As a lifelong resident of the District, you can't help but feel a bit peeved when those living well outside of its borders claim virtual residency in the nation's capital. For the duration of this post, however, I'd like to extend these oft-abused hometown rights to southern Virginia - Blacksburg to be exact - so I can proudly support Dream Cop as a local act. mp3: Dream Cop - Marooned Dream Cop is the moniker of Virginia based multi-instrumentalist Tommy Davidson. Blending experimental ambient noise with a lo-fi/shoegazer sensibility, Dream Cop somehow utilizes pieces of nearly every genre of music I've ever been obsessed with. His debut digital single "Basement Tapes" is expected to see a release later this summer on Output Noise, while an ep is in the works for Tough Love. Here's a pretty crafty homemade video for the track "Warm Thrash".

Nach einer geruhsamen Nacht versprach der zweite Tag auch vom Wetter her gut zu werden. Also ging es dann so gegen 13 Uhr in Richtung Festival. Dort angekommen spielten gerade God Forbid. Kannte ich vorher nicht, waren aber recht gut. Danach kam die größte Überraschung für mich. Die Band August Burns Red war der Hammer. Der Sänger ging auf der Bühne ab wie Schmidts Katze. Und die Musik war auch echt gut. Danach kamen dann die für mich wirklich wichtigen Bands. Despised Icon aus Canada, Sonic Syndicate aus Schweden (waren echt schlecht... aber dazu [...]
