Frank Yang Though his punk credentials are beyond reproach thans to his tenure in Propagandhi , John K. Samson has always cut a bit of a curious figure in front of The Weakerthans . While his bandmates are more than willing and able to play the part of rockers in turning out muscular guitar riffs and solos, Samson by comparison has always been a bit slight of stature, reedy of voice, sheepish of grin; the thoughtful and verbose folksinger who somehow ended up fronting a rock band. I don't know if the [...]

Positive song - Th' Inbred I love this song. I love that it decries and cynically parodies boy scout hardcore - its myopia, its ineffectuality, its self-serving - yet is one of the best positive youth hardcore, pump-your-fist-point-your-fing er-and-say-"go" songs ever written. The split between enjoying so much this music yet wanting something a little more substantial than a soundtrack for good looking, good boy, good intentioned, good neighbourhood good times has been filled. It feels wrong to have this as maybe my favourite song [...]

Quadruple O.G. Kush Comments: Quadruple?! Yep. his batch came once again from British Columbia, Canada. Making way to me in a sealed jar, I wasn't taken immediately by the smell, but the looks of this genetic thug made me look more than twice... Slight (but fairly dark) bits of purple creep through the deep greens and oranges, the whole sample was made up of good sized (2g+) buds, and was expertly trimmed. Once cracking open a nugget I was pleasantly surprised at the familiar "kush kick" and some very heavy skunky funk. Forgive [...]
Billy Redden (born 1956 in Rabun County, Georgia) is an American actor best known for his role as Lonnie —the " creepy banjo kid "— in the 1972 movie Deliverance . Redden, then sixteen, earned his role in Deliverance during a casting call at Clayton Elementary School in Clayton, Georgia. To add authenticity and humor to the film, the filmmakers found Redden to fit the look of the inbred and mentally retarded banjo boy called for by the book, although Redden himself is neither. The [...]

So another HPX has come and gone, and once again our fair city held it down. The sets we caught were fantastic and as diverse as some of the venues that housed them. I mean, it's hard to believe you could see Propsector's Union, I See Rowboats and Retribution Gospel Choir in a church, and then jump ship to see the GZA rip at The Marquee on the same night, but such was the embarrassment of riches HPX had to offer. Anyway, here are ten things we learned this year at HPX: [...]

Well, HPX is upon us, and the question must be asked: are you ready to rocksteady? Or something to that effect. Schedule? Check . Herohill's recommendations? Check . Case of Redbull or those pills that truckers take to avoid falling asleep and plowing into an Irving Bigstop at 3am? Check. Link to obligatory MC Hammer video? Check . All right then, be safe out there and enjoy all of this: A History Of, A Sight for Sewn Eyes, A/V, Above All Else, Al [...]

HPX '08 has drawn a copious amount of talent . I mean, if you had told me acts like The Inbreds, Retribution Gospel Choir, Josh Ritter and the GZA would be in town and I'd still be undecided as to whether or not I'd be going to see them, well I would have been shocked. In all honesty, with all the bands and all the venues, it's hard to go wrong, but to help you undecideds Shane and I are going to get all mavericky, ruffle some feathers, pay attention to Main Street, not Wall Street [...]

myspace :: buy from zunior HH:: It's been ten years since The Inbreds graced Halifax with your presence. What have you been up to, and what made you decide to reunite one more time? DU:: Well, you made us reunite. Hero Hill asked and we must deliver. Since we packed up in 1998, I got married, moved to Toronto, started working in IT, bought a house, had two kids, and started Zunior. Zunior was actually a domain name I registered to create a [...]
Not to quote Anchorman, but we are feeling like we are kind of a big deal right now. With some terrific support from the people involved with the Halifax Pop Explosion , herohill and iheartmusic are putting together a two day showcase and the headline act of Day 2 is none other than The f*cking Inbreds . Sure, we are old as dirt, so we actually remember seeing the Inbreds back in the day, but seriously. Mike and Dave were part of the scene that converted us from rap lovin white kids to rap [...]

This is defiantly the Friedbergers best effort ....and I always hear something [...]

Last month I briefly talked about the band The Inbreds . Now for those of you who don`t know The Inbreds ..I`ll quickly cut and paste this paragraph from Wikipedia to keep you up to speed = The Inbreds were a Canadian indie rock band formed in 1992. The band consisted of singer-songwriters Mike O'Neill and Dave Ullrich. O'Neill played bass and Ullrich played drums. Following their 1998 album Winning Hearts, the band parted ways. Which brings us to the album Hilario , their [...]

Like I`ve mentioned on here a million times before, I was a huge fan of almost every album that was released by Murderecords during the 90`s...Some of those great bands include Sloan, Superfriendz, Local Rabbits, The Inbreds, Hardship Post, Al Tuck, Thrush Hermit , Etc...."After coming to the sad realization that the label wasn't the least bit profitable, the roster was stripped bare, and currently releases Sloan albums exclusively." (Wiki)..Most of the bands have broken up or moved on to other projects, but a few came up on a recent Rheostatics tribute album... [...]
Well today is the big day. The final Rheostatics show tonight at Massey Hall. A few more interesting stuff has popped up around the internet. Over at radio free canuckistan, the last two installments are up of the excerpts from Have Not Been The Same. Also there are interviews with Dave Bidini from the end of last year, which I mentioned before but not as much as I thought I had. Anyways they're definitely worth looking at go into the ending of the band. All the links below -Have [...]
