The John Steel Singers puts you VIP front row of their amazing magical mystery tour.
I'm all about counter programming. On rainy days, I like to play tracks that don't necessarily remind of me of gloomy times, but instead, tracks that remind me of how wonderful it is to be in the summer light. Enter the John Steel Singers . A six piece band from Australia, the land that is forever dry and rain free, the John Steel Singers sound pretty much what their band name would suggest - fun, joyous harmonic tracks with a sprinkle of horns. This track, called Overpass comes from their [...]
Official Website MySpace Facebook Twitter My 3rd CMJ Music Marathon was a blast. More so things I did around it which is stuff like attend tapings of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report (so awesome!) meeting tons of new people (you know who you are *winkyface*) and the very few bands I was excited to see. Not [...]

We're a little late to this one, but Australian band the John Steel Singers are best known for their '60s-flavored pop, falsettos, and sky-high harmonies. They recently released their debut album Tangalooma and it is a brilliant combination of indie rock meets dance-a-long pop, whilst maintaining their feel for unassumingly darker storylines. This has been their trademark on hits such as Overpass, Rainbow Kraut and The Masochist . Tangalooma showcases a real depth of songwriting and is as lasting and infectious as ever. Give them a try. Here's a few quick shots from the mailbag, starting with my favorite: Breaking Hearts from the Canadian indie rockers Rah Rah. It's their second album, and it's really tight indie rock. Parkade (NGHTBLND Remix) Video for "Parkade" John Steel Singers-Tangalooma. A debut album of bouncy pop-for fans of Wings or maybe Polyphonic Spree. i was living the life of a wrecking ball, swinging dangerously low at everything in sight ♫ The John Steel Singers - Rainbow Kraut Beware, this song contains rhythms and grooves that will infect your central shimmy cortex and cause involuntary limb movement that some would classify as chair dancing or shower shaking. The horns (the horns!) are especially dangerous. And awesome. Brisbane, Australia has a real gem of a band on their hands and thank goodness for the internet and its ability to share that magic across the globe. Although "Rainbow [...]

John Steel Singers had a remix comp. These guys are out of Brisbane and, as Jaydos puts it "Make acoustic shit". The winner of the remix comp was won by sydney 3 piece rock electronica band ' tales in space '. According to their Soundy, have had a steady stream of singles produced since 2009, receiving airplay on both FBI and Triple J. Check their remix below, and listen to more of their tunes on Soundy . The 'Ghost in the room' EP ain't half bad if you're into "Ambient Shit". [...]
It's not often you get sent a genuinely fun remix. Adelaide via Melbourne boys Cosmo Black seem to do that though. This hear (see what i did with the spelling there?) remix is of that slighty massive track Overpass by The John Steel Singers, a band that to be honest, I haven't gotten into as [...]
More lists aye? Well this is a fun Australian-wide radio voting system so it's a little different to the "top of 20103 round-up. Keeping in mind the "listenership" of Triple J, I usually vote with a little more thought as to what will already end up in the hottest 100 (rather than throwing my vote away on something obscure). This makes it easier to vote for only ten songs (the applied limit) in the sea of stuff I've been loving all year. Massive Attack - Paradise Circus Bag Raiders [...]

The John Steel Singers (JSS) have someone who likes to be called Trimmington in their band... need I go on? Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, they have had a long apprenticeship which is now starting to come into fruition. Forming in 2005, they released two EPs in 2008, The Beagle [...]

I know this is an oldy however, I think it's one of the Brissie lads best songs. If you haven't heard it yet and you've got their stellar debut album, ' Escapades ' (Buy it NOW!) it's because it's off their EP, 'Mega Mountain'. Hungry Kids will be playing as apart of Triple J's Ausmusic Month at the Hi Fi, West End on Wednesday night along side John Steel Singers and Ballpark Music !

The John Steel Singers are a band from Brisbane Australia who have been on the verge of a breakout year. There's more buzz around them today as they have uploaded a new single, "Overpass", to their FB page. They are opening for Tame Impala in October Down Under. Check out the new single on FB or down below if your prefer. The John Steel Singers - Overpass
The John Steel Singers I like this band. A lot! Because: 1. They're from Brisbane. A lot of good band comes from Brisbane (approximately 73% of Aussie bands mentioned in this blog! I haven't calculated!) 2. Group singing. 3. Psychedelic pop, piano, sunshine disco pop, 60's pop. Plus a whole lot more. 4. Three EP's [...]

The John Steel Singers - Rainbow Kraut This one is dedicated to the mostest fun (read: funest) chicks in Brissi: VanessAh & Monicajajaja. The John Steel Singers - hail from Brisfuknvegaz and rock out live, true story; that's official. This is their most played track on last.fm. So it must be at least alright huh? Wrong ! It's awesome and like Rocket Science meets Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Just like that. [...]

I wouldn't exactly call this Brisbane band a highlight on the Laneway bill, but after seeing them live recently, I can testify for their worthiness. The first time I saw them, they were a fun six-piece with a sit-down keyboardist (meh). Now they're a rockin' troubadour with some killer songs and great live energy. If only their album didn't come in a Jeans pocket.....hehe. Shame on you Levity. Rainbow Kraut | myspace |
