First off, what you are witnessing is the resurrection of SUGARTOWN. Yes, this is happening! After about two years of inactivity, I am back. Let's hope I don't become bored with myself too soon. Encouraging messages welcome. It seems fitting that the first thing I should get to gush about is the HOLY SHIT AM I DREAMING EVENT happening in April: Chickfactor is having a 20th Birthday Party! They're putting on two sets of shows. One will be at The Bell House in Brooklyn on April 10, 11 & 12 & the other will [...]

While it may have seemed like the Legendary Jim Ruiz Group were a part of the lounge and swing music revival of the '90s, Jim Ruiz, his brother Chris and then wife, Stephanie Winter were more

The Legendary Jim Ruiz Group 7th St. Entry Minneapolis, MN 5/9/07 A little over three years ago, Jim Ruiz decided to a one off reunion show at the 7th Street Entry . I had missed his last performance which was in NYC at the Chickfactor showcase in 2002, so I was determined to make this one. He debuted a bunch of new songs which he said would be out hopefully by the end of 2007. Three years later, no new info on a record which is a shame since the [...]

I realized that it's been nearly a year since I posted a track from one of my favorite bands, The Legendary Jim Ruiz Group . I flew out to Minneapolis to see him play a little over a year ago now and at the show he debuted a bunch of new songs which he said would be out hopefully by the end of 2007. We're now officially in the later half of 2008 and still no new record, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. This song was recorded a few years ago on 770 Radio K , the [...]

This wouldn't be much of a music blog (or music/food blog) without something recognizing today's festivities. Of course, quality love songs are in short supply -- when you're in love you have other things on your mind than writing about it -- but there are a few that I genuinely like. MP3 : The Free Design - Found Love | ( Buy ) Ok, this is Cheese Central but there's something genuine and innocent about it. It kinda sounds like what it feels in the early days -- dumb, goofy, smile-inducing. [...]

I just realized that I haven't posted a track from one of my favorite bands in over 6 months. This Legendary Jim Ruiz Group song was released on a compilation cd for a radio station. Unfortunately, I only got the one song as a .wav file so I don't know which radio station it was that put the compilation out. This is a great version of "Minneapolis" where the band plays along to a drum machine. I'm not sure if any other songs exist from this session, but I keep hoping I'll come across them if they do.
