I am publishing this, then driving to Portland. This is normally a 5-6 hour drive, but being the biggest travel day of the year, it will be double that. Thank God for other people's podcasts. *Update 12:00 - Ok, somehow, the drive only took 6 hours. How? I've seriously done that drive, like, 10 times, on Thanksgiving Eve, and it's been Hell on Earth, all the way through Washington. Did they fix Seattle? Or is unemployment so high that enough people had the freedom to do their traveling before today, leaving the roads unclogged for me? [...]
The Lonely Forest ::: photo by Abbey Simmons Just a word to the wise...don't stuff yourself on Turkey-Day left overs on November 27th, lest you miss a stellar all local line-up at the Showbox. The Lonely Forest just confirmed the line-up for their first headlining show at The Showbox and what a line-up it is: The [...]
Dead Confederate ::: Photo by Abbey Simmons Day Three of Bumbershoot 2009 was characterized by rain. A whole lot of it. Macklemore's first show of the day on the Fisher Green Stage met the brunt of it, yet a thick contingent of fans kept their hands raised and swaying, oblivious to the wet. Even with the [...]

The Moondoggies ::: photo by Abbey Simmons One of the most pleasant surprises of my entire Bumbershoot weekend, was when John Van Deusen of the Lonely Forest announced that the band would be headlining the Showbox the day after Thanksgiving this year. A quick glance at the Showbox at the Market Calendar reveals that the Lonely Forest [...]

While I'm not sure how much of it can be attributed directly, having great luck with the ferries this weekend for Doe Bay Fest started and ended our trips if fine fashion. The weather was great, the lineup was perfect (capped by The Long Winters fine evening performance), and the crowd was laid back. Kids were played near the stage while band after band played with the great outdoor backdrop at Doe Bay. There was some worry that growing the festival too fast would prove too much for the resort to handle, but it really was the perfect [...]

The idea of rock bands being stylistically stuck in the 90s does not, at this point in my life, appeal to me, but when I was recently introduced to The Lonely Forest, I found a notable exception to my rule. The Seattle-area natives released a very solid album earlier this year, provocatively entitled We Sing the Body Electric , a record that brings to mind the alternative rock of a decade (or so) ago blended with more modern 'indie' influences as well as bits of classic rock and psychedelia. The result is a dynamic and exciting set of fifteen [...]
Seattle summers are increasingly filled with great musical festivals/events, so congrats to the newest kid on the Block for beating the big guys on local line-ups. Best local line up of the summer? Not CHBP. Not Georgetown. Not even Bumbershoot. It's the 2nd Annual Doe Bay Music Festival, which charmingly isn't held on the Block [...]

The Lonely Forest: Chris Walla loves this band ::: photo by Abbey Chris Walla and Nick Harmer of Death Cab for Cutie recently sat down and chatted with CNN about music. The Lonely Forest CD Release Show ::: photo by Abbey I have to admit, not all my April albums are equal. For every time I listened to any other album, I probably listened to The Lonely Forest and Local Natives albums twice. I spent a lot of time with both albums in April, especially The Lonely Forest's We [...]
A result of changing speech cadences, we've taken to saying "new" and then a noun. It indicates pleasure. It indicates approval. Someone plays a song you like. You say: New band. New song. The rough translation is: I enjoy this and would like to hear more. New song. This new way of talking (new talking) is almost complete owed to the marbled-mouthed, Midwestern speech patterns of one of our most

Lonely Forest Choir ::: Photo by Josh Most of the time, the shows I attend at the Vera Project are pretty mellow affairs, but from the second I walked in the door I knew this was not going to be one of those nights. As we walked down the stairs to main floor, the Lonely Forest front-man Jon Van Deusen intercepted us with high fives and a warm welcome before bouncing off to attend to other details of the what looked to be an already successful, at least attendance-wise, evening. The Globes already were [...]

Who : The Lonely Forest from the small town of Anacortes, WA. What : Ah, the good stuff that ends up in my inbox. Doing my best to keep my ears open, hopefully I won't miss too many bands like The Lonely Forest . Seems as if a ton of people already know about this group as they have press from everywhere. They've been doing some festivals, played sessions at KEXP, and shared the stage with bands like Mates of State , Viva Voce and The Thermals . Okay, [...]
Wow there was a lot to choose from this weekend, including just hanging out in your friend's back yard pondering how to make it to all the shows happening this summer (yay warm weather tour season!). By the looks of Amelia Gyde's photos from Friday's Lonely Forest / New Faces show at Vera... that *might* have been the place to be Friday night. It also sounds like Bloc Party was stellar on Saturday night and last night, Redwood Plan tore it up at the Crocodile with Ida Maria. What did you see / do this weekend? [...]
