5 Songs is a weekly series where we point out the strange, the grand, and the unique connections between our favorite songs. Let's get weird. Words by Chris Wilco is a lot of things. Okay, bad start. Wilco is. That's better. It's kind of hard to put a finger on this band's direction from time-to-time, and that's probably good. They make interesting records, that's for sure. [...]

Some of you asked what happened to the S-25 Mix for this past Sunday. Sorry, folks, we've been so busy with the holidays that we had to skip the S-25 for this past week. Hopefully, this collection of new Christmas songs, most of which are original or covers of traditional Christmas songs, will make up [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Earlier this year our friend and fellow blogger-musician The Duke over at The Late Greats one half of the musical duo Coconut And The Duke , released a super cool album of avant-folk-jazz called In The Bamboo Forests Of Pennsylvania that I've been seriously remiss in not giving you all more info about. This month the Coconut And The Duke kicked off what they're promising will be a monthly series of cover tunes set free on the world on the first Tuesday of every month via their [...]
Passion Pit will have plenty of chances to show whether they're worthy of the hype this summer, and one of them will occur at London's Vibe Bar.

the patient's best intentions have sadly faltered. the late greats - destroy my brain (ingo star cruiser remix) (zshare)
Eastbourne based Indie outfit The Late Greats have dropped this space electro reMix of their track 'Destroy My Brain' by Ingo Star Cruiser Not much is known here about either the band or the reMixer but I get a real 'more-aggressive-The-Postal- Service' vibe from the track so it had to be posted. ♫ The Late Greats - Destroy My Brain (Ingo Star Cruiser reMix (Radio Edit)) (zShare) (MediaFire) It's a really nice track actually. 'Destroy My Brain' [...]
So what does the term "indie music" mean these days? Back in the good 'ole days it was easy; literally something released independently. Nowadays, well, it's a bit more complicated. You have to go a long away to find a truely "independent" label these days and they're increasingly becoming a dying breed as the recent shifting of power at 4AD shows. In the good 'ole days The Late Greats would be described as "indie". But, at the moment, these guys sound like stuff that's in the charts, that's featured on MTV and E4 and would soundtrack the end [...]
Hand 'Hang Me Up To Dry' to Fatboy Slim and predictability would soon ensue (can't forgive him the 'Brimful of Asha' heist). Let Dorset based Ingo Star Cruiser in on the action and the results are entirely more palatable. Like it or not the Cold War Kids rummaged together a modern day classic with their bass heavy monster but one thing you can't do is shake a leg along to it. So with all the

I'm just about ready for this week to be over and to go back to a regular schedule, but not before we host one more day party, and our rockin party tomorrow night. Today marks the welcoming of Princeton, followed by what is sure to be an amazing set from Eagle*Seagull, anchored by our dear friend Wakey!Wakey! I'll be a little late getting to the loft today to finish up some work for the week, but you can bet I'll be in a celebrating mood after that. PS - Illinois was just added [...]

After this post from Best Week Ever , I was gonna do a post called "A Pack of Wolves". As there are oodles of bands with "wolf" in the title. Instead, The Duke will feature bands with the word "Great" in their name. Fourteen bands to be exact. In beta-alphaical order: The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain ~ Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps The Sixth Great Lake ~ Everybody Loves To Be Loved The Late Greats ~ [...]
