This Saturday, Dallas once again celebrates its finest day of the year, St. Patrick's Day. There is no logic or reason as to why Dallas goes so bananas for this particular holiday, but it certainly beats all others in this fine city. Below is a compilation of events that are going to be happening this Saturday (Dallas only) for the holiday, and I may be adding to said list thoroughout the day or tomorrow, so check early, check often, and I'll see you Saturday. 31st Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade | Greenville Avenue | Info [...]

As bombarded as we have been in recent weeks with local album releases, perhaps the one we are most excited about is Danny Balis' "Too Much Living". For good reason too, as Balis is simply everywhere right now. Aside from helming one of the area's most popular radio talk shows, his other regular gig playing bass with arguably the hottest honky tonk band in Dallas, The King Bucks keeps him busy 8-9 nights a month. And while this would be enough to satisfy most men not named Jack White, it didn't stop Balis from recording his stunning solo debut, "Too [...]

Country music and booze are the star-crossed lovers of many an old story; a heavy story that Boys Named Sue have taken it upon themselves to tell. Being wrought from many of Dallas' great bands as well as taking the self-proclaimed title of "Best Band Ever", you can tell that these Boys must be quite an eccentric group of musicians, having a sound of old country fused with contemporary rock. So I take a shot of Jameson, crash into my comfortable red chair, literally, and immerse into the beginning pages of Boys Named [...]

As an attempt at full-disclosure I will admit that I am a member of that coveted male 25-54 demographic and as such I find myself tuning into local sports radio station 1310-AM The Ticket --probably a lot more than I should. Judge if you must, but once you make it past the obligatory fart drops you discover bits of gold, such as local country act the King Bucks . The band features former members of the Drams (Chad Stockslager and Keith Killoren), members of Sorta (Danny Balis and Chris Carmichael) and a one [...]

Before we delve into this weekend's show options, a bit of a programming note: I'll be out of the office tomorrow, and Jesse Hughey will be en route/just starting to set up shop in Austin at this year's ACL Fest where he, along with a couple of our photographers and our counterparts at our sister paper, the Houston Press , will be blogging all weekend long, offering, no doubt, insightful commentary, hilarious anecdotes and phenomenal slideshows of the festival. So, don't fret, there will be blogging in this space tomorrow--and Saturday and Sunday, too, [...]
I'm not real sure what happened to all the you-tubers this weekend. Actually, I think I have a good guess , but apparently they didn't see Pete's post about this past weekend's shows . Something seemed to be amiss on the cyber waves. Apparently the you-tubers decided they needed some time off too... Anyway, on to the video clips... Close your eyes and imagine you have dreadlocks and that they are swaying to the slow beat of the rhythm section under the stars while you're holding hands with my significant [...]
