Spin Magazine li ha definiti : The musical pastiche of The Inner Banks is an exercise in euphony, with each disparate sound complementing the piece as a whole. Epics from anthills, each track is grand in scope yet completely unassuming, a piece of a [...]

Partners and companions Caroline Schutz and David Gould make quite the team when they become The Inner Banks . They have made quite the mark for themselves as a duo and individually. For example, who can forget Caroline's haunting expose' of folk as front woman for the critically acclaimed Folk Songs For The Afterlife!? And there is David's finger-tip-blistering banjo playing for The Bootleg Remedy. But, it's their sense of togetherness that makes Songs From Disko Bay so enjoyable. For their sophomore release, it seems [...]

There are some bands I listen to more than others. One of the bands I've taken the time to really listen to are Inner Banks and their second album Songs from Disko Bay . When I first heard the album, I thought it sounded great, but it was a bit anonymous. Even so, I was convinced that there were something interesting about it, and I played it over and over again. I'm so glad I did, because I think it is one of the best album i've heard in a really long time! [...]

I'm just rolling in from Open House, that yearly celebration of the start of a new school year that keeps me at work for a fifteen-hour day. I stumbled into the parking lot, bleary-eyed and hoarse-throated, turned the key on the Dickmobile and had the sad thought that I have to be back in the same spot in nine hours. My Pops always breaks my balls in the summer, telling me that I only have a part time gig. In short, my ass. When I got home, I kissed a nearly slumbering Mrs. Citizen on the cheek and [...]

I got caught up in the fragrant passes of The Inner Banks album yesterday and even though it won't be out for another month, here we are. The Inner Banks are husband and wife Caroline Schutz and David Gould and their collaborators. Caroline and David began work on their second album, S ongs From Disko Bay , in 2006, while Caroline was on bed-rest, pregnant with twin girls. audio: pyramids http://www.myspace.com/theinne rbanks http://www.dagrecords.com

I'm told that the above is a factually based reenactment of an actual discussion with Doug Morris from Universal... the poor guy is so clueless he doesn't even understand what EAR FARM's Free Music Fridays are all about. Awww. But you do, don't you? That's right, we're back again with another selection of songs and compilations that have come our way in the past week - all free, all legal. Some are EAR FARM favorites, some might be more your bag than ours, all are free for you to enjoy... just click the band name for the [...]

Part 2 of 2 contains songs from three of my favorite albums of the year so far- Dinosaur Jr , Of Montreal , and Cloud Cult -but I don't think it's as cohesive a compilation as the first one . That having been said, I'm more than satisfied enough to part with it. Dinosaur Jr: "Almost Ready" [MP3] Page France: "The Ruby Ring Man" [MP3] Shapes And Sizes: "Alone/Alive" [MP3] The Inner Banks: "Buried West" [MP3] The Rosebuds: "My Punishment [...]

Either there's not much new stuff out there at the moment, holidays have already kicked in or everyone's too busy trying to get their "best ofs" out first to avoid looking pretentious (not us folks, we're too lazy for that). Whatever the reason, most of today's selection is a random sample of, well, everything, in a narrow, indie kind of sense. In other news Techcrunch has an update on the Allofmp3 situation. It seems that the bandwagon is now rolling downhill with unstoppable speed. Update that back catalogue while [...]
In the first of our "New Favorite Band" posts last week, we gushed about Brooklyn-based chamber collective The Inner Banks based entirely on the strength of the song "Anthem" and our love of Caroline Shultz's last project, Folksongs For The Afterlife . Days later, we've obtained a copy of their eponymous full length and have mulled it over considerably to answer the question at hand: Do we hate them? Was any of what we said about "Anthem" indicative of what we could expect from the other six songs, or would The [...]

We're going to gush about a song, and it's probably not going to be coherent, and it's probably going to be completely out of context because we haven't heard the entire album yet, but please bear with us: Holy Christ, the song "Anthem" by The Inner Banks (ex-Folksongs For The Afterlife) is amazing. This is Sufjan, but with hooks; This is the perfect hypothetical combination of George Harrison-sitar riffing (if he were playing banjo), Neil Young's "Old Man," and the last Air album. This is otherworldly chamber music, but we don't feel as though [...]
