Muse I am writing this from Room 201 of the Best Western in Harrisonburg. I have driven down here with my wife to attend the wedding of a dear, dear college friend and now I'm going to write this post and watch Veronica Mars for the rest of the night! I really kick the Radiohead flashbacks into overdrive on this one :) Countdown #151 ***Featuring*** Atlas Genius Capital Cities Easy Star All-Stars featuring Kirsty Rock Fall Out Boy Imagine Dragons The Lumineers [...]

Guest Post By: Brendan The Grammys broadcast this year was perhaps my favorite of the past decade. The crossover of indie-rock artists to mainstream Top 40 radio is a welcome change. Among my favorite moments of the night was seeing ... Continue reading

J Roddy Walston And The Business are a quartet hailing from Baltimore, MD. Check out their song "Don't Break The Needle" off their 2010 telf-titled album while we wait for their upcoming album set to release later this summer off of ATO Records (whom boast an impressive roster of Alabama Shakes, My Morning Jacket, Old Crow Medicine Show, and many more). You can also see them live on May 31st when they open up for The Lumineers along with Cold War Kids at the Target Center.

Graphics By Madeline Rosemurgy Not even a perpetual torrent of rain could extinguish the good vibes at the inaugural Shaky Knees Music Festival in Atlanta over the weekend. The first day of the two-day festival (Saturday) saw crowds build to around 8,000 by the end of the long, messy day, and by Sunday afternoon, the festival sold out. The 28 bands that played the festival were greeted by over 14,000 keyed up fans all within the confines of the shiny (not anymore), new Historic Old Fourth Ward Park and the adjoining Masquerade Music [...]

Of Monsters and Men I'm getting this post in JUST under the wire because we mopped the kitchen floor last night and my laptop was still in the kitchen. I could have gotten it, but, c'mon guys, it was late. And I have like 45 minutes to spare. In fact, if I hadn't told you, you never would have known how close to the airtime I'm writing this!....So just act like I didn't say anything.... Oh and we have a new Grammy Alternative Album of the Month to coincide with the new [...]
Alice and the Glass Lake is the musical stage name of Wisconsin-born, Brooklyn-based singer and songwriter Alice Lake. It is also that space between real and imagined, she reflects, "the lens through which I live my dreams. It's an escapist place of possibility and heartbreak. And it's a sonic space to become lost and find truth." Big concepts, big ideas. So it's only fitting that Evolution , the May 28 debut EP from Alice and the Glass Lake, be an equally expansive musical canvas for Lake's imaginative and dramatic art/popping electronics. Evolution [...]

The Lumineers @ Austin 360 Amphitheater Those who've been fans of Ruby Hornet might remember a photos series called The Lens and The Life . Its was a bi-weekly photo blog of photos I shot during the previous weeks. A lot has changed since the last TL&TL post - I live in a new city (Austin,TX), have a new job, and love to cook. This is the return of The Lens and The Life, and I hope you guys enjoy it. There was a lot going on in Austin last week: The Moontower [...]

This weekend marks the inaugural run for Atlanta's brand new Shaky Knees Festival , and I'm stoked to be there to experience it! The two day festival will be held in a newly completed park next to a prominent Atlanta music venue, The Masquerade . The schedule and lineup is a bit light compared to other festival heavy-hitters ( Bonnaroo, Sasquatch, Hangout ), but for a first year festival, the lineup is pretty amazing. The schedule is 12-11 Saturday, May 4, and 12-10 Sunday, May 5. Nearly every act scheduled to [...]

Of Monsters and Men Well, it's one of those times when it's VERY late at night, so I won't really say a lot on this post. There's a lot of good music to hear. Our most recent remote was at a bike shop in Austin during SXSW photo by Dave Lichterman It’s time again for Friday on My Mind our weekly blog post that is centered around one common theme. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News. We present to our listeners the finest in musical performances and this is not confined just to the walls of our current home at Dexter and Denny. We spread the KEXP love all around the city, state, country and world. Our presence can be felt [...]
The Lumineers took the main stage at Coachella on the final afternoon of the festival's somewhat unnecessary second weekend (although, people who missed Weekend 1 surely don't share that sentiment). When you first take in their presentation — the guys looking like purveyors of small-batch pickles, the always-smiling cellist/singer Neyla Pekarek dressed a bit like Dorothy, the antique piano, old-timey hats and beat-up acoustic guitars — and it can seem like the halftime show at a Civil War reenactment. You wonder how much of this could possibly be authentic. But then you see how damn passionate [...]

Muse That's right! Debut month continues as we welcome another song to the big show. Hehe. That's what they call the Major Leagues in baseball. I'm implying that my countdown podcast is as attractive to these bands as making it to the major leagues. I'm truly a humble, handsome man. Alice & the Glass Lake is the sonic dream world of Wisconsin native Alice Lake. The Glass Lake harnesses escapism through dancing melodies, honest lyrics and ambient sonic landscapes.
This Coachella footage. This footage of the LUMINEERS performing STUBBORN LOVE at Coachella festival. Tears. That line. "It's better to feel love than nothing at all". Tears official.

The final day of the first weekend of Coachella 2013 started off sunny and blissful before a desert storm gummed up the proceedings at the end. Thoughout the day, contributing photographer Scott Dudelson made the rounds — here's some of what he saw.

This week is about getting back to normal after four days of lighting it up at all the fauxchella pool and after parties. To counterbalance the weekend's merriment, here's a collection of tunes that bounces around from chill trap, chill step and vintage chillout sounds…a little something to get you back into the swing of things. Really loving the Cashmere Cat's stuff right now and I got inspired by our friend and champion selector Dennis Kane's sleazed out disco jam picks for Strut Records (you can check out the post here ) and included a Double Fantasy track from [...]
