Wait what, you love the Long Blondes ? Me too! Totally disappointed they didn't come to your town? Me too! Bummed nobody noticed the two dates they did play because it was Lollapaloozer weekend? Yeah, yo tambien. Maybe this'll soften the pain: a bunch of demos I stumbled upon that I'd never heard before and thought you'd love too. Here's to hoping they stay a bit longer in the US next time. A Knife for the Girls Madame Ray [...]

I've had a week now of milking Summer Sundae to the max for blogging purposes, and here's one more. BBC 6 Music were the main media partners of the festival, so naturally they broadcasted quite a bit of live music from the festival. So thanks to them, here are a few choice 'live at Summer Sundae' tracks from some of the bands I saw over the weekend. Download: Calexico - El Picador Download: The Proclaimers - I'm on My Way [...]

A soggy wet Sunday morning meant an escape from the campsite to seek refuge in a dodgy city centre caff (the only thing open at 10:30am). But it gave us the chance to linger over breakfast and read the papers. The musical action re-started for me halfway through The Long Blondes' set â€" actually with their ace single Weekend Without Makeup , which is particularly appealing Pulp-esque number (how appropriate for a band from Sheffield). But that's about as good as they get really. They're a band who probably look better than they actually are, though set [...]
In recognition of British authorities thwarting a major terrorist attack this morning, here are some fresh tunes from our friends in the United Kingdom. Listen: Bromhead's Jacket - What If's and Maybe's The Pigeon Detectives - I'm Not Sorry The Fratellis - Got Ma Nuts From A Hippy (demo) Klaxons - Atlantis To Interzone The Long Blondes - Big Infatuation Dogs - Piranhas Dirty Pretty Things - If

photos by Devon Banks "People say I'm being perverse on purpose..." were the first words cooed by Kate Jackson, the enchanting lead singer for our very favorite British imports, the Long Blondes. That the line's home should be a weeks old b-side, "Fulwood Babylon," with no Stateside or digital release in site, and that said obscurity should be the opening offering of the band's long awaited New York City return, makes the accusation understandable. A strong song of course, immediately charming and unconventional. Its stick heavy percussion and breathy "girls gone [...]

Photo by Devon Banks Despite the abject silence regarding the Long Blondes on the ‘nets (correlative to the band’s might), it was immediately obvious that the crowd assembling for the Blondes at the Knitting Factory was not just out trolling for low-cost indie rock (at $10 per head and sweltering NYC air, this occurs often). Likewise, the concertgoers were not to be heckled into some spontaneous dance party the likes of which haven’t been seen (thankfully) since the rave scene in Matrix: Reloaded . But the Long Blondes produce [...]

Friday night, semi-local Human Television are back at The Khyber, along with support from very local Asteroid #4. HTV's last Khyber show was the absolute tits. And you all like tits, don't you? I rest my case...
Although categorized as new-wave/post-punk revivalists, the Sheffield, UK-based Long Blondes ' differ their delivery from song to song — sometimes mimicking the uninhibited punk exuberance of the Slits, and other times sounding as sweet as anything Phil Spector ever produced. Sexpot lead singer Kate Jackson has arguably one of the best voices in rock, though most of her unapologetically girly, femme fatale lyrics actually come from male bandmate Dorian Cox. Here is a wonderful Erol Alkan b-side: Long Blondes - Fulwood Babylon This one makes me ridiculously happy: Long Blondes - Giddy [...]
Snowfight in the City Centre, "No Light Left" The Long Blondes, "Fulwood Babylon" I used to think of downloading as the last refuge of the digitally retarded, but my habits in consumption seem to have brought me to a point where I either nut up and buy a turntable (or as I like to think of it, a one-way ticket to debtor's prison) or grit my teeth and start paying for ones and zeroes. Frankly, I'm still not all that comfortable with the situation - when you've had hard drives die the [...]

'Tis the summer of my discontent. New York is evenly split between two wholly objectionable personalities: Sweaty and rainy. Long no-work weekends have come and gone, making the resulting week feel endless in comparison (Can I remind you that it's only fucking Tuesday?). Plus, musically, it's like we're in a bit of a lull. Now, I don't expect those blissful people not tethered to the whims of the blog world to think so. There were numerous notable records released only today. But since we always have to be so goddamned ahead of everything, most of [...]

Once again MS.com seeks to mine tracks from the best albums, and rescue tracks from questionable ones, in service of creating an unstoppable time capsule of a season's worth of music. Spring time had its hits and its misses, but there was good to be had, friends. Let's take a second, as rainclouds and crippling humidity ruin our lives to remember the beautiful days we once loved and the soundtrack filling our ear buds as we loved them. We're taking a few days off to enjoy the extended weekend, celebrate our break up [...]
I've taken it upon myself to be at the fore front of US blog reporting about UK pop group, the Long Blondes. Ambitious, I know. So today, when Pitchfork dropped some not entirely new news about the LB's upcoming Rough Trade single, but with added tidbits about b-sides and iTunes availbility, I was not about to take it lying down. Luckily, they neglected to mention that a video for the new track, "Weekend Without Makeup" was completed and available for YouTubage. the Long Blondes - "Weekend [...]
I think I might have... Anyway, short note to, uh, note that the LB gang will be rolling into town this July to bask in the unbridled non judgmental warmth notorious among NYC indie rock concert goers. They'll do great. Pitchfork recently divulged that the band will come all the way to the States for July 28th gig at Don Hill's, and a follow up at Making Time in Philly on the 29th before running coyly back to Europe leaving us more confused about their affections than ever. The Friday night Don [...]

The Long Blondes have signed to Rough Trade Records in the UK and are preparing to release "Weekend Without Makeup", their first single for the revered label, on June 19th. Our favorite fashionplates remain on the uber hip What's Your Rupture? imprint in the states, but no word yet on whether the single will have a domestic release. As previously noted, you can listen to a truncated demo version of the song streaming on MySpace, here . Even better is [...]
