Lion King - Tenderlions.AVI Tenderlions live at BFD 2011
King Mez 's new album, My Everlasting Zeal , is shaping up quite nicely. The leaks we've heard thus far, especially the latest in "Monte Carlo", have been nothing short of impressive. On "Monte Carlo", the Raleigh, N.C. native flexes an ambidextrous flow over the layered beat from Commissioner Gordon, who deserves props for one of the better producer aliases out there. My Everlasting Zeal is due out at the end of the month. You can stream "Monte Carlo" here .

Ben Sollee, from press kit One of my favorite musicians, Ben Sollee , will be coming by the station on May 10 at 1 p.m. for an in-studio performance and interview before his show at Kings Barcade (Cat's Cradle Presents). Sollee's music is inspired by his Kentucky roots, but spans genres from folk to jazz, carried by his syncopated rhythms and smooth voice. You may recognize Ben Sollee from his work with Daniel Martin Moore on Dear Companion , an album [...]
Monto only seems to work during the early hours of the morning. 'King's Castle' was put up on his Soundcloud page at about 6am this morning. His workrate's phenomenal, this being his third new track in 11 days. As you might imagine from the cover above, it's a little bit [Read more]

Phonte links with 9th Wonder, Evidence & Big K.R.I.T. to create visuals for his track, The Life Of Kings. Phonte even has a guest appearance by his mother, who ends up spitting Evidence's verse! This is a dope song with so fun visuals of artists who are actually friends and enjoy their time shooting a vid. Check it out below.
Watch the album teaser for South of France 's debut album, "Another Boring Sunrise" , featuring new song, "Choix [Choice]" . Those that have been following the site for a bit have probably figured out that, since Introducing them in December based on the strength of their "Kings" EP, we're fans of Colorado duo South of France . So much so, in fact, that their debut album, which supposedly to be ready at the end of January (whoops!), was on the [...]

It feels like ages since Zoo Kid made all of our hearts skip a beat (or two) with his striking debut single Out Getting Ribs (it actually is over a year and a half old already!) - since then the red-haired London'er changed his alias to King Krule and released a stunning 5-track EP on True Panther. He barely set foot on the European mainland apart from some gigs in France and Portugal, but the Botanique have invited him to play at their Les Nuits so go see this kid (he's only 18?!) perform live. [...]

You might have heard of Lee Bannon thanks to his work with an impressive list of hip hoppers, with the likes of Talib Kweli, Inspectah Deck, Curren$y and Saigon all gracing a beat or two for Lee. But the Sacramento producer has gone down a slightly different path for the first tune from his newest project, Caligula Theme Music . Lee employ a more atmospheric style on 'Kings & Stones', toning down the boom-bap and shooting for a more Burial-esque beat style. You can check 'Kings & [...]

King Fix is the alternate moniker of producer Laurel Halo , and under that name she will be releasing a new EP on Mute's Liberation Technologies label next week called Spring . 'SPRING02' builds slowly into an amazing hazy techno dub. Listen below and tell us what you think. For more information on her forthcoming Hyperdub release, click here .

Robert Glasper Experiment - Black Radio Blue Note Records: 2012 Robert Glasper and his Experiment. These are some supremely talented dudes. This experiment feels like deconstruction, followed by reconstruction, and then a little dash of flash. Mr. Glasper and his jazz players take the familiar and tried tenets of jazz and hip-hop and use them to reconstruct something completely original and exciting. And, on their newest release, Black Radio , Glasper and his comrades deliver a truly exciting fully realized album. The jazz pianist's latest release features [...]
The Kings - The Kings Are Here The Kings were vendors of an over-the-top, but oh so sweet 80's pop of the most powerful variety, though leaning way heavier into the new wave category. Opened by a great double shot of "This Beat Goes On/Switchin' To Glide" which melt into one another in a seamless sugar shock; the rest of the album never relents, buoyed by exuberant keys and the kind of pop swagger and hooks that most bands would kill for. However, they were relegated to a forgotten pile of 80's [...]

Young Money youngster Tyga - all 21 years of him - might not be the right demographic for this here site. But throw in comparative old timer Nas and you've got yourself a ball game. Wee Tygs has joined forces with Nasir and super star in the making Wale to record 'Kings & Queens', a vibe-laden beauty of a tune produced by Arthur McArthur. Not wanting to judge a book by its cover and all that... but this isn't the sort of tune I expected to hear on Tyga's new album, Careless World [...]
