Today, the world lost a science fiction icon as groundbreaking author Ray Bradbury passed away at age 91. Nearly every teenager has read his short novel Fahrenheit 451 (and rightly so!), and his countless award-winning stories, some of which comprised the sci-fi classics The Martian Chronicles and The Illustrated Man , continue to impact writers of all genres. The influence of his stories and novels spreads far beyond books, though, as his narratives, characters and ideas pervade movies and even music as well. Artists who cite or credit Bradbury include Pixies' Frank Black, [...]
This year Jagermeister put together a tour featuring some of today's best indie rock bands. The Jagermeister Tour recently made it's stop at The Fox Theater in Pomona to put on its biggest show to date.

Memoryhouse - Denver, CO - 3/5/12 credit: portalsmusic.com There is always good music to be heard somewhere. If you're in the LA area this weekend, consider these recommendations. Friday, May 4th - Portugal. The Man , The Lonely Forest @ [...]
Another week of rock and roll... Because sleep is totally overrated. Thursday, May 3rd Sophie Barker (of Zero 7) at Red Devil Lounge Sia may have been the first solo artist to break out of Zero 7, but Sophia Barker is more than ready to step up to the plate. She sang lead on what is [...]

As part of a Jagermeister Music Tour, Alaska's Portugal. The Man rolled into a sold-out Music Hall of Williamsburg on a balmy April evening. The hall is ideal, a shallow room with a wide stage, there are huge baubles draped across it and out over the crowd. There's an upstairs bar, a downstairs bar, balconies each side and plenty of room for just hanging out before the gig as well as a big merch area where every album by the band was on sale on vinyl and cd. The crowd pour in slowly during the catchy jangle [...]

By Michel Dussack The Jagermeister Music Tour is traditionally comprised of hard rock and metal acts, though the Spring 2012 lineup threw everyone off when it was announced that Portugal. The Man would be headlining. Even more surprising was the size of the venues they were playing – the New York stop took place at the Music Hall of Williamsburg, a venue six times smaller than when I saw the band at Terminal 5 exactly six months prior. First up ...

Chicago - Here’s how, in my mind, Chicago-based foursome Minor Characters came up with their onstage look for tonight’s Portugal. The Man concert: Band-member #1: “So what’s our hook going to be for this show gentlemen? We need something to make us pop.” Band-member #2: “How about we wear three piece suits, slick our hair back and out-dress everyone within a ten mile radius of us?” Band-member #1: “Done.” Minor Characters not only sounded great, but they were sporting the kind of outfits that make a girl’s heart flutter. [...]
I knew nothing of Lonely Forest before they took the stage on Sunday. In a way that was a blessing, because I went in with no expectations or prejudices. Lonely Forest are a strong, bombastic pop group that was a fantastic choice to open for Portugal. The Man. I feel like there was a huge [...]
The Lonely Forest are steadily touring and establishing themselves as representing the new Seattle sound outside of Seattle, and is as close to the status of "all-ages institution" in Seattle as anyone. TLF continue to grow their local legend this weekend by going big with the Seattle Rock Orchestra. Hard to believe I was buying [...]

On Wednesday, Anna Coogan, Sam Russell, and Joy Mills are all at Columbia City Theater. There are plenty questionable things going on at the annual Afentra's VD Party at the Midland Theatre in Kansas City. Cock Ring Toss with inflatable penises (penii?), Spin the Bottle, Unhook the Bra Races and much more. Between the pot smoke and the borderline rape moves, you could almost forget to watch the bands. Almost. Fortunately, the one non-questionable thing about VD Party is that there is going to be good music, good enough to keep your eyes on the stage and off the sketchier behaviors of the audience. This year's Buzz VD Party featured Middle Class Rut with Chain [...]

Responsible for showing the world The Globes , Brite Futures , The Lonely Forest , and many other KEXP favorites, EMP’s Sound Off! competition is a must know – especially if you live in the PNW. Now in its eleventh year, Sound Off! is an underage “battle of the bands” of sorts. Selecting some of the most promising music from the 21 and younger crowd from the PNW, 12 bands are judged on a set of live music at Seattle’s EMP. The 12 bands are split into three semi-final rounds where they compete for the [...]
