The Twilight Sad Kilsyth's finest sons are all set to release their much anticipated third album (proper), No One Can Ever Know, next month. Having heard the album I reckon it's going to take a lot of folk by surprise with the new direction they've taken. As a wee teaser of what to expect, you can download Another Bed from it for free via both the Skinny and Spin . Aloha Tigers! My good friend Ian, who used to run the blog Have Fun At Dinner has set [...]
The Araya family have been photographed in a dojo wearing martial arts outfits and brown belts. Tom's leading Slayer by example. Someone throw a bear at him!

The Martial Arts - Empty Out Here (demo) mp3Paul Kelly of Glasgow indie/powerpoppers The Martial Arts recently cooked up this tasty entree in his kitchen and kindly put it on our platter. This is the first TMA number since their acclaimed 2006 debut, Your Sinclair, which is downloadable for free at their MySpace site and also available at the commercial sites below (along with other fare). Click here to view the embedded video. Did you know there's a YouTube channel devoted to collecting the baddest fight scenes EVER ? And now that you know, how are you not going to spend your entire weekend watching these clips and thinking to yourself, man I would love to kick some ass and take some names. It's mostly older martial arts movies, with a few new ones added into the mix. And as a commenter at MeFi points out , it is indeed missing two crucial fight scenes: [...]

I interviewed Egyptian Hip Hop the other night, and happily, they proved to be thoughtful, intelligent and as excruciatingly talented as they were excruciatingly young. Being facile of mind though, I spent most of the interview trying to guess exactly just how young they were - and here's the answer: young enough to make me feel like an unhip uncle meeting nephews at a wedding and attempting to chat about 'what music you're into'. [Full results from this interview coming soon.] Youth isn't everything, I kept repeating to myself, as I sobbed [...]
I receive links to articles of this type almost daily, but it's important to reiterate some facts when considering just what star to hitch your retirement wagon onto. From an ABC News article from this past April, "Though vinyl sales account for less than 1 percent of sales, Rollingstone.com reports that the number of records sold last year jumped to 1.88 million from 988,000 in 2007. The Recording Industry Association of America officially acknowledged a resurgence of vinyl records when statistics proved it in 2007. That year, the American music industry saw a 46.2 [...]

Bruce Lee was always a hero of mine growing up. I remember as a kid me and my friends used to stay up late and watch his movies back to back, and of course we would all tell stories of shit that we heard he was capable of doing, like, "yo for real.. Bruce Lee could levitate for 6 seconds.." or "yo.. I heard Bruce Lee supposedly knew how to shoot a fireball". Lol. Crazy shit.. anyway, I don't think he could do either of those things, but Bruce was capable of some serious shit. Take a look: [...]
WATCH BRUCE LEE KICK CHUCK NORRIS' ASS! be sure to wait till the final seconds so you can see Chuck's terrifying war-cry. Here are some kewl facts about Bruce Lee, courtesy of I Heart Chaos//Wikipedia . *Lee's striking speed from three feet with his hands down by his side reached five hundredths of a second. * Lee's combat movements were at times too fast to be captured on film at 24 frames per second, so many scenes were shot in 32fps to put Lee in slow [...]

If you're resolved to improve your self-defense this new year, may I suggest The Martial Arts. They may not improve your karate kicks or your break-bricks-with-head skills, but they'll do wonders for your cardiovascular health as you find yourself bopping around the room to their bouncy rhythms. Their timeless throwback pop sound is influenced, according to their myspace page, by "Partridge & Moulding" (XTC) and "Holsapple & Stamey" (the db's). It's rare for young bands these days to name such pairs as influences, rarer still to pull off a comparable tune, but Paul Kelly & Co. have succeeded in doing [...]

For what seems like an eternity ago, I wrote a review of The Martial Arts album "Your Sinclair". Well, now the Glasgow band are offering said album as a free download at their MySpace until December 25th. Nice huh? "You Sinclair" was produced by Ronald Bood ( Shout Out Louds ) and should appeal to fans of similar bands like Kaiser Chiefs and The Delays . So what are you waiting for? MP3: The Martial Arts - [...]
