Nach zwei Alben schon eine "the Best of" Platte ??? Finally someone in the press gets it. This from The Guardian:The Libertines rule, OK? Released five years ago this month, the Libertines' debut album Up the Bracket remains the most influential and important British album since its release. Maybe of the decade, even. It's not the best, but in terms of cultural impact it has yet to be surpassed. Which is surprising, but not that surprising

This morning I hopped a plane to New York City for a long weekend visiting three of my best friends from the year I studied abroad in Florence, Italy. I am ridiculously excited. After all those months of spending ridiculous amounts of time together with these gals, seeing mind-boggling beauty and pushing our tenuous edges through hesitant Italian speaking, train rides all over Europe, lots of carbs and gelato and Michelangelo, and questionable Italian dance moves in sweaty clubs, we all went back to our respective lives across the country and the world. The four of us saw [...]

Time For Heroes They're just narcissists/Well wouldn't it be nice to be Dorian Gray?/Just for a day/They're just narcissists/Oh, what's so great to be Dorian Gray?/Every day? 2000'li yılların rock patlamasında fitili ateşleyen the Strokes'a İngiltere'den gelen gürültülü bir cevaptı the Libertines. Eski Suede gitaristi Bernard Butler'ın keşfedip, the Clash mirası Mick Jones'a teslim ettiği grubun başını çeken Pete Doherty ve Carl Barat arasında süregitmiş kavgalar, uyumsuzluklar ile medya onlara parsellenmişti. Sevgi-nefret çekimiyle (aralarındaki ilişki, [...]

Fresh from a rehab stint, Pete Doherty spoke to the BBC 6Music and admitted he wasn't sure if a clean and sober lifestyle was for him. Although he described himself as "healthy, physically," he said his drug intake might go back to it's pre-rehab levels. "I'm healthy, physically, a bit wobbly. I'm not sure about complete abstinence [from drugs]. But it's a 12 step philosophy. It's one day at a time I suppose." In the form of months, please give us your guess as to how long Pete has to [...]

Thank you to MW's homeboy Rubbersoul for introducing me to the Fiery Furnaces; you were right, I love the new disc. I've been too busy playing World's Scariest Police Chases (which aren't scary but at least there's the American guy who does the voiceovers on the show!) to notice that an unreleased Libertines track surfaced a couple of days ago. Seriously though, I was desperately trying to complete levels such as "Gangbanger Deathmatch" and "Bus Driver Gone Bad". Pity I couldn't save anything as it's only a Playstation 1 game. Anyways, so I was perusing thelibertines.org forum [ link ] earlier and noticed some thread about 'Eight Days [...]

It's kinda Guest Post Central around here lately with a few fine folks taking my place for a day. This is a very good thing for you, the reader, because all my friends have excellent musical taste. Obviously. A few weeks ago I got a package from Chris out in North Carolina who made me not just one or two but SIX CDs full of genuine marvelousness that I am still digesting. Chris sends me some humid North Carolina greetings, and writes the following; " I often (morbidly) tell my wife Janet that if [...]
COOL SHIT ALERT! Saturday night at Philabuster's home court (ie: Medusa Lounge), the dudes from Bleached Black are presenting what projects to be one of the best nights of your entire year. Yes, the $3 PBR and shot specials will get you pissy. Yes, the Mongorock will get you shake-shakin' it. And yes, the staff/ownership of Medusa is hands-down the sexiest bunch of cocktailers in the tri-state area. On top of all that, you get the live US debut performance of Japanese hush-tronica outfit Colette Columbirch (pic'd). The 'Stamps home office has been resonating pretty [...]

Call me heartless all you want...but I love this... Andrew's Pick I have ranted and raved about my love for The Libertines on the world-wide-web-leading music blog TFD a couple of times before. They are no longer, but when they were around they were the best rock n roll band around. With the perfect combination of loud guitars and heroin, they stole my heart [...]

Ahhh Pete Doherty. Where would the music world be today without you? Actually, maybe that's not the right question to be asking. Anyways, before Pete's massive drug addiction effectively ended his original band The Libertines (pretty much), they did release an EP with a few live cuts on it recorded in Brixton back in June of 2004. Those tracks put on display the band's awesome performances and the wild abandon in which Pete carried himself on stage (and, presumably, off stage). It's crazy and cool stuff to hear and makes me long to see The Libertines live again. I don't [...]

Variation Two of A Prelude to Interpol's Our Love To Admire : No Trendy Réchauffé (see yesterday's post for the (cranky) introduction). [ré·chauf·fé -- n. 1. Warmed leftover food; 2.Old material reworked or rehashed. [French, past participle of réchauffer, to reheat, warm over, from Old French rechaufer : re- , re- + echaufer , to warm (from Vulgar Latin *excalefāre : Latin ex- , intensive pref.; see ex- + Latin calefacere , to [...]

The entire top 50 is incredibly unsurprising but hey, what would NME be if not predictable? Below is the Top 10. Head over to NME.com to see the rest. 1. Oasis - 'Live Forever' 2. I know I've posted about The Libertines before, but a couple of days ago a little bit of rock history was made. It has already been described as the reunion of the decade: Pete Doherty and Carl Barat performing together again !! Considering the acrimonious nature of their split, this is all the more welcome news. For those who don't know, The Libertines were the most influential band of the decade (so far) in Britain, and a major catalyst for the current explosion of rock 'n' roll there (along with American band and Johnjohn favourite The [...]
Thanks to an NME blog created for Pete Doherty's show at Hackney Empire last night, you too can experience the glorious reunion of Pete and his former Libertine soulmate, Carl Barat. Previously: GLONO Video with Dirty Pretty Things; What...

No, we can't believe it either. Here's some more info on the toy plus comments from anti-drug campaigners, via ContactMusic: "Makers of a Pete Doherty doll have been slammed by anti-drugs campaigners for glorifying illegal drug use. More Barred than Barbie, the doll of the former Libertines frontman features a charming little crack-pipe which lights up when pressed to the mini Pete's lips along with other accessories such as cigarettes, a miniature guitar and a syringe. The 28-year-old musician, currently dating long-term girlfriend and supermodel Kate Moss, has had a well-publicised history of drug troubles with [...]
