When I was a kid this kind of conversation was considered highly comical. "I love my puppy/headband/Rainbow Brite doll/transformer..." "Oooh you love it, you wanna marry it..." I am so in love with this Mates of State cover of Jackson Browne's 'These Days' that marriage might be the only answer. These Days (Jackson Browne Cover) - Mates Of State

A business trip kept me from my writing duties this week, so Scotty has punished me by making me wrap up the week with Leftovers. Ok truth be told I was actually happy to do it since I was missing things around here. So let's see what I missed while I was out of the [...] A business trip kept me from my writing duties this week, so Scotty has punished me by making me wrap up the week with Leftovers. During this week I've received a couple of mentions over at daily fix A Free Man that have been both kind and unexpected. It's always nice when people leave comments and A Free Man has quickly become a regular reader and a valuable contributor here at It All Started . However I certainly didn't expect such a nice shout out from him last week and it honestly made my day. So I think it's time that I returned the favour. A Free Man's site is a lot more diverse than mine. There you will [...]

It was a cold and windy Melbourne night when I found myself wandering aimlessly around the perimeter of Festival Hall, finally navigating my way through a semi-dark alley to find Door 3 stashed away at the back of the building. My mum had spent the previous week warning me about what a hole Festival Hall is. "It was a dive when I saw the Bay City Rollers there, and I'm sure it's not any better now!". She's not far wrong. Later on when I sent her a text message about how I'd paid $80 for the privilege [...]

A pile of coverage to keep you going during what is shaping up to be a pretty busy week. Things might be a little slow here over the next few days, but I will eventually get around to that Sigur Ros post as promised. Oh, and naturally, these covers are all pretty cool. California (Phantom Planet Cover) - Mates Of State Lovefool (Cardigans Cover) - The Morning Benders Dreams (Fleetwood Mac Cover) - The Morning Benders Irreplaceable (Beyonce [...]

I saw Sigur Ros last night at Festival Hall and I can't quite bring myself to write about it yet. It was, of course, absolutely amazing, but I want to do the whole thing justice so I think I'll let the experience percolate for a while and attempt a review tomorrow. Meanwhile, sink your teeth into this one. Canadian Chad VanGaalen is a master of DIY indie rock who kicked things off with a smattering of homemade CDs complete with his own hand drawn art before being signed with US label Sub Pop in 2005. While I haven't [...]

...I will be well on my way down to the big smoke to soak in the jawdropping, heart melting, soul stroking wonder that is Sigur Ros. If that description makes you wonder whether I've taken leave of my senses, please overlook this momentary lapse. I am just so excited, I can't be responsible for my actions right now. I honestly don't know what I'm doing. Agaetis Byrjun - Sigur Ros And after some hunting, I've managed to track down my ideal set list - this is a New York gig they did [...]
Big thanks to A Free Man for indirectly pointing me towards Garfield Minus Garfield . Some clever cookie who goes by the name of Dan Walsh has removed the great cat from the Garfield comics, thereby creating a deeply moving study of one man, alone in the world, battling inner demons and palpable loneliness. Very cool. Something's Missing - John Mayer

From the Herald Sun website this evening: Customs to search for illegal downloads on MP3 players and laptops MUSIC fans might soon have their iPods searched by Customs officers at airport checks - and face jail if pirated music is found on them. The push for the unprecedented searches of travellers' laptops and MP3 players has been revealed in a leaked discussion paper relating to a treaty being negotiated by the Federal Government. It suggests criminal sanctions [...]

Oh this is fun. The Dropkick Murphys play boisterous in-your-face Celtic punk complete with Irish reels that spin under layers of throaty vocals and frenetic noise. Accordian, bagpipes and tin whistles abound. Fantastic. Sunshine Highway - Dropkick Murphys Wicked Sensitive Crew - Dropkick Murphys The Auld Triangle - Dropkick Murphys

I only possess two kinds of patience. The first is the patience that it takes to deal with kids, especially those that are more 'difficult' than others. Those kids that battle problems at home, learning difficulties, behavioural issues and so forth. The other kind of patience is more of the dogged variety, that which involves repeatedly trying to get your internet to work, reconnecting and retesting and ignoring the continual error messages. I kept this caper up for a whole week of non-internet and telephone availability. That's how long it took Telstra to get out here and fix the damn [...]
I'm writing this in what I hope is a five minute window that will allow me to whack up a quick post before the shit hits the proverbial. Our internet and phone has been on the blink over the last few days and Telstra assures us that it 'should be fixed by Thursday'. Cheers. No really, thanks for your amazing service Telstra. You are truly beacons of light in the wasteland that is the 'bush'. (Seriously, 15 minutes out of town, people). Am not even going to post a song because in the time it would take [...]

I had a Sliding Doors moment today. While visiting one of my daily reads, I Am Fuel, You Are Friends , my mouse hovered for several seconds over the link to 'The Legend of the Last of the Outlaw Truckers AKA The Ballad of Sheriff Shorty' by USA's The Dandy Warhols as a mental tug of war took place in my early-morning addled brain. I'd heard of 'em and I'd probably caught a track or two in the past, but I had some vague memory of deciding that I didn't like them much. Just before I left [...]

I've been putting off this latest Incoming installment because I've been waging a war within myself. What should be done about the email submissions received I either don't have enough time to listen to within a respectable time frame, or the ones that just don't do it for me? This blog is just a hobby, and sometimes it's hard to squeeze it in amongst all the other stuff you've gotta think about when you're a grown up person with, like, responsibilities and whatnot. I do enjoy receiving submissions, and I think it's important to feature only those that [...]

My university lecturers sure have a lot to answer for. I spent four years and thousands of dollars sitting in musty, drafty lecture theatres, frequently nodding off and wondering idly how many times one should use the word 'notion' during a 60 minute dictation about Piaget's stages of cognitive development, only to discover that it was a giant waste of time. What about the real issues? Not once was I warned that I may have to ask a 12 year old child to hand me the chocolate biscuits that they're eating noisily with their friends during a whole school assembly. [...]

Heathcliff, it's me, your Cathy, I've come home. I´m so cold, let me in-a-your window What a way to kick off a career. First time I heard this song I wondered what on earth had possessed the woman. Now, I just think it's brilliant. The imagery, the wildness in her voice, the crazy desperate shrieking. Awesome. Ooh! Let me have it. Let me grab your soul away. Ooh! Let me have it. Let me grab your soul away. You know it's me-Cathy! [...]

It's time to break out the "it's ALL good, brah" jokes because the original hippie jam fest, Walther Productions' All Good Festival, kicks off this afternoon at Marvin's Mountaintop in Masontown, WV.
