Today, two experts proved what almost everybody knew for over 30 years: Roger Jouret, better known as Plastic Betrand, did not sing the biggest Belgian punkhit ever: Ça plane pour moi . Bertrand's legal team isn't impressed, they released a statement saying that in a legal sense, their client is still considered to be the performer. The history of the song is shady. First off, their was Jet Boy, Jet Girl , sung by Elton Motello (aka Alan Ward , a sound engineer who'd record an enormous amount of hits). Story goes that [...]

It was the last day of what is considered the largest music festival in Canada. There were various acts playing the last day at Ottawa Bluesfest . From local favorites to a big name rock band which had people crowding the big stage on a Sunday night. These 12 days at Ottawa Bluesfest 2010 was beyond crazy. The acts that I saw were: Amos the Transparent Trevor Hall Ryan [...]

My favorite this week is from everyone's favorite Django-Reinhardt-inspired 80s cover band – The Lost Fingers . It's dedicated to Coconut, mostly because he can finally relate to the singer. Listen: The Lost Fingers ∞ You Should Me All Night Long Buy their stuff
Sarah Taylor from The Taylor Project recently welcomed an as-yet-unnamed baby woman into the VPS, I mean the world. This is a momentous event, yet I feel a small cringe of guilt. Prior to the happy event Sarah and I had gone to see AC/DC live in Melbourne to get in touch with our inner (or not so inner) bogan. More or less as a direct result, several of the presents at her baby shower had AC/DC
When The Darkness hit the scene in the 2003, critics began braying about the "hair metal revival." Well, as it turned out that "revival" was pretty much confined to one band and, really, to one song. Once college kids got sick of shredding their vocal chords trying to hit the "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" high notes, hair metal slunk back to 1984. This is probably a good thing, though it

The French-Canadian band love the 80s songs so much, they turned them into gyspy-jazz folk songs.
A little while back we told you about the high-profile list of musicians who will be providing the entertainment during next February's Winter Olympics games in Vancouver. If you don't remember and don't feel like clicking that link, then we'll tell you that those acts included the likes of Wilco, Feist, Broken Social Scene, K'Naan, Stars, Joel Plaskett, Steve Earle, Martha Wainwright, Blue Rodeo, Iron & Wine, Corb Lund, Ron Sexsmith, Joan As Policewoman, and Sun Kil Moon. Well, with the games scheduled to kick off in less than two months, we're beginning to get a [...]

I WOULD LINK A YOUTUBE VIDEO BUT IT IS ENVELOPED IN ADVERTISEMENTS. The Lost Fingers - Pump Up The Jam (Technotronic Cover) The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby Royksopp - Happy Up Here ++ 20 things about beer

Canadian trio The Lost Fingers named themselves after Django Reinhardt (who lost two fingers in a fire), and play his trademark manouche-style, or gypsy-jazz. But instead of composing their own songs, they do covers. Of 80s classics, like Pump Up the Jam . Or, on their new album, French(-ish) popgold like Lady Marmelade and the Je t'aime... moi non plus of the punk generation, Ça plane pour moi. It's an acquired taste (along the lines of Global Kryner , Hayseed Dixie and La Pompe Moderne ), but with the right amount of alcohol [...]

Canadian jazz swing trio The Lost Fingers from Quebec are into reconstructing middle-of-road Eighties floor fillers. It works at times, it sucks at times and listening to a full album of that stuff one session is a bad idea. Lost In The 80's contains the good ( Billie Jean , Tainted Love , Black Velvet ), the bad ( Touch Me ), and the ugly ( Incognito and - wait for it - Careless Whisper ). They have tried some AC/DC as well, but You Shook Me All Night Long [...]

Some remember him for his gloves and neverland, while others remember him for his dance moves. We here prefer to remember him for his music. We believe that at the core of his existence, music was his medium and he ruled airwaves like the legend he was. We have a collection of covers and remixes in tribute to The King Of Pop who lived a life not without controversy. Enjoy and don't go around breaking young girl's hearts. MP3 [...]

I don't usually take requests, and in the case of Michael Jackson, I wasn't planning to, either. After all, the death of the King of Pop has brought forth a veritable flood of tribute posts, many of them cover-laden (see below for links). And like many of you, though his history is entwined with my own, I haven't really listened to the man himself in over a decade. But now that the internet has recovered a bit from the news of MJ's passing, thanks to an extraordinarily generous donation of covers [...]

I try not to post on the same topic multiple times in a row, but after this weekend these won't really be relevant anymore, so it's now or never. A couple tunes for you that just arrived in the inbox, a gypsy lounge version of Billie Jean from Quebec's The Lost Fingers and a special tribute to the King Of Pop by the master of the remix Don Diablo . The Lost Fingers - Billie Jean Buy [...]

A large part of mourning the loss of a music industry legend is remembering and memorializing their career. Michael Jackson was an idol, the king of pop, and a talent who easily surpassed his peers. His songs are timeless and his memory will not fade with his passing. I wasn't going to send this out until next week but in light of the events of this week here is a cover of "Billie Jean" done by The Lost Fingers . I hope you enjoy. [...]

MP3: The Lost Fingers - "Billie Jean (Michael Jackson cover)" A lot of the news today has focused on the death of Michael Jackson. It's not surprising, but now we're getting bands doing takes on Jacko's songs. I suspect that we're going to be seeing a lot of Michael Jackson covers over the next few days. The first one (above) is from a band called The Lost Fingers. We'll keep a running log of other King of Pop covers right here .
