Go - Feast Movable From cool baristi to chefs preparing the most succulent beef in the world, refined ancient customs to outrageous flaunting of luxury goods, the city of Kobe has it all. Plus it's got the Disques Dessinee vinyl store with stuff like this pretty perfect Go track. There's something incredibly eerie about these images. In a lot of ways, a project like this blurs the lines between art and photojournalism as well. Stumbling upon an abandoned psychiatric hospital, artist David Maisel found himself fascinated by what he saw, finding a tragic beauty in the surroundings. Most intriguing to him though, were these aging copper canisters, which contained the ashes of thousands of former patients, left unclaimed after their deaths between 1883 and the 1970s, when the hospital closed its doors. Capturing shots not only of the canisters, but also of the hospital and various found [...]

Steve Gray - Private Thoughts This is something I pulled from an unexpectadley dynamite comp 'Color Climax - Porn Music From the Library', I couldn't maintain my flow with this cosmic funk groove going on in the background. Steve Gray was the go-to guy on the keys for Quincy Jones, Henry Mancini, Peggy Lee, John Barry and Sammy Davis Jr. so chances are you've heard his playing.

Janko Nilovic - Black Swan Lake You may have heard Janko somewhere before and not realised it, when his songs are funk they're killer and ripe for ripping and sampling . If I was lazy (you know I am), I'd say he was like a extra prolific Polish David Axelrod and be completely wrong (I usually am). This is a cut from his essential Soul Impressions LP, there are too many great bits to sample and cut from this blaxploitation cop car chase funk.

Oh man, the endless treasures of vintage Library music. You have to discard some chaff, but the effort yields precious rewards. This one should soundtrack some sort of futuristic bloodsport competition. Or a videogame version of it. Or whatever wild stuff you do this weekend. Gerard Gesina - Big Green Espace

Tweet It's not so hard to get into the studio these days: with the price of professional recording equipment at a record low, it is easier than ever for musicians to craft, and find an audience for, their sounds. There is a downside: with a glus of music to listen to, listener attention spans are shorter than ever. In today's world, both tremendous marketing buzz and overwhelming critical acclaim too often translate into a "alright, I'll give it a shot" click into mediafire and a scrobbled [...]

Right now the day is lovely, breezy and cool at 77°, but there is a thunder and lightning storm advisory for this afternoon and tonight with damaging winds expected. I'll be lowering my umbrellas before the wind takes them, and they become extras for The Wizard of Oz. Summer storms are often mighty. This is one of my what in the heck can I talk about days when my muses are taking care of their own business at my expense. Tonight I am meeting my nephew for dinner. We're doing Mexican. I have a play on Wednesday, Sherlock [...]

Words by Brendan The holiday weekend has come and gone. You're back from wherever you went to stand around a grill and drink beer with those relatives you only see twice a year. Or maybe you've been in town all along and you're still catching up on lost sleep from a hectic weekend (like me). Whatever your status, it's back to the summer concert season this weekend, and you've got plenty of options coming up in the next few days. Garage rock at the 31st Street Pub, folk rock at the Carnegie Museum, our [...]

Does anyone have any information as to what library this is? I used the new search by photo feature on Google Images and it's telling me this is Yale University's Bienecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. If that's the case and I went to Yale, I would spend every minute of my college days curled up on one of those couches. [via uniquedaily ] Tweet
Some call me a "control-freak". I admit I manage my music collection carefully, where it's possible.

let's get into this thing . . Ringo Deathstarr- So High . . . . . I've been ecstatically kicking Colour Trip around since Ringo Deathstarr put it out (Finally!) in february. Shoegaze with energy and they're from Austin...enough said. [...]
Seth Godin offers some thoughts : The next library is a place, still. A place where people come together to do co-working and coordinate and invent projects worth working on together. Aided by a librarian who understands the Mesh , a librarian who can bring domain knowledge and people knowledge and access to information to bear. The next library is a house for the librarian with the guts to invite kids in to teach them how to get better grades while doing less grunt work. And to teach them how to use a soldering [...]

Andrew Karnavas is a busy man. But unlike the bands recently signed to outfits like New West and ZenHill, Karnavas is pushing ahead in DIY mode. "Yeah, I'm still just doing everything myself, it'... Continue reading "Andrew Karnavas' Andyroo To Tour Libraries, Kids' Museums" >

2011 has already been a trying year for Hip-Hop, with controversy piled over top outrage surmounted by confusion, only to all overshadow the handful yet memorable pieces of music we laid claim to. Goodbye to the days where the musician created a celebrity. Hello to the fully visualized dawn where the more outrageous, bizarre or inconspicuously wack you are the better your chances are to skip a few steps and find yourself in a graduating class typically reserved for the talented. It's a clear cut sign of the times when even the [...]

Download: Roger Roger - Rugbymen There's a Johnny Trunk documentary on Radio 4 in a couple of hours (sure it'll be on iPlayer later if you miss it) and in anticipation I've been digging through my virtual vaults and getting myself in the mood. Rugbymen by Roger Roger is taken from his sports based collection of tracks and is a wonderfully playful number; jazz breaks and big fat boingy drums paints a picture of large middle-class buffoons tossing a leather egg to one another, often cluttered like [...]
