There's a lot of emphasis on intensity and passion in music. Quite understandably too, the ability to convey emotions through sound is ingrained in society and those that can convey it better than others are often idolised for it. The same can be said for performances too. Ones that make your spine tingle are not regular occurences, and you need to look no further than Nirvana's legendary MTV unplugged performance for how powerful they can be. It's not just emotion either, there's no weeping in the Arctic Monkey's brash debut but the relatable message of their beery tales and spiky [...]
The Kabeedies - Soap 9/10 When I was preparing this album review I realised that I am in my fifth year of writing for various sites - a pretty scary thought! The reason this sprung to mind was that back in 2007 was the first time I wrote about The Kabeedies. It seems strange to think that they have really been around that long. I have always had a soft spot for the band, especially in the live arena. In the early days and on [...]
This is my alternative list to the BBC's Sound Of', which always seems to me to feature artists who have pretty much broken already. That may sound pretentious of me, but I can assure you that's not my intention. I never forget the privileged position I have of hearing lots of great artists ahead of the curve. The price I pay tapping away at a keypad every evening & listening to every promo that hits the mat seems a small one, and I still get a real buzz from seeing & meeting emerging artists in small venues. This [...]
It's 7.30am. I awake to the alarm call that has been continual throughout the small hours of cries of 'Vegas!' and 'Shagaluf!' coming from the red van parked far too near my tent oasis. My travelling companion Steve Hunt - now known as Ray Mears for his ability to create all manner of useful items from a utility tool - emerges from next tent with more than a glint of murder in his eyes. A fellow disgruntled camper removes the wing mirror from the offending van. Seems I slept right through the early morning dramas. Having placed Ray in a [...]
This is going to be one of a series of takes on Playfest. I decided pretty early Saturday morning that there were two ways of covering the festival. I could plant myself in the backstage artist hospitality area chatting with bands and tour managers, or get out around the festival. I'm sure some of the backstage stuff would of been insightful and possibly more beneficial to my personal contacts list. A phone call to meet Danny Mahon who I had booked for the acoustic stage kind of changed [...]

Panda Su It feels like ages since we've heard anything new from the awesome Panda Su, her last EP, 'Sticks & Bricks' was a particular favourite round these parts, and she is now set to release her follow-up EP 'I Begin' in late April. She kicks off a UK tour tonight in Edinburgh at Sneaky Pete's, so if you're in that neck of the woods then get yourself down, oh and make sure you get down early as I Build Collapsible Mountains is supporting. As a prelude to what you can expect from her new EP she's posted [...]

The Kabeedies: Better Than Espresso
Happy Monday! Do you lack pep, zip, or brio? Has your get-up-and-go gotten up and went? Do you suffer from "swamp brain?" We introduce The Kabeedies, from England. Their video for "Eyes" contemplates the human life cycle in three fast-moving minutes. Recommended if you like cute babies, cute indie-pop (reminds us of The Futureheads), and cute ...

Here is what we know about The Kabeedies . Like our very own Lizzie, they hail from Norwich. In 2007, the then-teenagers formed a band, their demo was picked up by Steve Lamacq and he played it on his show, they then found themselves at Maida Vale recording a session for Huw Stephens. Following this support they picked up festival slots at Glastonbury and Latitude, a US tour with CSS and a few single releases here and there. In 2009 The Kabeedies continued their run with a UK tour, more festival appearances and the release their debut album [...]
