And I've actually found some pretty nice gems mixed in with the songs that have been clogging the blogs as of late. Songs like Kristoffer Ranstam's [...]

On a hot tip from People With Animal Heads (whose blog, coincidently, doesn't seem to be working right now), I've been checking out this new band from Chicago, The Interiors. On the surface, they play straight up alt-rock, modern rock, college rock, indie rock, or whatever it is the kids call it these days. However, once you pay closer attention, you'll find much greater depth in their music. In particular, if you focus on the rhythm section, you'll notice not only are they quite capable with your standard rock beats, but they are equally adept [...]

The Interiors With all of the hype surrounding the hip hop scene here in Chicago, it easy forget that Chicago also has a thriving and ever-growing underground rock scene. With bands kicking around The Hideout and Schubas and The Empty Bottle week in and week out, they come to understand and almost lash out against the Chicago experience. They might feel the need to reach out and hit the road. There they can form new relationships and find new fans. It's while on tour that they polish their stage presence and discover new and varied song [...]

Je traîne sur une douzaine de sites de news musicales plus quelques dizaines de flux RSS mais aucune ne m'avait consenti à filtrer l'information selon laquelle le nouvel album de The Dandy Warhols , …Earth to the Dandy Warhols… était déjà en vente au format électronique depuis plusieurs semaines. Le format physique devrait être disponible au mois d'août sachant que l'intégralité des 13 pistes est en écoute complète pour se faire une idée du prochain coup de massue du groupe américain. J'en profite [...]

A new project we are working on is called "Interiors". Each episode will feature a band playing music to a group of fans at various homes throughout the city. For this premier episode we have The Annuals playing an intimate show in a 1930's home to a small group of fans. This is our preview of things to come... I wrote about The Interiors nearly two years ago, but things have changed since then, as well they should. Back in those days, they only had a three-song demo, but what a demo it was! Songs like The Bug and I'm So Happy blew my mind in the greatest of ways. As for the present, their self-titled debut will be released in a mere ten days on 54-40 or Fight (who released a great Pseudosix album, among others). As I am with every band that starts with a demo and [...]
The Interiors is a three piece band out of the closest big city to me, Chicago. I was unsure what to expect when I started listening to the eponymous debut, which will be released in June of this year, but I was quickly caught up in the album and quite taken with their sound. At times they sway close to a musical style reminiscent of The Strokes mixed with The Dodos and at other times I feel they're part of the leading edge in modern rock. That they're part of the paradigm changing set {akin to the genre [...]
Let me make it simple. The Interiors are a guitar rock band. They are from Chicago. They are awesome. Their new self-titled album is due out in June. That is all. Well, just in case you wanted more to read as you listen to the songs below, here's a little extra. The Interiors' singer/guitarist Chase Duncan lost part of his left index fingertip in a freak accident the day after the band signed on with the 54-40 Or Fight record label, but has since recovered. And thankfully, since [...]

Way back in 2006, Chicago's The Interiors sent me a copy of their demo. After that, they sort of vanished. Flash forward to 2008 and I receive another message from the band. This one states: "Don't know if you remember, but we sent a demo CD some time back, I think over 18 months ago! Quite a bit's happened since then. The good news is that we signed with 54-40 or Fight, a good mid sized label. The bad news is that our guitar player Chase was in a freak accident which ended [...]

Just to jolly ol' Utah. Provo, UT to be exact. Going for a few weeks to visit some friends and family. But don't worry, I will still be here daily (or try to be anyway). I need a nice little vaca from the city, and I figured a mountain town of sorts sounds pretty cool at the moment. Not to mention Provo's great music scene. It should be a fun trip. Anyway, I almost forgot the whole point of this post. I wanted to introduce you to The Interiors , an [...]

I suppose this could be a super-short mixtape of sorts. More accurately, it's five tunes I've been listening to a lot over the last week, that I think fit together pretty well. 1. The Interiors - A Crooked Line [ previous post ] 2. Vampire Weekend - A-Punk It has been brought to my attention by a friend that, because I have yet to mention the VW album in 2008, it looks like I'm giving the band the shaft now that they've exploded and everyone's talking about [...]

Songs That Might Otherwise Pass You By The Interiors, "Power Lines" (Thanks to Fingertips for the link) Okay, so I have no idea what this frikkin' song is about. "Power Lines" has some of the oddest lyrics I've heard in the last few months--at one point he says he demands respect from the dial tone. Well, I suppose we all want respect from the phone company (in my case it's the cable company
