) has kick-started his own band, the Idaho Falls . And the man who wears two hats has fashioned a beautiful triptych of an album. "The Spark," the Idaho Falls' third full-length and first in [...]

Off The Record is a recurring feature here on the Drunkard that marries two of my greatest interests; music and travel. Having a locals perspective when visiting a new locale is the difference between experiencing it through the lens of a tourist and of that of a native. Off The Record gathers some of my [...]

While it may be January, I've been out driving around with the top down already! Sixty-two degrees here in Atlanta today, and while I'm certain it won't last, it's nice to have the sun on my face and the wind in my hair again. To think that just last week, we were having a snow day- hello global warming! Tracklisting: Daphne Willis - What To Say Emma Pollock - Hug The Harbour [...]

If you are a fan of Americana or roots-rock or folk-punk or just music in general, you better be reading Songs:Illinois. The morning Craig wrote about Idaho Falls, I got an email from their PR people. Sounds like serendipity. And the band sounds like Cali-psychedelic-twang-rock. And Craig's endorsement is good enough for me. Listen: Idaho Falls ∞ Blood In The Wine Idaho Falls ∞ Cloudy Day

No one (except Rawkblog ) is writing about the new Idaho Falls record. I don't know if that will change in the next couple of days with a press release announcing the new album or if there will be a sudden change of heart wherein music bloggers start to look outside of their email inboxes and P4k's "forkcast" for music recommendations. Either way this is a record that should be heard. First off I (and others) have miscast this band as some sort of modern day Gram Parsons with a [...]
As we all know, The Bordello used to be Little Pedro's, but not much has been said about its scandalous past as a real brothel and a one-time meeting place for bad cops and mobsters to cut deals (according to one old-timer we once chatted up at the bar). A quick search on Wikipedia and Yahoo! Answers didn't turn up much about the club but, no matter, The Bordello still makes for a perfect site

Sad news, folks. With their May-June issue, No Depression is calling it quits (at least for print). Considering the state of both music and print media industries in this digital age, I guess it shouldn't really be as surprising as it feels. I thought No Depression would've lasted longer than other music mags, though, since they're a niche mag that served so well a niche that seemed more likely than others to contribute financially to the music industry. If you know what I mean. Though they covered a niche market, No [...]
It's the bottle sound from "pet sounds". Perfect. It's 2007. It's a lloyd cole on steroids in fresno. A good man on weekdays. It's california/californication, sue me red (not) chili pepper copies! I don't know much about the men in this group, except that the rumour says that they have members with connections to Hope Sandoval and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and that was enough to get a little extra of my attention after listening through their music. The Idaho Falls (Their name was taken from the town with the same name [...]
