Nashville Scene is halfway through its Sounds Of Summer series at the Hard Rock, but there are still two nights of fun left. Just to give you the heads up, rockabilly aficionados The Legendary Shack Shakers shake it up this Thursday at 7 p.m. Beanpole frontman J.D. Wilkes alone is worth the trip; watch him make attack after brutal attack on the mic, harmonica, whatever while the sounds of a devilish, rip-roaring southern punk fill the room. Get $5 tickets here in advance or pay $10 at the door.

Playing ribfest sounds like a punchline, for sure. But in recent years the organizers of Chicago's Ribfest in North Center have booked some decent musical acts. This year's lineup includes some locals, including Waco Brothers, My Gold Mask and Ezra Furman & the Harpoons . There are also sets by garage rockers The Ettes , rockabilly vets the Legendary Shack Shakers , country rocker Hayes Carll and the Twin Cities' Tapes 'n Tapes . All in all, it's a good lineup ... especially for a ribfest. [...]

I caught Tornado Rider at Tropical Heatwave last year under the advise of many a friend. They'd tried to describe what the band was like but much like I am about to here, they fell woefully short. It's not their fault. Trying to describe their live show is a lot like trying to describe a Legendary Shackshakers live show. You can put the spectacle in words, but the experience is beyond description. Visually, Tornado Rider is a three-piece featuring drums, bass and an electric cello being played by some fellows in fantasyish costumes. Sonically, they're pure [...]

All three of these bands are near and dear to 9b's collective heart, so to have them all on the same bill is a pretty damned fine thing. Autopsy is the one who first convinced me that I could not miss an LSS show, and after seeing my first a couple years back, I couldn't do anything but agree with him. Have Gun Will Travel have an incredibly fun chemistry to their sound that not only translates seamlessly to digital media in a way not many other bands can match, but is even [...]

I said this on both Twitter and Facebook and I think it's worth repeating here; I'd pretty much figured The Urbane Cowboys had called it quits, and yet here they are. Simply having them on a bill with Have Gun Will Travel makes this show worth its door charge (10 dollars I think), but then you add the utterly ridiculous cherry on top in the form of The Legendary ShackShakers . Those who know, know. Those who don't…well, what the fuck is wrong with you? Get your ass to The [...]

American Graveyard (or their hired hands) mounted a pretty substantial email PR blitz a couple of weeks ago, and being quite possibly the greatest fringe country music blog in the history of the internets to write about music and be named after a Drive-By Truckers song, it was only a matter of time before I received the email with the lead single, "The Common Ones", from their latest effort, Hallelujahland , attached. As I've said before, I try and read every PR email I get (this gets harder and [...]

Come on now, you knew I was gonna write about a new Legendary Shack Shakers release eventually, right? I am, admittedly, late getting to this, the Shack Shakers' 5th studio effort (and first of the post-David Lee era), but please don't take that as a sign that Agridustrial is a bad album. 'Cause it's exactly the opposite. The Shack Shakers closed out their Tentshow Trilogy, as well as their relationship with Yep Roc, back in 2007 with what I thought was their best effort to date, Swampblood . The band [...]
There's a whole lot of music going on in Atlanta this weekend. Quintron, Artlantis...The Screwed Anthologies... Decisions, decision...
Interesting is the music that can truly portray a murderous romp through an old western town. When thinking of the outlaws that created a musical accompaniment to the heinous crimes committed, only the coolest bluegrass/country and punk rockers come to mind. Th' Legendary Shack Shakers , hell's house band, wrapped up an ambitious musical trilogy of side-shows, circus tents, and funerals just a few years back and are now hot off the release of their newest freakish effort, Agri-dustrial . The short but explosive 40-minute album takes listeners on a dark journey filled with unrestrained chaos that [...]

Okay. Are you PSYCHED for the WEEKEND?! Snow days, Valentine's Day, President's Day... heck, just any old Friday is cause for celebration. For awesome music. Free music. Even in the face of Google shutting down music blogs without warning (aka #Musicblogocide2k10 ), we here at EAR FARM feel it's high time for another dose of 100 percent free and legal tunes (we think) from our inboxes direct to your ears. Seriously, we're calling these 100 percent free and legal tunes because they're sent to us by record labels and bands themselves with the [...]
Photo by Jessica WilkesThe Legendary Shack Shakers have been grinding it out in grimy joints and sweaty dives for years, their brand of fierce rockabilly hopped up on kilos of hard-core energy and punk stamina.Looking at the new promo photos, it would appear that the quartet is now on the straight-and-narrow. Despite the tucked-in shirts and reserved poise, Agridustrial, the band's sixth studio

Raucous Nashville rockers The Legendary Shack Shakers have announced the release of their new album. Agrindustrial will be the seventh full length from the band that features former Jesus Lizard axeman Duane Denison. The record hits stores on April 13th. Here is a look at the track listing for the album: Melungeon Melody Sin Eater Sugar Baby Nightride Dixie Iron Fist Two Tickets To Hell God

If you're a guy reading this I encourage you not to play this song for your significant other/spouse. If she is anything like mine this will be a complete turnoff. The Legendary Shack Shakers are not afraid to make a ruckus. Their brand of punk infused hillbilly blues has even been taken up a notch on this new record with the presence of a new guitarist and percussion provided by a blacksmith's forge. The new album is called Agridustrial and is purported to be fairly political but I think a lot [...]

Legendary bad-asses, Those Legendary Shackshakers came to town last month to drop some snot, pubes and rock and roll on their loyal following. I hadn't written about the show yet cause, really, there's nothing new to write about. I've seen so many LSS shows and I've written about so many LSS shows here on 9b that it's starting to feel like I'm just writing the same review over and over. This show was like the others (awesome), if anything, it was a little tamer than shows past. The my friend, James Zambon , [...]
Man, it's been a while since we had a To Do and, I ain't gonna lie, the break has been nice. Having done one to two shows a week for a month plus, I was ready for some time off. Now having had said time off, I need to go to a fucking show. Lucky for me and the rest of you Tampa/St. Pete-ians, we got a weekend loaded with the awesome. So let's go through it: Thursday @ New World: The Woodsboss [...]
Police have issued an arrest warrant for Joshua Wilkes, lead vocalist of the Legendary Shack Shakers. The arrest warrant charges Wilkes with exposing his genitals to hundreds of teens and adults in the audience. The venue was a nonprofit facility in downtown Nashville with three stages, an indoor skate park, and a coffee bar. A Rocketown representative stated "we are all treating this as a very serious criminal matter." The band claims that it is a mass hallucination brought on by ergot in the sacramental wine. [...]
