Labor Day weekend is filled with musical adventures in the Bay Area... Including two of the very, very few worthwhile summer shed shows that seem to be timed out perfectly for the weather getting good. Here are the highlights: Thursday, September 2nd Jenny & Johnny, Sonny & The Sunsets, Farmer Dave Scherr at Great American [...]

We had talked about inditornica band, Geographer , a little while back when they sent us their Animal Shapes EP. We absolutely loved the entire EP and it even became a staple of the iPod for a while. Now the EP has officially been released, through Tricycle Records, and includes a special remix of "Kites" by the Limousines as well as a remix of "Paris" by Wallpaper. I highly recommend you buy this album if you are into that kind of music because it is definitely worth it, these guys [...]

I want a life that sizzles and pops and makes me laugh out loud. And I don’t want to get to the end, or to tomorrow, even, and realize that my life is a collection of meetings and pop cans and errands and receipts and dirty dishes. I want to eat cold tangerines, and sing out loud in the car with the windows open, and wear pink shoes, and stay up all night laughing, and paint my walls the exact color of the sky right now. I want to sleep hard on clean white sheets, and throw parties, and eat [...]

The title of this kinda says it all. The Limousines are part of that new electro alt-pop wave of artists that turn out tongue-and-cheek tunes that make you wanna dance. "The kids are disco dancing. They're tired of Rock N Roll. Don't bother telling them that drum machine ain't got not soul." I don't have the MP3 for this but below is the download for their other single, the brilliant "Very Busy People" (one of my favorite songs). A fantasmical ode to the way our generation wastes our precious [...]

Get some insight on Eric and Arjun as well as a review of the sold out Noise Pop show at Slims with The Limousines.

Foreign Born Believe it or not, this was my first Noise Pop Festival . Last year I worked through the whole thing and wasn’t really too happy about that. Weird hours will do that to you. Anyways, I kicked off my experience with the pre-party at the California Academy of Science. Not a huge fan of The Frail but a huge fan of science, so I got to geek out with some friends about both music and the Late Cretaceous period. Har Mar [...]
The Limousines The Limousines were already on stage when I walked in a bit late. The first thought that popped into my head was “this is going to be boring, because the music was very bland." First impressions though are a dangerous thing because they are often way off the mark. After less than a minute, [...]

Butterfly Bones - "xoxo" Due to a boppingly unmissable Noise Pop Happy Hour at Benders and a wicked long line at (sold-out!) Slim's, I unfortunately missed Battlehooch's set at the Wallpaper. / Limousines co-headlined show Friday night, but Butterfly Bones wasted no time in cheering me up. The electro-pop-rock quartet have definitely been coming up in the San Francisco scene. According to some cursory research and the look on the guys' faces, they'd never played a venue the size of Slim's before. Still, the band [...]

The Limousines While I was planning on Atlas Sound (which turned into Four Tet instead) that night, I figured I'd pay a visit to Slim's to catch our friends, The Limousines . The duo was joined by dredg drummer Dino Campanella, which added a nice touch to the already dance worthy, free spirited style of The Limos. It's become clear the band has developed a unique identity and have matured since my first time seeing them live. The new songs sound thrillingly eclectic, endlessly colourful and never predictable. Good [...]
With the Atlantic portion of the United States about to get bombarded by a giant blizzard, now seems like an appropriate time to run this giveaway. In a few weeks, the beautiful San Francisco will play host to the 18th annual Noise Pop festival. Set to take place from February 23rd - March 1st, this year's festivities feature the likes of The Magnetic Fields, Yoko Ono, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Fields, Atlas Sound, Rogue Wave, Deerhoof, Free Energy, and others, as well as equally impressive lineup of film screenings and art exhibitions. In celebration of [...]

As we announced a few days ago , the initial line-up for Noise Pop 2010 has been announced. Although badges went on sale Wednesday, single show tickets don't go on sale until tomorrow at noon. However, we have a pair of tickets for two shows happening during the festival on Friday, February 26th for some lucky readers. Four Tet with Nathan Fake @ The Independent Four Tet - "Love Cry" [...]
It seems like a pretty sweet line-up, in fact, it's near perfect. I'm having a pretty hard time trying to figure out who I should see (wait until SXSW...ugh!). I'm happy to see our friends The Limousines on there, John Vanderslice, Mark Kozelek, and Atlas Sound have me pretty much sold right now. Plus double Magnetic Fields shows. One at Oakland's Fox Theater and another at the Herbst Theater. Here's the full list of performers; Magnetic Fields Rogue Wave Harlem Japanese Motors Foreign Born [...]
