The Knux are back! The duo that is a member of the elite club of groups who can do the hip hop rock thing effectively released an EP entitled KTWN (get it on iTunes//preview on Spotify). "It's All Gonna Fall" is just a preview of what it has to offer and I am into it. The track is less rap than we're used to-it actually sort of, kind of, maybe, reminds me of a TV on the Radio song I've heard at some point in my life. What do you gangsters think? Stream: The [...]

All too often in hip-hop, rappers seek to prove their complexity by forcing some rock sounds into their production, sampling an indie hit from two years ago, or pretending to play guitar on stage. For The Knux , that rock influence has never been a gimmick. Inspired by their L.A. neighborhood, the new EP, called KTWN , is a blend of the duo's eclectic set of influences, and the guys prove once again that those sources of inspiration can work together strikingly well. Just check out "It's All Gonna Fall." Get the 5-song EP on iTunes [...]

Back in July, alt-hip-hip duo The Knux released the lead single off their KTWN "sonic short" (not quite an EP, yet longer than a single), in the form of the raucous "Animal" . With the effort out on iTunes November 26th, the duo return today to unveil a second single, "Toke Up". Despite the title, the pair use the sticky icky more as a coping mechanism, expressing the stressors that make them turn to Mary Jane over a hazy guitar sample ("Lust for that BG make that chi-chi warm/ Feel that drip in between their [...]

Chicago absolutely has no shortage of up and coming emcees. But one that has seemingly been embraced by the local indie community as of late is Show You Suck , and it's easy to hear why. Not only did he show up on a remix of a Netherfriends track spouting off rhymes about Fugazi and Minor Threat, but his 2011 debut, OMPP2: Mo Slices Mo Problems< /em>, is full of clever rhymes, bold beats and slick hooks. Whether he's rapping about searching for mexican food in the early morning ("Healthy") [...]
The apology before the mayhem. The Knux toke up with few sympathies for the sober. Another spatially disorienting psychedelic banger from the brothers Lindsey, leading up to the imminent release of their KTWN EP (see also: last week's " Animal "). 2/2 if you're keeping track. Found footage of the head Wailer, Hendrix, and Vietnam soldiers smoking buds from gun barrels. Some groovy raps and riffs - an ideal blend of fresh and familiar. Always homegrown. Someone needs to book Knux on the next Smokers Club tour alongside Juicy J. Let things get trippy.

Alt-hip-hop duo/siblings The Knux recently parted ways with Interscope Records, less than a year after the release of their album Eraser . The pair is celebrating their newfound career independence with KTWN . The self-described "sonic short" (not quite an EP, yet longer than a single) is named after Los Angeles' Koreatown, where the boys previously lived, and serves as an ode to "their homegrown, back-to-basics new music". The first single from KTWN is called "Animal". Backed by a familiar sample of vintage horns infused with a jangly [...]
The guitar-wielding alternative hip-hop duo, The Knux, is back with a newly released single titled "Animal". After a brief hiatus from the music scene, departure from Interscope Records and relocation to KoreaTown in downtown Los Angeles, the two bring some West Coast inspiration on this track coupled with heavy guitar riffs, high energy raps and echoing chorus vocals. This is their first release since their Eraser LP in September 2011 and first single off their upcoming project KTWN , named after the place they now call home. The Knux - [...]

"Rebel, rebel, punk rock be the motto." The Knux come through today with a fairly big announcement. Following the release of their debut album, Remind Me In Three Days ... and its follow-up, Eraser , on Interscope, the band has parted ways with the label and will release its next project independently. Next up from the Knux is a project titled KTWN , which is described as not quite and more than a single. In my five years as a pro word whore, The Knux rank among the most naturally gifted musicians I've ever seen. Before anyone had heard of them, they had management deals with Matthew Knowles and then Paul Rosenberg. They played multiple instruments, made beats that fused psychedelic rock, New Wave and boom-bap, and rapped well. Their 2005-06 self-produced demo sparked a bidding war, before Interscope scooped them up and promptly realized that they didn't have a clue what to do with them. Their debut Remind Me in Three Days was too early and under-promoted to catch [...]
So, I had a couple of The Knux videos to choose from (electronic press kits are just like Lunchables in many ways, probably better tasting too). I could've went with "1974" but the song reminded me so much of the Black Eyed Peas that I had a conniption fit. You know what I'm talking about [...]
The NATALI KILLS sings about doing it like it's 1974 and roller-skates around a school disco as the KNUX take care of the verses.

The Weeknd was another one of this years most blogged about artists with the two mixtapes released in 2011. The first House of Balloons is one of my personal favorites. Interscope recording artist Jordy Towers will join label mates The Knux on a cross-country tour that kicks off November 8th in Scottsdale, AZ. With a bold but melodious voice, Jordy brings energy and charisma to his rapping and singing. From his quirky yet confident charm, you wouldn't know Towers was homeless after a short stint in jail until last year when he signed a [...]
