This Love Unlimited Orchestra record came out in 1981, so I hope they're not pissed that I'm leaking the mp3. The majestic sound of "Welcome Aboard" kicks off Pat Mahoney's Mix For Future Music Festival , so it might sound familiar if you caught that one last week. Love Unlimited Orchestra - Welcome Aboard

A cornicopia of re-edited, re-worked and remixed disco infused treats, largely from the 70s and 80s. Funk-de-funk! I've really enjoyed making this and I really hope you enjoy listening! Tape #8: Funky Town image is a re-edit by myself of an album cover called "Funky Town" by Lipps Inc compiled and mixed by Cassette Culture Download [...]

Recently I've been coming across some fantastic re-edits and remixes of some old favourites from the 70s and 80s. In particular, there's some great work from The Revenge and Dimitri From Paris. The best finds are the more subtle re-edits that retain most aspects of the original and stretch and mould the best parts into something for the dancefloor. I've really enjoyed making this and I really hope you enjoy listening! Tape #8: Funky Town [...]

If you're a fan of Brooklyn-based group The Stuyvesants , then chances are you're familiar with Darien Birks a.k.a. Flwrpt . Every now and then he drops these really cool mixes with rare gems and impeccable song choices! Sample Food Vol. 2 kicks off appropriately with the Otis Redding classic "Try A Little Tenderness" which Watch The Throne has recently revived. I happen to enjoy discovering the origins of samples and many of you Blind I Faithfuls are music historians, critics and even producers. So this one is for you. [...]
Dress like Mayer Hawthorne.
The Five Stairsteps included a woman and she sang the first verse of O-o-h Child . I thought that was a guy... I thought that the lead singer for the Shocking Blue was a guy, too. Cuba Gooding, Jr.'s father was a member of the Main Ingredient . Kenny G . was a member of the Love Unlimited Orchestra. I thought he was an accountant. The Five Stairsteps - O-o-h child The Shocking Blue [...]

Here's the lame loser move of the month: unless you're famous, don't be the lame loser on Twitter who has like 8000 followers... and then follows 3 people. If you are one of these people, then stop it. That's not how it works. Winnie's on Twitter HERE ! Love Unlimited - I Did It For Love

As he prepares to release his collaborative effort, Boy Meets World , with Exile, Fashawn is releasing a steady, but not overflowing amount of material to gain attention. On this track for DJ Booth's Freestyle series, the young upstart goes in over the instrumental by Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra. Fashawn - "Midnight Groove" Freestyle

Love Unlimited Orchestra - Baby Blues (divshare) I played this out for the first time at Airport Bar last night and it drove the ladies crazy. And by ladies I mean lesbians because the place was half lesbians, one fourth middle-aged black people, and the last fourth was comprised of people who write for this blog. But seriously, that place is like my new favorite bar. It's on the east side of Airport Road between Manor and MLK behind an automotive repair shop that specializes in fixing taco trucks. There is no sign. [...]

Love Unlimited Orchestra - Welcome Aboard I'd forgotten all about this one; thanks to the lads for the reminder. Check out what the bass player does starting at 3:26. First class.

Well I was saving this one for a rainy day, but I guess today is truly as good as any other day. R.I.P. Isaac Hayes 1942-2008 Chef's gone! Well, technically Chef has been 'gone' for a while , but unless you were living in a cave, or a Scientology Testing Center yesterday, the great Issac Hayes passed away. Scientology jokes aside, the man's contribution to funk and soul plays second fiddle only to James Brown. While he left behind a string of classics, here's his most infamous [...]

Sorry for the lack of action, suffering from web problems again. We were recently contacted by Panda Riot , a three piece from Chicago, Illinois. They are another of the new breed of shoegaze bands getting us all of a fluster at the moment: They have a new record 'She Dare all Things' in the record shops & they were good enough to have a quick chat with us. We kicked off proceedings with an old favorite.. What would you rather be attacked by- Shark or Bear? Justin: A bear, [...]

Milwaukee cats rejoice. Canary pal and self described Skee-E-O has come correct with the first of many local tavern installs of your favorite miniature wooden ball game from back in the day. Only now tickets won for a high score are good for free beers instead of a plastic backscratcher or coin purse with a Charles Cheese logo on it. Personally my most vivid memories as a shorty of the pizza parlor gamery were losing my velcro wallet in the ball pit every time i dove in and the first [...]

Been slackin' lately, having too much fun watching Lost and The Wire and getting into Alex Ross' The Rest Is Noise (no doubt the subject of a future post) ... for now here's some smooth late 70s funk to keep the weekend mellow ... Love Unlimited Orchestra - "Strange Games & Things" Bohannon - "Save Their Souls" [...]
Webster Lewis - Welcome Aboard Quickly popping this up now before I'm off to bed, as I'm busy all day tomorrow, and then my Dad is going to be in town for the weekend, so I won't be having blog time for a while. This is a strange and wonderful Barry White produced nugget that sounds anything else I've heard him touch. The Squeaker's ears tweaked when he heard it on an Idjut Boys mix that you can still download from here . [...]
