A fair few people will be familiar with The Just Joans already as most of the songs on this debut album have been around in various forms for several years, but for those new to the them, they're based in Glasgow and this is a point they like to make unbelievably clear. If I'm honest, I hadn't quite considered what a Christmas EP from The Just Joans might sound like. The Just Joans are a band that I've never been able to completely embrace. I'm not entirely sure why this is, and the most logical reason could simply be that I just haven't heard very much of their material. From what I have heard, I've liked some, and disliked others. At their best, they manage to combine brutal honesty with humour (see Hey Boy... You're Oh So Sensitive ), while at the other end of the spectrum they can prove to be too pessimistic even for a miserable sod such as myself. I have no idea [...]

Tweet WeePOP! records have announced some great news today. They will release a new EP with the lovely The Just Joans , "Your pain is a joke next to mines", on 27 September. It will be a 7 track EP, as usual on a handstamped 33 cd with handmade cover. I said "as usual", but from now on, the 33 discs will not be the only thing WeePop! will release. They will start releasing full lenght albums on "giant-sized" (standard 5″) cds, [...]
I love Indietracks. In preparation for writing this, I've been concerned that anything I say is just going to be horribly gushing. I've gone over the weekend again and again looking for negatives to include in this. I didn't come up with very much. This is a festival that can seemingly do no wrong to me, and what's written below will reflect that. There is a growing underground force of pop labels releasing music on nontraditional formats. Of these formats, two prevalent ones, at least in the lo-fi pop and twee pop arenas, are cassette and the 3-inch single. Being such a strong fan of the genres that release via these formats, one would think I would have the ability to play them when they arrive in my mailbox. Unfortunately, I do not at this time.
