Episode 39 of The Mix Tape Podcast is now available for download! This week's podcast begins with another track from the forthcoming N.A.S.A. album which is proving to be quite a record - there are no two ways about it, this is going to be a huge album. Next we sample the tribal, dub-infused electronic trip that is Devil's Trident from two girls calling themselves Telepathe - we're slowly falling in love with these guys. [...]

Will get the BBC Introducing show up here soon, having problems with the internet connection here at Chrome Mansions and it won't upload for that long without resetting the server, but soon. Actually spent most of the day at Radio 1 robbing their new tunes, unfortunately can't post any up here but came away with some great stuff. One that looked interesting was The King Blues with dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip , unfortunately on closer inspection it wasn't all that and definitely [...]

image: Nick Today UK-based George Lenton just called to say h.e.l.l.o and to ship over a fine assortment of his already BBC Radio 1 approved sweetmeats. We simply helped ourselves and snatched benevolently at his offer of audio-kickshaws that made us click our tongues and whistle amused like a buff-breasted wren. Here's a selection of three of George's sparklers we'd like to warble directly though your speakers now. This is pirate radio, baby. Mp3: George Lenton feat. Perkie - Sleep [...]
Legendary venue, the London Astoria is facing its final night on 14 January 2009 before closing to make way for some shops and stuff while they build the Crossrail thing underneath it. Headlining the night will be The Automatic with a host of other bands including My Vitriol , Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly, The King Blues, VV Brown and Frank Turner with loads more yet to confirm. In one last hurrah, these bands are giving the central London venue a big send-off whilst raising money for charities, Love Music, [...]

We don't really have enough words to put down about this remix that Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip did of the amazingly stream-of-conscience, near-Jim-Carroll-poetry-styled track by the UK punk/reggae/ska ruffians The King Blues , "What If Punk Never Happened?". Instead, we'll just give you both the original and the remix and you can come up with your own sort-of-saucy-and-probably-hil arious quips in the comments. Yesterday I grabbed a track called "Get on Down" by some dude named Drama off the Hollerboard. I wasn't familiar with the artist, so I wasn't really expecting much. However, this cut's actually rather impressive. It starts off uninterestingly with repeated vocals, simple claps, and an oft-used b-more beat. However, as Drama slowly adds more elements, his song just gets better and better. Dude knows when to keep it somewhat old-school and when to bring in some new, overpowering synths. Quite nice. Right then. Here we go. Over the next few weeks I'll be posting up my albums of the year, in order, all one-hundred-and-thirty-one, from the most dreadful to the very best... 131. One Night Only 'Started A Fire' (Vertigo) – Worst Album Of The Year. Don't let em fool you. 130. The King Blues 'Save The World. Get The Girl' (Island) – Shameful cockney trollop. 129. Katy Perry 'One Of The Boys' (Capitol) – Single good. Album shocking. 128. The Fratellis [...]
Ok, enough already with all this Christmas music, we've got bigger fish to fry (love the season really but have to say that for dramatic effect to introduce this remarkable song). You'll probably have gathered from my distinct attention to type that I don't often take diversions off the indie rock highway but 'What If Punk Never Happened' is too big a distraction to ignore. It's taken from

It's either feast or famine, and this week it's a full spread. After reading about the Alan Cohen Experience earlier today, now you get a chance to taste something quite different. You might remember me mentioning The King Blues a couple times over the last year. The first time was back in February when I wrote about their debut album's release here in the States. Then in May I gave a sneak peak at the title track from their upcoming album Let's Hang the Landlord . Well, time has [...]

You may not have heard of The King Blues yet, but that's all going to change, at least if the band's three members have any say in the matter. Formed in London in 2004, the band has been making waves in their homeland with the recent release of "Save the World, Get the Girl" (available via iTunes and Amazon ), a polished, political punk rock classic with shades of The Clash and The Pogues and The Streets. The King Blues - "I Got Love" [...]

Eve's Plum Named for the actress that played the middle Brady sister , the New York band made two records for Sony in the mid-90s before calling it quits after failing to make a dent in the charts. The band's singer, Colleen Fitzpatrick, took a stab at a solo career under the name Vitamin C, but she too, came up short in terms of chart success... Today's just a sneak peak at the first finished track from The King Blues ' new album coming later this year (Octoberish or so) titled Let's Hang the Landlord . You might remember me writing about them earlier this year back here . If you're not familiar with the band, they're a youthfully exuberant mix of punk and ska ( Dropkick Murphy style but Brit-dub-reggaeish instead of an Irish front). According to the lead singer Itch, this here track is the story of his childhood, tatoos, red wine, and all. Enjoy. [...]

"Growing up in punk, politics was always an accepted part of music. It was never a conscious thing. That said, we do have an agenda that's quite simple: we want to unite people. We see a lot of dividing and conquering going on in society and that's upsetting us. We're freedom fighters and activists. We want to cross all divisions." No, the above quote doesn't come from Zack de la Rocha , it comes from Johnny "Itch" Fox , who sings vocals and plays ukulele for the Brit band [...]

To say that The King Blues was a complete dub/reggae assault would be limiting this London band. While there is plenty of amazing dub on their album "Under The Fog", from the deep percussion almost Capdown influenced "Blood On My Hands" and "Come Fi Di Youth" to the familiar Slightly Stoopid sound of "Mr. Music Man" and "Chimp in A 3 Piece Suit", The King Blues incorporates so much more on this album. Take for instance "We [...]
