Thanks to everyone who listened last week! The show included an interview with Elizabeth & The Catapult, which will be posted separately today. If you missed it, the show can be downloaded below. However, it did not record properly, and the first half an hour of the show is missing. Alas. You can check out what was captured, which starts right at the point I played the interview. FIVE SCENES PERIPHERAL TO A WAR BOMBS ON THE WAY Promute Dark Moving Blondena Music : 2006 [Buy It] I. Yesterday morning, I sat outside a cute coffee shop in an ugly strip mall. North Carolina starts to thaw in February, and it felt good to sit outside. Even though I was essentially sitting in a parking lot, I had a little table and a fresh cup of coffee, and my first cigarette of the day smoldered in my [...]

Musikkah Day Seven Musi-what? [ Post ] With all of the love-themed mixes that go up at the time I put Musicupid up, a mix that propagated singleness just seemed oh-so-right. Musicupid Originally Posted 2.14.07 On this day of chocolates, of roses, [...]

Non facciamo nemmeno in tempo a disfare la valigetta che è mattino. E' ora di riporre nella cesta i panni da dj e indossare le ambitissime cuffie da podcaster. E i dischi?

a few weeks back nate from booktapes , who's new to the bay area, asked if a.g. could recommend any songs of, about, or related to san francisco. a few titles were batted back and forth between us, which process inspired the idea for this post. though clearly more robust than what we first came up with, the suite of songs below is far from a comprehensive list. (tony bennett, whose " i left my heart in san francisco " probably rates as the most iconic s.f.-related song, you'll notice has been left off, along [...]

Kylie Minogue, Men At Work, Rolf Harris...yup, Australia has produced some quality music over the years (do not think I'm kidding here - I cry at Two Little Boys every single time and Kippers and I are still arguing over which song was Kylie's finest hour), but there's more! Much, much more. Here are live songs from three of my favourite Australian bands. The chances are that, if you've stuck with our blog to this point, you'll already be familiar with The Lucksmiths . Here's a song from a recent gig of theirs in Massachusetts. [...]

5 covers for another manic Monday. The originals of the following cover versions are pretty much all-time classics, impossible to top, but there's just something endearing and refreshing about listening to tunes you know by heart, in a different manner. PJ Harvey feat. Vincent Gallo & John Frusciante - Moon River (Audrey Hepburn Cover) 'Nuff said. Sarah Blasko - Don't Dream It's Over (Crowded House Cover) Dreamy chamber pop reimagining. Pedro The Lion - Fade Into [...]
I don't use the phrase "perfect pop" lightly, but I'm sure I've used it to describe the Lucksmiths' live show before. Sparkling guitar-lines, whip-smart lyrics, and snappy stand-up drum beats, delivered together by four Australian gents who, fortunately for us, keep on coming back to our country. This time, in lieu of a new album, they brought along their comprehensive two-disc rarities
The MP3 hosting situation is all better. And we're back to daily updates. I've uploaded MP3s for my posts from the last week, so feel free to check those out again, with MP3 link this time. Or, just listen below. Good times. Thanks for reading. John Vanderslice - The Minaret (from Emerald City ) John Vanderslice - Numbered Lithograph (from Emerald City ) The Brunettes - Brunettes Against Bubblegum Youth (from Structure & Cosmetics ) The Brunettes - Her [...]

The Lucksmiths I've been slowly working my way through the new, MASSIVE (49 tracks!) Lucksmiths compilation, Spring A Leak and I'm continually excited after every track. There's enough covers, b-sides, demos, compilation tracks, and unreleased stuff here to keep anyone happy for months. I knew I was going to love it but I couldn't have possibly been more ecstatic when I saw that not only was there Cat's Miaow cover (!), but there's also a Siddeleys cover!!! – and of one of [...]
So I'm sitting here at a friend's house enjoying one of the best reality tv shows I've ever seen. America's Next Top Model throws a dozen or so models in a house and comes up with various academic hoops for them to jump through. My personal favorite is ...
Song obsessions are those songs that we listen to on repeat. I noticed that my obsessions are often a week long. I also thought that other people might have similar obsessions. I've collected a panel of a few like-minded individuals and gotten their "song obsessions of the week." Quite often it's easy to explain why the song is good; it's much hard to explain why we're obsessed. Maybe you'll become obsessed with one of these. - Adrian ( me ): Andy Samberg and Adam Levine (and Richard James) - Iran [...]

This is such a special show for Athens. The Lucksmiths will perform tonight (Tuesday, October 2) at The Caledonia with Ladybug Transistor . Athens band Folklore will also play but the most exciting band tonight is The Lucksmiths. I posted some stuff below for you to check out if you don't know about these Melbourne, Australia wonders. I took a chance and posted what [...]

This past Friday night at work I popped in the 10th album from Aussie quartet The Lucksmiths entitled Spring A Leak , which brought with it a marathon of great indie-pop listening. Released last month on Matinee Recordings , the album (2-discs) compiles over a decade's worth of b-sides, covers, remixes, etc. totalling 45 tracks in all. It's simply massive and if you're getting yourself a wealth of value here if you happen to pick this up. Hopefully, this is a warm-up for some new material in the near future, [...]

Last Wednesday night at Schubas started off happily enough with the light hearted Australian twee piece The Lucksmiths . I???ve been a fan of The Lucksmiths for a long time and I guess the best way I can think of to describe them is if you took Voxtrot and kept all of the light poppy bits and took out any hints of rock then you would have The Lucksmiths. There are intimations of melancholy but the songs don???t grow too dark in their insights. Some of them have a ring slightly similar to [...]
We're here again, now with a new name: Thursday Tunes . The number of songs will vary from post to post, - twelve, twenty or two or even something that doesn't start on a T... Here are this week's Thursday Tunes, all of them found somewhere on bandsites, labelsites, promosites or magazine-sites on the internet. This week's Thursday Tunes is a super-edition , with great music from The Lucksmiths, Tullycraft, Iron & Wine, Susanna, British Sea Power, Sea Wolf, Athlete, Magnet, Office, Ok Ikumi, Love like fire, The Most Serene Republic, Ugress, Maritime, Thurston Moore, Sally Shapiro, [...]
I found this (where else?) at Tullycraft's blog. This is the Lucksmiths' cover of the Bee Gees "I Started a Joke," which will be featured on their new double album Spring a Leak. You can get the full tracklist and their cover of a Ladybug Transistor song here. MP3: The Lucksmiths ...
As expected, Halo 3 is awesome. I've already put more than my fair share of hours into it and I've only had it for a very short time. You and I need to play. I'm sure at some point I tricked you into downloading something that you disliked enough to warrant a virtual gun blast to my head. Message me and we'll go about owning each other. I've got a lot of great shoved in a folder on my desktop right now, so I figured it was a good time for an EP. [...]
