At their gig this past Sunday at London's Royal Albert Hall, touring mates Feist and M. Ward covered The Jesus and Mary Chain's duet with Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval entitled "Sometimes Always". The track (originally found on the recently-reissued Stoned & Dethroned ) is transformed into a sweet and strummy sing-along from the most twee summer camp ever. SXSW has come and gone. Once again, we have survived. The Panic Manual crew even did a road trip through New Orleans to Memphis after the fact to prove it. Nevertheless, it'll be another twelve months til we hit up Austin again and so for now, we can only relive these memories. In this engaging round-table discussion, we discussed some of our favorite things about SXSW. Favorite SXSW Moment? Paul : There were a few ... Let's not kid ourselves, you are here because you are interested how the reunited Jesus and Mary Chain were at SXSW. This legendary band needs no introduction, but of you do want some, here is a site that'll help explain why many sxsw goers were willing to sacrifice their entire Thursday night at SXSW to see this group. For me, the Jesus and Mary Chain show was the centerpiece upon which I built my SXSW schedule around. so let's answer some questions: What Did They Play? [...]

Our Friday Flashback track for this week is from The Jesus And Mary Chain. The track, You Trip Me Up. The video, rad. Have fun getting the sand out of your leather trousers. P.S. Can you tell we're a wee bit cranked about not being at SXSW?

Welcome to our report on on South By Southwest from Austin, TX, where sleep is nominal and foot pain is exponential. We're giving you the run on bands we really enjoyed every day this week, so check out our blurbs and pictures below for coverage of Thursday at SXSW, including pictures from Bruce Springsteen's keynote speech and his special performance at ACL's The Moody Theater. One of the more hotly attended shows at South by Southwest last night was a midnight set from Scottish noise-pop cult favorites, The Jesus and Mary Chain . They played for just under 90 minutes at The Belmont, an outdoor club in the downtown of Austin, and clusters of fans could be spotted watching the show, guerrilla-style, from the roof of the building next door. The setlist, which touches on all the group's full-length albums, is below, and you can check out a photo slideshow above. Snakedriver Head On Far Gone and Out Between [...]

You never knew with the Jesus and Mary Chain , right? The brooding Scottish fuzzmeisters could be sloppy and quarrelsome, or they could be cocksure and compelling. On Thursday night at the Belmont for Paste magazine's SXSW showcase, the quintet helmed by brothers Jim and William Reid tended toward the latter. The biggest calamity to befall JAMC — playing their first North American gig since 2008 — came when an almost-naked youth (wearing only black bikini briefs) jumped onstage midway through the hour-long performance. A stagehand summarily hurled him back into the crowd. "Who [...]

The band returns to the U.S. in September.
The Jesus and Mary Chain rescheduled their Denton appearance to this evening , and we thought it'd be fun to dig through the old, dusty filing cabinets in pursuit of old press photos. To our ex... Continue reading "The Jesus and Mary Chain Via 10 Years of Press Photos " >
The South by Southwest madness has already started here in Austin with the Film and Interactive festivals and SXSW Music officially starts on Wednesday. From various sources I have compiled a list of 59 Scottish gigs over the next few days. My head is already spinning. Some caveats on this list. First of all, day [...]
The VPME As part of BBC 6 Music's 10th Anniversary we were delighted to be invited back on Tom Robinson's "Now Playing" show. Our remit was simple, to take over the playlist for half an hour and chose four of our hottest new tracks plus two "6 Music" style classics, whilst providing a commentary via twitter Below is the audio from the show followed by the text of our tweets . As previously reported, The Jesus and Mary Chain hit the U.S. this week for their first U.S. shows in over four years. However, as Slicing Up Eyeballs points out, visa problems have forced the band to reschedule two of their four upcoming date. Originally set for Saturday night, JMC's performance at Texas' 35 Denton Festival will now take place Wednesday, March 14th, in the form of a free show at the North Texas State Fairgrounds (click here for more details). Consequently, their March 12th show in New Orleans has been rescheduled for September 5th. Check out [...]

Fans of Deerhunter / Atlas Sound frontman Bradford Cox were "treated" to something "special" during his stop at First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN a few nights ago: a one-hour endlessly-morphing rendition of "My Sharona " by The Knack . There are certain things an Atlas Sound fan expects when heading to a show, but I imagine 60 minutes of "My Sharona" falls somewhere between "an actual car-burning, window-smashing riot" and "David Lee Roth on vocals" on the list of expectations. (The only thing comparable is showing [...]

Sticking to your schedule at South by Southwest (SXSW) takes discipline and heaping portions of luck. You better swallow this pill now: You will not be able to see all of the bands you want to see, even if you are trying to be conservative with your schedule. Think about the fact that every year in Austin the crowds get bigger and bigger, yet the venues stay the same size. Clubs and bars will hit capacity faster than ever this year, so it's time you have some back up options, and some outlying parties to check out. [...]
