MySpace Secret Shows is pleased to announce that The Hold Steady , one of the most critically lauded bands of the last decade, will play a small intimate show at The Railyard in Billings, MT on Thursday, July 24, 2008. The Secret Show featuring Hold Steady is a free, exclusive performance for the MySpace community and is one of the only shows of this nature that the band will play on their current U.S. tour in support of 'Stay Positive' , the new album released July 15 on Vagrant Records. [...]

That's right. The reunion shows, which have slowly morphed into a reunion tour for Hot Water Music, will not be ending anytime soon. The details of what this means for the future of the members' other projects or whether HWM will release a full album of new material is yet to be clarified by the band. Yet, I am sure that I'm not alone when I say that I'm cool with that, so long as I get to see my Hot Water play live again. Back in January, my wife and I were [...]

Three bands, one name, all beloved. There have been multiple bands with the same name before. There was Nirvana before Nirvana . A Skid Row before Skid Row . But rarely have there been more than two notable bands with the same name. Enter The Loved Ones (and The Loved Ones and The Loved Ones), who not only rocked in three separate decades, but who impressed critics... Three bands, one name, all beloved. There have been multiple bands with the same name [...]

The Loved Ones are angry, that much is clear. But what exactly are they angry about?
The Loved Ones – "Build and Burn" (Fat Wreck Chords) The Loved One's second full-length, Build and Burn, isn't as good as their debut full-length, Keep Your Heart, which wasn't as good as their self-titled debut EP. Each recording the band has done turns further away from the energetic pop-punk-rock that made ...

As I put together today's mixtape, I realized that we're already 6 weeks into the new year. Just over six weeks ago, we were doing the whole christma-kuh-wanza holiday and new year's, and it was cold. Now, it's warm out and there are tornados ripping across the south, and it's almost like spring. Well, here in the southern states at least. Which reminds me- some of the year's first festivals are just around the bend. Not big festivals, but rather the fun local variety. I'm talking about the Oysterfest- which used to be on Boling Way in Buckhead early in [...]

M y wife and I have been fans of Philadelphia's The Loved Ones since they released their first EP a few years back. That record and their 2006 full-length Keep Your Heart were full or gritty but melodic East Coast pop punk that played nicely alongside Smoke Or Fire, Kid Dynamite, and the like so as pop-punk fans it's probably easy to see why we really liked them. Their latest record Build And Burn (however) is a bit of a departure and actually caught us a little off guard on the first listen. [...]
While half of our nation rushes out to the polls to take us one step closer to our next presidential election, many will hit the record stores as well, casting their votes for best new albums of the year so far. There are no weak candidates this week - as you can tell from Largehearted Boy's weekly ballot - but we'll let the candidates speak for themselves: Basia Bulat - In the Night ( MP3 ) from Oh, My Darling on [...]
(as featured on This Week's Finds , Feb. 3-9) "Power Lines" - the Interiors I can't make out what they're singing about, and the title doesn't necessarily imply a fun time, but the music is extremely good-natured, in an early Talking Heads-ish sort of way--the stuttering drumbeat, creative bass playing, swooping melody lines, and singer/guitarist Chase Duncan's amiable, wide-mouthed vocal style (sounding quite a bit like Dave Matthews doing a David Byrne imitation) all contributing to that sensation. One of the things that I think makes the rhythm [...]

Bonerama and OK Go to release digital EP Bonerama and OK Go will release " You're Not Alone ", a five-song digital EP. Bonerama and OK Go spent the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina recording at Piety Street Studios deep in the city's Upper 9th Ward. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the EP – available exclusively at iTunes – will benefit members of New Orleans' music community such as R&B legend Al Johnson, who are still struggling to rebuild their homes and their lives in the [...]
Build & Burn is the second full length release from Philadelphia's, The Loved Ones . The album was produced by Pete Steinkopf and Bryan Keinlen from the Bouncing Souls and features cameos from the Hold Steady 's Franz Nicolay (piano, Hammond B3 organ, harmonica, accordion, saw) and Tad Kubler (guitar). The new record hints at Americana rock n' roll with expanded instrumentation, plenty of backing vocals and a thematic concept based on the album title. The first song from the record, "Pretty Good Year", which was featured on our online [...]
Part three of four of the rare garage-rock series. Like the sixties French Freakbeat compilation featured back in April, the 60's Scarcest Garage Records (pt. 1 & 2) is a compilation I often frequent that has little to no information to be found online. In the 21st century, this fact alone adds yet [...]

A re you looking for some snappy and poppy punk tunes? Look no further my friends. This is volume one of as many as I can (and want to) put together. If you have suggestions for subsequent volumes, please let me know. MP3 | Smoke Or Fire - Loving, Self-Loathing MP3 | The Loved Ones - 100k MP3 | Fifth [...]
No, this ain't yer dad's Nuggets. Like the sixties French Freakbeat compilation featured back in April, the 60's Scarcest Garage Records (pt. 1 & 2) is a compilation I often frequent that has little to no information to be found online. In the 21st century, this fact alone adds yet another element of [...]
Ahh yes. The top twenty... This starts the real meat and potatoes of the list. These are the albums that I truly could not get enough of this year. Constant rotation. In describing a lot of the albums, I seem to be describing how they make me feel rather than what they actually sound like. Punk rock will do that to ya. 20. Hot Chip - The Warning (Astralwerks) MP3 | Boys From School [...]

The wife and I headed out yesterday to see one hell of a punk rock show featuring Lifetime, The Bronx, and The Loved Ones at Metro (which is now awesomely smoke free). We met up with my sister and her boyfriend Tim and Amy's good friend Jolene . Anyhow, The Loved Ones went on first and played a super tight set with a number of songs off their latest record Keep Your Heart including the one below. MP3 | [...]
