After a short break last Friday, let's continue on with The Kickback's SXSW Tour Video Diary, which in it's fifth day, it's nearing it's conclusion. The band stopped by the Chicago I Love You BBQ, take a dramatic time out, get a much needed massage (from a chair) and bid an emotional farewell to their manager Brian Foy before departing for Oklahoma and more. Enjoy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR_4dk WAIEY
It's Day Four of The Kickback's SXSW Tour Video Diary, and we finally get to SXSW's essence: a loud and energetic rock show. This time at night and with an incredibly acceptive crowd. Not to mention frontman Brian Yost does his best Eddie Vedder impersonation and tries to do a little stage stunt that leaves him a bit worse for wear. Enjoy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyGyas jrtcw
Day three of The Kickback’s SXSW Tour Video Diary find the indie rockers smack in the middle of SXSW happenings. Rock shows in the bright Texas sun, a puppet-lead man-on-the-street segment with their “manager” Howie and a special guest cameo from Public Enemy’s Chuck D are all included. Yes, you read that correctly. Dig it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzRI85 3ozhQ
South By Southwest may have officially ended, but The Kickback's SXSW Tour Video Diary rolls on. Day Two begins in Texas. Uh, Dallas, Texas, where the band intercept their manager Brian Foy, and also where their puppet manager Howie lands a shift at an In-And-Out Burger. Again, in Texas. But The Kickback do manage to maneuver their way through bad traffic and into Austin just in time to meet the press and rock a showcase. Day three is coming soon, but in the meantime, check out Day two: [...]
Welcome to The Kickback's SXSW Tour Video Diary: Day One. In my mind The Kickback need no introduction, but for those who havent been keeping up, they're a deliciously melodic indie rock quartet who have been kicking out crunchy sweet jams since 2009. And we've been covering them since 2010 . Like many bands in mid-March, The Kickback headed to Austin to play a number of official SXSW showcases, and they decided to document the journey via a SXSW tour video diary. This is day one, which finds the band getting loose pre-tour, [...]

CyHi The Prynce dropped a solid mixtape last week. Today we get some new visuals from the G.O.O.D. Music representative. Peep his latest visuals for "Kick Back". Sean CK is utterly confused by this song and video. You can make your own judgement below.

Last week, we pushed a story about SF2's weekly Kickback Sundays event and its Raw Talent showcase. As long as the series was, certain things got left out on the cutting-room floor. Here are a ... Continue reading "Catching Up With Kickback Sunday's Raw Talent Crew" >
The Chicago-based band The Kickback have released a new single, "Sting's Teacher Years" from their EP, Kill Fee. Listening to the single may bring to mind The Walkmen, so if you dig that band, I highly recommend checking out "Sting's Teacher Years". Listen to it after the jump. The [...]

While i was on twitter, the fons had dropped a link to instrumental that he dug up, it was a video and in the title was something along the lines of 902s raw hip hop beat.. It sparked my attention, at about 30 secs in, it was already known that the composer "KickBack" has that boom bap raw snaps on point.. His soundcloud page is gold and rare.. This type of sound i respect.. Nonetheless bang this, no need to hesitate to throw this up in your rotation. There's too much quality to just throw up one track, Here's.. [...]

And now three reasons to high-tail it on over to Schubas this evening... 1. It's the final Monday in March, so that means it's the last night of The Kickback's residency at Schubas. I must give props to The Kickback for booking some excellent locals to jam with them this month, which is why we're spotlighting one of tonight's supporting acts: The Dirty Pigeons . This Chicago act offers up a sizzling batch of laid back Midwestern roots and folk rock. But most of all The Dirty Pigeons seem to [...]

Three reasons to get out while it's still 80 degrees and right into Schubas this evening... 1. It's Monday, so that means it's another Kickback residency night at Schubas. I must give props to The Kickback for booking some excellent locals to jam with them this month, which is why we're spotlighting one of tonight's supporting acts, Pet Lions . The local indie rock quartet seem to have a good handle on infectious melodies and danceable grooves based on their latest release, Houses . But [...]

St. Patty's Day Weekend have you stricken with a severe case of the Mondays? For Chicagoans, just power through the workday, then head to Schubas Tavern for some aural therapy courtesy of the brothers Yost and the rest of The Kickback . For everyone else, we suggest a comfortable night on the couch customizing your settings for the recently launched CoS mobile app . The third installment of the March residency welcomes Chicago's own Pet Lions , Panda Riot , and Cali's Mister Loveless . Tickets are still available for [...]

Making the monthly mixes usually results in having a bunch of good songs orphaned. In the past, I've had enough leftover material to make half editions of the Blogophilia mixes. This usually leads to confusion and questions about why have a half mix at all. I am not a fan of confusion, nor do I like to explain myself. So I've decided that there will be no more "half mixes" posted on the blog. Instead, we'll have a Biscuits & Gravy series, which reflects a surplus of good music that never made it to the monthly mix. I am a [...]

And now three reasons to celebrate Pulaski Day by rocking out at Schubas tonight... 1. Another month, another month-long residency at Schubas that features an up-and-coming Chicago act. Every Monday in March brings indie rockers The Kickback to the Lakeview bar. I really dug the Kickback's 2010 EP, Great Self Love , as it showcased a versatile band with the chops to boot. On it, the band crafted tight, melodic pop songs that still featured quite a bit of edge via alt-rock leaning guitars [...]

Violently Carsick by The Kickback " We recorded this after our fans helped us win a Deli reader's poll and got us some free studio time. The song was originally supposed to be a take on the song "Route 66" for a Red Bull tour diary, but they didn't seem to be down with our turning it into a six-minute ramblethon and not really using the words, and we can't really blame them. But they still suck. Thanks for making this yours. " -- from The Kickback's Bandcamp page Jim [...]
