Imagine Dragons Pay close attention to this episode. You can hear my voice start strong, proving that my health is almost back to normal, and then get gradually weaker as the evening that I recorded most of it progresses and you start to hear how I sound when I've been up for too long! At this point, it's going to be weird when a new song DOESN'T debut on an episode. We're on the third episode in a row to have a new song on the chart :) [...]

Even in the depths of hopelessly derivative, overtly emotional, tasteless indie folk rock, Stories Don't End plays on the blandest end of that spectrum. Hailing from California and currently opening for Bob Dylan , Dawes prove, with resounding efficiency, their impeccable ability to aimlessly meander through basic singer-songwriter song structures with next to nothing remotely appealing or resonating to offer. And while certainly not as frequently cringe-worthy or corny as other modern contemporaries in the genre, Dawes total lack of zeal on Stories Don't End [...]

Olivia Malone Some weeks, the inbox is a veritable cornucopia of interesting concert announcements for acts big and small. Compiling the blog posts that collect those up is a genuine delight. And easy. Generally so easy. This was not one of those weeks. Indeed, most of the news was of the "support announced" variety, which isn't necessarily uninteresting - sometimes it's more interesting than the headliner - but it is less easy. Anyways, we'll kick off with New York's

Over the last month, the famed Newport Folk Festival has been announcing its 2013 lineup one artist at a time. Lennon and Maisie Stella perform a beautiful cover of The Lumineer's 'Ho Hey' on ABC's NASHVILLE.

Atlas Genius I don't know if you'll believe it based on the quality of my voice at some points in this podcast, but I am actually feeling better! It's just that annoying thing where the remnants of colds stick around for weeks. So annoying. Hopefully you won't be annoyed by this week's countdown, though! (I don't know why you would be....I mean, it's a pretty silly thing to be annoyed at. I was just making a smooth transition.) April's "Debut-Every-Week" trend continues! Enjoy it! [...]

After a few rumored headliners and alleged leaked lineups, the official Lollapalooza roster is here. The Chicago festival is absolutely stacked this year (though it's a bit light on hip-hop), with Mumford & Sons and The Killers on the top line, along with comebacks from The Cure and Nine Inch Nails for all the grown-up goth kids. Other pop acts with top billing include The Postal Service , The Lumineers , Kendrick Lamar , Lana Del Rey (!), Ellie Goulding and Tegan and Sara . [...]

Of Monsters and Men I'm just really happy that I was able to get this one recorded and posted. My larynx is about to abandon my body and try to make it on the streets of New York City as the apprentice to a con artist a la Robert Redford in The Sting. On a related note, my throat really does sting at this juncture. I hope you enjoy the episode! Countdown #145 ***Featuring*** Atlas Genius The Black Keys Capital Cities Dessa [...]

Thank you, Frank Ocean . The 20/20 Experience would not be what it is if it had not been for Channel Orange . In no way am I saying that the N'Sync -ster's latest album ripped anything off. No, but a lot of ideas on The 20/20 Experience are based in some of the bold approaches Frank Ocean took in the R&B genre that would not have been welcome without the success of Channel [...]
Well I started titling this blog like that because I couldn't remember what the time travel analogy I make during the course of the show was. But when I started to write "Lost Time Travel Analogy" I realized that I had unassumingly found the answer. That's a good tip for the future, kids. Stop trying to think of the thing you're trying to think of and give your subconscious room to THINK. It'll come up with the answer. Or it won't and you'll be tormented for the rest of your days. .....Countdown time! Well, as I [...]
