There have been a ton of interesting snippets dropped in my lap lately - most of them awesome concert announcements- and I feel the best way to get them out there is to simply dump them all into one post. So, here goes.... There is buzz that the irish band The Frames will be touring North American this fall with stops in Philly, NY, Chicago, Washington, DC, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The Frames are an incredible folk rock with a wealth [...]
The Main Drag "Dove Nets" directed by Ben&Julia from Ben&Julia on Vimeo . A jam of a stop-motion video, directed by Ben&Julia for a stand-out from the Main Drag's Yours As Fast As Mine . Details on the band's just-completed third album (and fresher tracks) on the way, promise.

Photo by Alan Wilkis Future kings of indie rock The Main Drag hit the stage at New York City's titanic CMJ 2009 festival around 1 a.m. this morning, where fan Alan Wilkis Tweeted they were "killing it." (Much like every band at CMJ, apparently .) Look for news about The Main Drag's forthcoming sophomore album's release in this space, folks. Anyone check them out last night/this morning? Any CMJ stand-outs us L.A. kids need to know?

happy birthday maxime, you rogue. all i'll say is: if i remember even 15 minutes of the olympics, there's be hell to pay. late-2007 music like two clinking glasses (reach out and dance someone, muthafucka!) In the five years that I've lived in the Boston area I've not yet indulged myself in its rich local music scene. Not until the show at T.T. The Bear's Place on Friday night in Cambridge. With four bands on the bill it was an exciting and gritty night of local music. When I first moved to Boston I thought little about its local music; there were no big names that I was familiar with and I was too lazy and too intimidated by the new scene to do the digging myself. [...]

The folk-pop Boston, Massachusetts band Main Drag delightfully cover LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends". They surely do make it their own by keeping their style while still maintaining the same feeling that James Murphy had when he wrote the song. You can tell The Main Drag have a flare for the dramatic, and it works perfectly with a song as epic as "All My Friends". [mp3] : The Main Drag - All My Friends (LCD Soundsystem Cover)
Today is June 22, 2009, hotter than hell. In these troubled economic times, cheap forms of entertainment thrive, and there are few things I find more enjoyment in than cheap entertainment. Expensive entertainment I find no joy in whatsoever (mostly because I never get a chance to.) Tomorrow there will be USDA Choice cheap entertainment going [...]
A Jagged Gorgeous Winter - The Main Drag from Main Drag on Vimeo . Rawkblog (and Rock Band ) bros the Main Drag embrace their inner Calvin and Hobbes in this awesome, supremely dorky video. Does Adam Arrigo look a little like Robert Pattinson? Is it just my day job talking? P.S. Dudes are working on album No. 3. Huzzah!
The Main Drag are an indie/electro/pop band out of Boston Massachusetts. Like Passion Pit, another Massachusetts band, these guys have an ear for a good pop song, and also like Passion Pit they throw everything and the kitchen sink into their mixes. Everything from strings and glitches to horns makes it's way into their songs. The Main Drags overall sound is a bit more of a traditional rock sound that only leans on synths occasionally. The main heft of their songs is lifted by their nimble guitar work. They've gone on to be salon.com's #1 unsigned artist and have a [...]

Vacations are just never long enough. Certainly doesn't help that I left comfy 90 degree summer weather to come back to a measly 60 degrees. Boston's The Main Drag like to keep it fun and upbeat. Their songs are crafted intelligently with guitars and keyboards, their rhythms are made for dancing. But just like borangs, they don't take themselves too seriously, and we love it. Just check out this little video they put together for their song "Jagged Gorgeous Winter." Absolutely [...]
It seems Boston indie-rock heroes the Main Drag have gotten a bit weirder since releasing 2007's stellar Yours As Fast As Mine . "Teeth Face Outerspace" retains the punk-posse singalong exuberance of their cover of LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends," but blasts the music out to the stars, widening into Flaming Lips-esque cosmos-scraping. Up, up and away. The Main Drag - "Teeth Face Outerspace": mp3 And for those who don't know, the band's "Jagged Gorgeous Winter" made it into Rock Band 2 - and apparently a Target [...]
It's official, famed rodent Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow (again) meaning 6 more weeks of winter. Yay! According to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, since 1887 Phil has seen his shadow 97 times, hasn't seen it 15 times (there are no records for nine of the years). Nevertheless, enjoy this eclectic Groundhog's Day Mix. A few singles and albums, old and new, of what's been being played at quarterlife over the past few weeks. Singles Dept of Eagles - "Noone Does it Like You" Layered jangly 60's pop/rock kind of music. Very catchy vocal harmonies that skips along at a nice beat. Grab-bag Thursday is always my favorite day, and a few of these songs have me grinning from ear to ear, especially the cover of one of my favorite songs All My Friends . I'm even more excited that I get to share them with you. Enjoy! A. The Main Drag - All My Friends (LCD Soundsystem Cover) ( Alt: YSI ) There are few songs that hit me like a load of bricks, and even fewer songs that can stop me completely. I could be at work, making breakfast or breathing , [...]

Well, it's Valentine's Day... again. It may be a happy day of love or a crappy day of its absence, but at least we have some good tunes. These songs have two things in common- 1)the word "love" in the title, and 2) I like them... Enjoy! "We're Looking for a Lot of Love" - Hot Chip "I Think I'm In Love" - Beck "I Wanna Be Your Lover (Bob Dylan Cover)" - Yo La Tengo [...]

Well, it's now 2008, all the end of the year lists are done, and it's time to look forward. But first, I'll take one more day to talk a little about some of the records that didn't make my list but seemed to pop up on everyone else's. First question: is it wrong that I immediately disregard the relevance of any "best of 2007" list that has Radiohead at #1? I really feel like I'm taking crazy pills on this one. I keep listening to it hoping that something will click and I'll at least [...]
M y wife's hometown (and the people in it) just got a little cooler. When I got married here five years ago, my brother asked for "the best beer" that the bar served and got a Labatt's. Not a good start. There is now (however) a bar in this small central Pennsylvania town that serves brews from Victory , Dogfish Head , and even Bell's . Heck, even the local brewery is making s Special Dark lager. Times are changing. In music related new, one great new band [...]
