By now most folks know where I stand on the present sensitive folk movement. Mainly that I’m over it. So today I thought I would prove I'm capable of more than just bitching and post some bands I actually like. And no, none of them formed in the 90’s. In my latest search for bands [...] The post Songs I like: Ladies Night appeared first on Your Music Is Awful.com .

Daily life is full of signs and reminders to us of how much we are all influenced by the ways of the world and nature and how all these factors combine to make us both vulnerable and changeable. There is also music that calls to mind that very feeling and that is what this week’s playlist is dedicated to. Listen on and if you enjoy what you hear, seek out these bands further and support them in their pleasure-giving… The Joy [...]
Ya tenemos confirmado el cartel del Austin City Limits, así que la talacha de saber qué veremos en el Corona Capital es "más" fácil.
![[News] Y Not Festival Lineup](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4941615_lg.jpg)
You know what I enjoy even more than the UK's biggest festivals? The smaller ones. Last year I ventured back into my home county of Derbyshire to hit up Y Not festival , a homegrown, grass roots built from the ground up festival. Boy did I have a good time. The likes of The Wombats, We Are Scientists, Pulled Apart By Horses, Roots Manuva, Little Comets and a host more across numerous stages graced the fields. This year promises to be even bigger, and with the winning the best small festival award last year, they're going to [...]

I first heard Welsh alternative rock band The Joy Formidable back in 2008 and knew there was something special about them. "A Balloon Called Moaning" was constantly on repeat (It's a phenomenal album if you haven't checked it out). Their latest album "Wolf's Law" just came out this year and it's already becoming one of my favorites for the year. The Joy Formidable is coming to the National this Saturday, May 11. I have a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky reader. All you have to do is send an [...]

Graphics By Madeline Rosemurgy Not even a perpetual torrent of rain could extinguish the good vibes at the inaugural Shaky Knees Music Festival in Atlanta over the weekend. The first day of the two-day festival (Saturday) saw crowds build to around 8,000 by the end of the long, messy day, and by Sunday afternoon, the festival sold out. The 28 bands that played the festival were greeted by over 14,000 keyed up fans all within the confines of the shiny (not anymore), new Historic Old Fourth Ward Park and the adjoining Masquerade Music [...]

It appears Austin City Limits has begun to reveal some of this year's artists ahead of Tuesday's big lineup announcement . In years past, ACL has distributed lottery cards to merchants throughout downtown Austin that when scratched revealed the name of artists playing the festival. However, this year the festival has taken a new approach, utilizing beer koozies (!) and the classified section of The Austin Chronicle . On Thursday, four "ads" appeared in in The Austin Chronicle , each featuring not so subtle reference to four artists: fun., Grouplove, Shovels [...]

KEXP listeners will be psyched to see Alt-J , !!! , Tegan and Sara , Bob Mould , [...]

This weekend marks the inaugural run for Atlanta's brand new Shaky Knees Festival , and I'm stoked to be there to experience it! The two day festival will be held in a newly completed park next to a prominent Atlanta music venue, The Masquerade . The schedule and lineup is a bit light compared to other festival heavy-hitters ( Bonnaroo, Sasquatch, Hangout ), but for a first year festival, the lineup is pretty amazing. The schedule is 12-11 Saturday, May 4, and 12-10 Sunday, May 5. Nearly every act scheduled to [...]

The Joy Formidable was very impressive in their set at the Nikon Warner Sound showcase at Belmont during SxSW. Ritzy is a manic powerhouse and the entire band, including drummer Matthew James Thomas by way of his frontline half open drum kit, so everything possible to connect with the crowd. Big strobes, jumping into the pit, TJF is always encouraging the crowd to come along with them. IO ECHO was the opener at Emo's , and quite honestly, the more interesting act on the night. New to big touring, they get [...]
Our favorite albums of 2013 so far with an RDIO playlist!

photos by Dave Lichterman ( view set ) Fans of The Joy Formidable are used to seeing guitarist and vocalist Ritzy Bryan thrashing about wild-eyed on stage, practically destroying her guitar, her amps and the audience's ears. She and bassist/vocalist Rhydian Dafydd and percussionist Matthew James Thomas always seem to keep it together, though, even on the verge of chaos. That's their gift, and why fans pack venues to see their explosive live shows. Funny, then, it should be during an acoustic set on the Morning Show when they let out all of [...]
