The middle of fall, nothing like it. It is also a huge weekend for shows in the area. Quite a few big names are rolling through the area and pulling multiple city stops. Here's what to check out. The Pacific northwest has produce numerous indie acts. One of the biggest, The Decemberists are playing two shows this weekend with fellow Portlanders Loch Lomond . You can catch them at the Electric Factory Friday and Rams Head Live in Baltimore Saturday. mp3: The Decemberists - [...]

Seeing The Lonely H after a six months, most of which the band has been on the road, living the life of a traveling touring band - was like witnessing an almost entirely new band. The licks were tighter than ever, the voices more trained, and the stage presence bigger and better than before. The H also played a number of new songs they've written on the road, most of which had a serious Thin Lizzy vibe. As always, we're looking forward to hear and see what comes nexts from these fellas. The Lonely H Genre: Indie/Rock From: Port Angeles, Washington, US The Lonely H are a quartet of young Americans with bags packed full of off kilter garage, English blues, West Coast psychedelia and good old fashioned souther fried classic rock. With their filthy shotgun bass, relentless guitar riffs and delightfully discordant vocals that sound like they've been dredged from the bottom of [...]

thanks for the add. now i will go clutter your comments. ha! Juviley [New York, NY] - ultra fragile sensitive vocals are as gentle as the acoustic guitar. neither one is assertive enough to overpower the other and the two parts make for one sleepy sunny raindrop soaked morning. On "It Comes to this" he's a turtle looking out of his shell, backed by light percussion, extra guitar and a more assertive voice. There's some trouble with the high notes though. uh oh spaghetti [...]

As I pull open the lid on the Licorice Pizza mailbox, it dawns on me that I've got to find some way to make this less burdensome and easier to read. The "mailbox" posts seem a little busy and unorganized, at least to me. So I'm going to try simplifying things, giving you some music, a very brief description of what/who the band is, then giving you a link to their respective site. That way, if you're interested, you can explore more on your own. And I'm not bogging things down so much. Moving on. ~~~~~ [...]
< > While it may not technically be October yet, the air outside is certainly starting to feel like it. So, whether you are excited for the change of seasons and feel like celebrating with a ton of great music, or if you are depressed about this and feel like drowning your sorrows in a beer garden, the 2007 Fremont Oktoberfest has it all. Featuring two different stages and three days, there is a surprising amount of good local music. Saturday brings with it an excellent array of performers, almost all [...]

Jenna got me into this band . The Lonely H play American throwback rock with some seriously Kings of Leon-esque vocals. They released their first album 'Kick Upstairs' last year, when most of the band were just 16 years old. Their second album 'Hair' has just been released in the US. Amazingly, they haven't graduated from high school yet. And probably won't need to by the sound of their tracks, one of which I've posted below. The Meal mp3

It is becoming increasingly difficult to find an actively successful band that originated in high school. With the limited social environment, educational pressures, and repetitive daily tasks, quality songwriting is rare to come by in students who have not yet reached college. Sure, every modern-day high school has its local music scene with kids in tight jeans and eyeshadow performing the latest gut-wrenching emo hits and, yeah, those types are easy to find. But that is hardly quality. Hell, that is not even worth the price of free admission alone. It is usually not until college where individuals blossom into [...]
