These guys might be somebody that I missed from awhile back, and I hope they aren't because that would mean that I have missed out on listening to their music for longer than I would like, but they are too catchy to deny some attention from us. They call themselves, Last Dinosaurs, and they've got a new-ish EP out. It's called, Back From The Dead - EP. Their MySpace page info description reads: [...]

Early in the 20th century popular music was dominated by a collection of music publishers and songwriters, who operated under the moniker Tin Pan Alley. This collective was responsible for the lion's share of musical output of the era, with the performing artists themselves playing second fiddle to the men that pulled the strings. Now, early in the 21st century, it could be argued that not much has changed. In a world infected with the X Factor, a flailing chart and an army of wannabes demanding their piece of Andy Warhol's oft-quoted prophecy, it is, once again, the [...]

Attention live music lovers: Local boys Yves Klein Blue and Last Dinosaurs are teaming up with Cloud Control for a series of super awesome (and cheap!) gigs across Australia's major cities and regional areas throughout March and April. The YKB boys have been busier than a one legged arse kicker – bringing Brisbane's best to the UK, touring regional Oz with Bluejuice and kicking it at Falls Fest. Just last month they also jumped on board the Bacardi Express soul train with the likes of La Roux, Art vs. Science, Miami [...]

Cheap party props are fun and Last Dinosaurs wear them well. They also play like a band that have been touring for years despite their youth. They may have been too young to play Rats but they are familar with the Phoenix back catalogue - loved the Funky Square Dance jam. Hopefully they're allowed to get pirate ear rings next time, as their support of Yves Klein Blue continues through April. Dates on their myspace here. Follow them on twitter for decorating advice here.

Weekly Playlist 18 features Death Crew 77, Last Dinosaurs, Broken Social Scene, Post War Years, Spoon and Two Door Cinema Club. Death Crew 77 (The Bloody Beetroots) - DOMINO Almost as epic as Warp. It seems everything Steve Aoki touches turns to gold. Last Dinosaurs - Honolulu Bisbane based four-piece currently touring with Yves Klein Blue. Look out for these guys! Check out some more of their tracks on myspace [...]
Today's 'Introducing' feature is a look back at all the bands we covered in February, plus a mixtape for you to download and a competition to win that mixtape on an actual cassette tape (look above...or below!). February was an amazing month of discoveries for us. Lots of hiddem gems and bands for the future! Not only have they all made some amazing songs (hence we covered them) but they were kind enough to donate a song for you to download. [...]
"I'll teach you what you need to know." Young Brisbane, AU band Last Dinosaurs is supremely under-represented in blogosphere. I expected a good page or more of hits from the Hype Machine (hypem.com), but all that came up was a lonely few. The EP launch show earlier this weekend celebrated the release of Back From The Dead . Pick up a copy when you get chance, as all five tracks are equally fantastic. For preview below is my favorite [...]
We feature The Last Dinosaur today in our 'Introducing' range and out of nowhere they attack us with this rather awesome re-working of 1998 smash hit, 'Are You That Somebody' by Aaliyah ft. Timbaland. MP3: The Last Dinosaur - Are You That Somebody (cover) Beautiful stuff! Link: The Last Dinosaur Myspace Page Header photo by Alexandra Cameron

When it comes to the Winter months we all need a bit of warmth. A hug, a jumper, a scarf wrapped tightly and a pair of mittens - these are all essential to surviving a period of time most animals would hibernate through. After listening to The Last Dinosaur , I'm pretty sure they should be included in everyone's 'Winter Check-list'. MP3: The Last Dinosaur - I Found My Voice The [...]

The Luyas The Luyas - Spherical Mattress This is because I have heard their new record, and it is fantastic. Their debut, Faker Death , I have already praised as one of my favourite albums of the decade , and they haven't disappointed with the follow-up. They've grown more comfortable with their unique sound (horn, drums, mumbly singing and moodswinger) and figured out the best kind of songs to [...]

Taxi, Taxi! - Belle Erik Levander - Sekund Samamidon - Saro The Last Dinosaur - Gusts of Wind Blowing in Different Directions Arcade Fire - Accidents Blue Roses - I Am Leaving Auld Lang Syne - Where My Fortune Lies Some of my favourite songs for my favourite season. 'Gusts of Wind...' is taken from The Last Dinosaur's debut, which I am enjoying at the moment, and on which I have more to say. 'I Am Leaving' [...]

Cathy Jean Clark - My Grandmothers' Trees II The Last Dinosaur - Home (mp3): This is the part of the episode where the camera slowly zooms out to juxtapose a weighty decision with its plain context. Wide shot of a twin bed in a stark hospital room. Steady cam of a Toyota leaving someone standing in the driveway. Close up of a hand reaching out to touch a cheek. Slow motion of sneakers [...]

This band divides me in so many ways. On one hand, I've found their sound refreshing and instantly appealing, but at the same time I've been listing the bands they appear to be ripping off. One minute I'll be digging a melody, the next cursing them for repetition. There's so much contradiction going on, I'm beginning to wonder if we're schizophrenic. But whatever the case, this is a band to watch. They have a number of very strong songs that are sure to get some attention. In fact, it's more than likely I'll be hating them in about a year, [...]

The Last Dinosaur - I [...]

No guys sorry to disappoint but this is not the latest straight to video release of 'The Land Before Time' series, although who wouldn't want to hear about the latest adventures of little foot and the gang. I guess he would be Big Foot by now and have a family of his own. I just looked it up and found out there are actually 13 sequels already! That's a lot of Dino adventures! This isn't one of them. The Last Dinosaurs are a Brisbane band who have just popped up on the radar, think The [...]

This is the second part of this tribute to the songs that reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the Me Decade. For part one, go here . 10. Down Under-Men at Work. I chose to use this song, rather than the paranoid "Who Can It Be Now?" to represent my favorite member of the invasion of the Aussies in my top 20. Arguably, "Who" is more appropriate because there were so many paranoid songs in the 1980s (one of the best: Norman [...]
It was recently Michael Jackson's birthday. Rumor is, he was fifty. 50!! Christ, I'm getting old. Lots of these are mashups/remixes, because MJ makes dance music, so that's appropriate. Whatever controversy surrounds him, you can't deny Michael's skills. Happy birthday! And no zip this time, because I just can't be bothered with it. A is for ABC Easy Like ABC (blend)-Jackson 5, Tittsworth, and Green Velvet B is for beatboxing on a Billie Jean jam (Michael Jackson)-Spearhead. C is [...]

Formed in late 2006 The Last Dinosaur started out as a project between two friends, Jamie Cameron and Luke Hayden. Brought together by a mutual love of Peep Show, crisps, late nights and kids television programs -surely the vital foundation for any longterm friendship? One evening (possibly after one too many episodes of Peep Show), the pair for no other reason than that they were a little bit bored and felt a tad creative layed down the first fruits of what would be later known as 'The First Last Dinosaur Song'. A four minute [...]

"South will always be home [...]
