Things are almost complete with the movie. Director Amy Grill has been immersed in the project for nearly 3 years. She writes "Man, I’ll tell you what – I feel SO much closer to all the characters in the film, like I’ve spent the last 3 years with them, but its all mostly a manufactured, caged expeirence that exists in the footage and in the world of the footage. Very bizarre making a film." No doubt about that. Keep an eye on the sQuare productions email list (to the right) for an [...]

"look at us, we used to rip off the fall. we rip off eno now, and sing like jerry hall." - the long blondes maybe if i had noticed the changes on the long blondes's myspace page, "couples" would have been less of a surprise. the new sleek black background, the quote above, the "new wave / idol / pop" description - i should have expected a different kind of band from the one that wrote my superfave someone to drive you home . but, really, i [...]

Check out the new review of Saturna's Some Delicious Enemy in Twangville . Todd says, "Hints of BRMC, The Tender Idols and Primal Scream abound on Saturna’s new album Some Delicious Enemy . Lush guitars, delay and feedback mixed with pulsing drums make the Portland, Oregon band a great find for fans of Brit-Pop." Thanks to Indie Dance Floor for including an mp3 of Saturna's Pop Rocks along with amazing songs from Goldfrapp, Nick Cave, The Long Blondes, Cut Copy and tons more.

Photo Curtesy of Chris Proud I have been listening to a few albums lately which have all been very different form each other. You probably won’t enjoy every thing below but you might find some thing within the bunch. I am not really in the mood to write much so I will keep it short. Scenario Rock - Histrionics Like many others I first heard of "Scenario Rock" through the brilliant remix Justice did a few years ago now. I did [...]

The Long Blondes - Guilt(Pantha Du Prince remix)

Kompliment! LEI : ok, la prossima volta . LUI : grazie per avermi usato. We love Agyness Deyn, we do not love her new song. Songs by British supermodels always suck. Thankfully, songs about British supermodels are reliably awesome.

(Mason Jennings) Good news, everyone: Your favorite pretentious internet writer has found himself some employment. The bad news? Uh, MFR hasn't exactly been a hotbed of breaking news. As if it ever was. HA! However, since I have some time off before I start my new job on Monday, I thought I would take the time to make a Catch-Up Playlist of all the tracks that have broken since I started a brief temp job last Thursday (as well as some others that have been sitting on my desktop for a long, long time). There's going to be [...]

So I listened to No Age's Nouns while I was at work last night, and I must not understand this album's appeal at all or something, because it just isn't doing anything for me. It's just a lot of noisy guitars and drums, but i'm definitely no critic, so what do I know? Anyways, lots of other releases this week that I can wholeheartedly recommend which include Elvis Costello's new album Momofuku , Pattern Is Movement's All Together , and Lykke Li's Little Bit [...]
A gutsy, experimental record which dares to be different, and proves that the Blondes are one of the more exciting groups around at the moment -- as close to synth-pop perfection as you're likely to get.
Hopefully, while everybody's waiting for DCFC's Narrow Stairs to tumble down, they won't miss all the terrific indie albums released this week from the likes of Tim Fite, Laura Gibson, No Age, The Republic Tigers, Shy Child, Matmos, The Long Blondes, Lykke Li, The Morning Benders, Elvis Costello, and so many others! (Check out Largehearted Boy's list for the dizzying array.) One of the most exciting releases this week has to be Firewaters' The Golden Hour , the first album from Tod A. after a three year sabbatical through the Middle East, [...]

( 2 votes, average: 2 out of 5) Loading ...

It’s another fine week of new releases with No Age’s Nouns leading the pack. If you only buy one album this week, hell this month for all its worth, make sure it’s this one. It is an absolutely amazing album and we thought that long before the P4K Review . If Nouns isn’t quite your cup of tea you can’t go wrong with Elvis Costello or Animal Collective either. If we’ve left anything off the list feel free to let us know in the comments section. [...]
