![[QUICKIE] The Maccabees – GIVEN TO THE WILD (w/ "Pelican")](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4195078_lg.jpg)
to have it all and still want more, one things for sure we're all getting older Wall Of Arms was best of 2009 but multiple spins of this leave me flat. "Pelican" is OK. "Unknown" & "Grew Up at Midnight" are semi-jams. [Quickies are mini-reviews that can fit into a 140 character tweet. They are of albums that people already know of but perhaps are curious about our take on it. What did you think of the disc?] [...]

6am Repeat is a recurring feature here at Folk Hive in which we stream the latest track that plays incessantly in the earbuds when we awake at that hour and imbibe massive amounts of coffee and cigarettes in preparation for the advancing day. Consider it your jam of the day — a sweet, sweet gift from me to you. I love you, dude. Words are hard this morning. Yesterday was a recovery day, my insides but not quite up to par after a day spent imbibing homemade beer [...]

The Maccabees - Brighton-based indie band's self-described "cinematic" dreamscape of a third album is already getting the Brit critics buzzing: "stunning" gushes The Sun , "majestic and sublime"...influenced by the disparate likes of Kate Bush, The Stone Roses and David Bowie, the new project, says the band, is "the first time what we really wanted to sound like on record"... Tim Goldsworthy and Bruno Ellingham (Massive Attack, LCD Soundsystem) produced // Release : Given to the Wild (April 24, Cooperative U.S. ) // Sounds like : mature, thoughtful and expansive, with [...]

Maccabees at MHOW in 2009 ( more by Leia Jospe ) The Maccabees have been spending most of 2012 touring behind their new atmospheric rock record, Given to the Wild , which dropped at the beginning of this year. The UK press have been loving it . The American press, not so much . Maybe that's partly why their dates have all been overseas so far. But for those in the US who do want to see the [...]

Words: Saam Das It seems so long since I last heard any music involving Nic Nell , who I first wrote about in the early days of the blog . Five or so years on and he's teamed up with Orlando Weeks to produce a soundtrack accompaniment to a picture book envisioned by The Maccabees singer, entitled 'Young Colossus'. You can listen to its first track, 'Franky', below. It's rare [...]

The Maccabees are proving to be a huge brit-indie rock band - and with their new album "Given To The Wild" - have definitely grown. I must admit I was quite oblivious to the fact they would be releasing a new album, but after hearing the news I was fairly mellow, not excited. I absolutely loved their first album "Colour It In" and found it hard to stop listening to it. Their follow up "Wall Of Arms" has to be one of my favourites, with songs like "No Kind Words" where Orlando's vocals are very, very dreamy. I would [...]

Here's a different video version of The Maccabees' "Feel to Follow" than the one I previously posted : "Feel to Follow" is from Given To The Wild , one of my favourite albums of the year so far!
Music to have sex to alert ! Do love the MACCABEES latest LP. And their cover of the BLACK KEYS' mp3, LONELY BOY , as performed in the Radio One HQs a few days a back. Now just to find someone to have sex with !
Another week, another BBC Radio One Live Lounge and this week UK's The Maccabees entered into the studio to lay down a cover. The band take on new Arena fillers The Black Keys ' huge hit "Lonely Boy" taking the fuzzy monster and giving it a little smooth over, turning into a polished little number. A lighter version if you will that have some ghostly vocals thrown in for good measure. See what you think up at the top.

Today's Mix/Cover/Live includes Lightning Dust, The Maccabees and Savoir Adore.
