"First Among Equals" is richly textured with musical influences ranging from Explosions in the Sky style guitar work to OK Computer era Radiohead. The song comes via a post-humous EP by The King Left that was recorded during the sessions for their full length Perfect Without People released earlier this year. The band played their last show on the album's release date. Stay tuned to TheKingLeft.com to find out about the new project from Corey (vocals, guitar) & Graham (percussion) that will debut in early 2011. The [...]

"The Way to Canaan" - The King Left Okay so noise is one thing. When you come right down to it, it's easy to make noise. Never understood what the fuss was about from the rock'n'roll primitivists who glorify sheer volume. I mean, okay--turn the bloody amps up and boom. It's noisy. Like, wow. Start combining noise with discipline and you begin to get my attention. Start understanding music enough to create different kinds of noise, not all of which are simply loud, and now you've [...]

The King Left @ Mercury Lounge December 4 th 2008 + Interview w/ Corey Oliver (Photo Credit: Nicole Wasilewicz ) What makes a quintessential New York City band? Tonight at the Mercury Lounge in NYC, a band I've been watching for a bit, A MILLION YEARS , fronted by Keith Madden, who happens to be a great guitarist as well. Also on the bill is a band we've played on the radio show quite a bit, THE KING LEFT , plus The Kiss Offs and The Howlies. $10 is cheap in NY. alt=rss

Rival Schools finally played the first New York show they officially announced a couple months back at the Mercury Lounge last Thursday. It was their second set of the night, as they opened up for Bad Brains at Irving Plaza show earlier in the evening. The band played a great set of the classics from their debut album as well as previewing some of the new tracks like "Arranged Marriages" and "Big Wave." They also rocked a cover of "How Soon Is Now?," which they dedicated to our new President elect, Barack [...]

On Friday radio station RLC, better known to the world as 90.FM The Core held a show at the Cook Campus Center at Rutgers University . The show boasted a pretty awesome lineup of New Brunswick's own The Gaslight Anthem , as well as Polar Bear Club , NYC's The King Left , and another up and coming Brunswick band, Let Me Run . A last minute cancellation by Polar Bear Club (their van broke down) slimmed down the lineup for the night but didn't change much of the [...]

The Gaslight Anthem performed at Rutgers in their hometown of New Brunswick this past weekend. Let Me Run and The King Left opened. Unfortunately, Polar Bear Club 's van broke down and they canceled last minute. Gaslight's set was full of interesting tales of fortune tellers from Australia during an hour and half long set of damn good rock and roll. Check out some photos below. [...]
Last night I attended the final Summer Screen event at McCarren Park Pool for Wes Anderson's Rushmore . Surprisingly, we were allowed to bring alcohol BUT it could not be in glass. My huge 6.99 bottle of Trader Joe's wine had to be poured into cups provided by the door people, and we maneuvered our way to a decent spot, along the way picking up free gifts from Starbucks and the sort. The King Left played an enjoyable set before the movie started a little after 8PM. It was a really nice and bittersweet [...]
New York City based indie rockers The King Left have posted their first video for "The Storm In A Teacup" from their new ep New York Nothing. The band just finished their second show of a three show residency at Piano's. Catch their last show next Thursday at 9:30 PM.

THE KING LEFT played round 2 of their 3 week residency at Piano's last night. The show debuted a new multimedia experience created by Matt Dunn , who also directed their video for "The Storm In The Teacup." The presentation was strung together abstract clips of black and white video that was accentuated by the changes of the music. The visual element brought some new life to King Left favorites like "By The End, Juggling Wolves" and "Brant." One offbeat [...]
Bands: The King Left, Eulogies, Land Of Talk, Film School - Review to appear on Junkmedia.org Land Of Talk | Photo Gallery Call me an ass, but I didn't stick around for Film School. I was here to see Land Of Talk - they've played the area at least a dozen times in the past year, but I managed to miss them every time. I first discovered them at SXSW this past March. Even though I only caught [...]
