Hey folks, just a quick one today since I'm going out camping for a few days and have to leave in like ten minutes. But I just caught a great act on a morning show that I would like to share with you. I don't know anything about the Mary Onettes other than that they been around for about six or seven years and comes from a small town called Jonkoping in southern Sweden. As I said, I just heard the Mary Onettes perform their song Lost (which apperantly was featured in a recently aired episode of Grey's Anatomy) live [...]
Songs That Might Otherwise Pass You By: The Half-Ass Edition This has been the most horrible day I've had in a few years. Worse than when I found out my cat had cancer? Yes, because at least then I had love in my heart, mixed with fear--not absolute loathing and a deep urge to maim. I just spent a very ill-advised 24 hours with my mother. It ended with me yelling at my mother that I wanted to

The Mary Onettes posted this bulletin on their MySpace: "As some of you have noticed, we are doing som touring this autumn. First of is Germany with two dates, then TMO is heading to Spain for a week. A bigger German tour is also set to October, the exact dates will be put up as soon as possible. We are also hoping to do a few Swedish gigs. The recording of our second album will also start this autumn, something that could take 2 months or 2 years, hopefully something in [...]
I'm having an affair with another blog. I've recently started reading a Bay area blog called "I Pick My Nose" and I'm helping the owner and Standford KZSU DJ, Adrian, out with his " Song Obsession Fridays ." It's a weekly post that includes recommendations from from other DJ's and a few friends. Here is this week's post. Head on over to I Pick My Nose sometime and check it out. Adrian : Benni Hemm Hemm - Brekkan I saw these guys last Friday [...]
Song obsessions are those songs that we listen to on repeat. I noticed that my obsessions are often a week long. I also thought that other people might have similar obsessions. I've collected a panel of a few like-minded individuals and gotten their "song obsessions of the week." Quite often it's easy to explain why the song is good; it's much hard to explain why we're obsessed. Maybe you'll become obsessed with one of these. - Adrian ( me ): Benni Hemm Hemm - Brekkan (mp3) ( [...]

Summer is a great time to look back at what you've accomplished so far. From the blogger's perspective, it's a great time to assess the year in music. With that in mind, the Rock Sellout writers have decided to do a little mid-year reflection and offer up our picks for some of the best releases from the first half of 07. We're a wacky bunch, so expect the unexpected. Kip's Mid-Year Picks : Arcade Fire - Neon Bible MP3 : Arcade Fire - "No Cars Go" [...]

A friend knowing that I'm a fool for pretty much anything post-punk or new wave mentioned that I should check out The Mary Onettes . I thought what a horrible name for a band, they have to be cheesy. I've been pretty much in awe listening to their new self-titled album, nothing ground breaking or new here except I seemed mesmerized by the way they're able to replicate a certain sound. Not shlocky, they do it well. These Swedes seem to channel the ghost of New Order down to the [...]
>>>(mp3): The Mary Onettes - Void >>>(mp3): The Mary Onettes - [...]

Hovslätt, Sweden "Still" The Mary Onettes on MySpace The Mary Onettes on The Hype Machine
Interestingly, The Mary Onettes sound brings a darkly intense perspective to Swedish Pop. Without a doubt you can hear the influences of Joy Divison , Echo & the Bunneymen , The Cure , and The Stone Roses echoing throughout this record, yet they maintain a fresh voice in a fusion of the their influences and their current country's music Pop movement. The band was formed in Jönköping, Sweden seven years ago and survived two failed record deals and two EP's before releasing this intriging album on Labrador. [...]
Just for you, a Sunday edition of The Daily Graboid ! I really hate posting this late, but i've been sort of busy and suddenly decided that I wanted a little break from blogging. For one, I caved in and bought a Nintendo Wii . It's probably the best impulse buy ever, and it's completely taken up every little bit of free time that i've had. I highly recommend picking one up if you've had the slightest interest in trying one out as I think it can appeal to a wide range of [...]

There's so much good music released these days! Here are some albums that have been played A LOT on my stereo lately. These are highly recommended albums (+ some eps...)! LUCKY SOUL - THE GREAT UNWANTED This is the ultimate spring music for me at the moment. Lucky Soul sounds very much like a 2007 indie version of the female motown soul-pop groups from the 60s. Their sound and their melodies

I know, I know. It may seem at this point that my recent intentions are so blatantly to exclusively feature Swedish artists. Including the two featured today, that is three in a row! Well, the truth is, unless I am writing a specific feature, I simply write about what I am enjoying at the moment. So no, it is not intentional at all. I often find music on a whim, whether it is by word of mouth or stumbling upon it by way of luck. To tell you the truth, I had no idea The Mary Onettes were [...]

The self titled début album from The Mary Onettes is due for release on Labrador on the 25th April 2007. The band sound like some of the nosier aspects of the 1980's but with a poppier take. There is plenty of influences from the likes of the Jesus and Mary Chain and a number of bands from England's north western Counties. The Mary Onettes - Lost The Mary Onettes - Void You can listen to the album in full at Last FM [...]
"...Long awaited debut album from Sweden's best new band. It took them two years and three labels to get here, but if that's what they needed in order to produce what must be one of the finest Swedish debut albums ever, it was worth all the wait. These ten songs sound somewhat like a modern version [...]
