Last year Raleigh, NC's The Love Language snuck out an impressive self-titled debut full of fuzzed-out garage/pop. Merge Records took note, and the esteemed label is readying the band's follow up. Libraries drops July 13 and you can check out the infectious first single, "Heart To Tell", below. MP3 :: Heart To Tell (from Libraries . This year marks the most fun I've had yet putting together twenty songs to soundtrack your summer. The mix came together organically and joyfully while I did summery things, and the contentment I feel lately in these weeks is embedded in the picks. I declared on January 1 (when I did the Polar Bear Plunge ) that 2010 was going to be a flippin' fantastic year, full of new experiences - and it certainly is living up to the promise. Enjoy these as I have, play them at the BBQs to come, and burn them on CD [...]
In 2009 The Love Language released their self-titled debut album. The record was really a way for band mastermind Stuart McLamb to deal with a recent break-up. That album spawned the indie hit "Lalita", and turned a cathartic process into a going music concern. On July 13th the North Carolina band return with their follow-up to that album, Libraries. The change in sound is only slight between
Local Natives are a trademark example of a relative unknown indie outfit that first raised eyebrows at CMJ last fall and then completely exploded onto the map at South by Southwest in March. Now, they find themselves playing Sasquatch! and gearing up for a insanely long world tour. Specifically in regards to the latter, as you'll see below, Local Natives aren't set to end their current tour behind Gorilla Manor , their recently released debut full-length, until late October. In addition to two separate European legs, an appearance at [...]

I am quite possibly one of the biggest hopeless romantics in existence...just ask any of my friends. So having a band's name with the word "love" in it and a song title with the word "heart" in it...I just had to check out the track. The Love Language originates from Raleigh, North Carolina. Their second full-length album, Libraries , drops July 13, 2010. Listeners can actually stream the album in entirety before the album drop date on Merge Records . "Heart to Tell" is charming and catchy - definitely a great summer song! To find out more [...]
Nothing makes a blogger happier than hearing progress and growth in an artist they've previously championed. Today, I'm a happy blogger, with news that Giant Hand has been hard at work on new material with The Acorn 's Rolf Klausener and Pat Johnson. There's a short taster of what the new recordings sound like over at the new and improved Giant Hand website, along with a look at the record art work. Apparently titled Starting As People , Kirk Ramsay says that a digital download card for the EP will be available [...]

By now you've probably heard the big news that The Love Language will open two dates for Phoenix, including the big Koka Booth show tomorrow night in Cary. You probably won't see me at this show. While I'm mildly curious about Phoenix, I'm not $32.50 worth of curious. If someone can find me a couple of $10 tickets, I'm there. But I do congratulate LL on securing this spot. I have a feeling they'll be headlining that place before long. (Photo of Stu, above, by Jason Arthurs) And just to get you in the mood for [...]

The Love Language is by far and away the most underrated band on Merge Records. While well-deserved I'm kinda sick of Spoon and the Arcade Fire getting all the love (how bout their upcoming Madison Square Garden gig, eh?). Last year, I wrote at length about their debut self-titled album which is a lo-fi folk lover's paradise that vacillates wildly between upbeat, orchestral party pop and

The Love Language - "Heart To Tell" It's got this sort of '50s feel going through it, but conveys heartbreak with more of a kick, never playing it too safe. Stuart McLamb does heartache and heartbreak with a certain timelessness, like some time traveling troubadour. With a classically memorable melody and a wild guitar solo, "Heart To Tell" is one of the better pop rock songs about love that I've heard in a while. "Heart To Tell" is off of The Love Language's Libraries out July 13th on [...]

With the release of its catchy self-titled debut in '09, along with relentless touring, the Love Language has earned a faithful fanbase from coast to coast. McLamb and his [...]
