The Mavyns are set to release their debut studio album From The Tree Of No Ledge this month with a five-city tour of the country. The band has previously released a live album, Lick The Blue Frog (free download here ), which is a recording of one of their first gigs at the Lower Parel venue in Mumbai. Missing out on a big moment is so infuriating because you never hear the end of it. Fans of music get reminded all the time that they missed some huge event and unfortunately they "will never understand because x event changed everything." It is inconvenient that huge events are missed and we can't always be there but these huge moments are usually the culmination of a lot of smaller moments. Woodstock didn't happen out of the blue and almost a million people did not go to that farm in New York state for the promise of something, but rather a [...]
Mumbai rockers The Mavyns played Arc Asia, Pune on Friday, November 11 as a part of the pre-parties for the Bacardi NH7 Weekender . The post-punk act played a fairly long set, to a sizaeble audience. The band has always received a good response in the city, and this outing for the band was no different. We've got photos, and the setlist from the gig, below. Setlist 'Bad Milk' 'Little Woman' 'My Sound' 'Under The Street Light' 'Star Seeds' 'Greener Than The Sea' [...]
Mumbai alternative rock act The Mavyns played High Spirits, Pune on Friday, April 29. We were there. By now, the fact that The Mavyns , with their synchronous haircut-era Beatles meets turn-of-the-century post-punk schtick, are among India's most promising acts is common knowledge. In a near-disarming timespan, the Mumbai quartet managed to create an identity strong enough for us to associate a particular type of concert with. What became apparent on Friday was how effectively Koregaon Park-venue The High Spirits is able to complement that kind of concert. Quite [...]
Mumbai acoustic project Dischordian launched their debut album at the Blue Frog on Tuesday, April 5. Dischordian is the project of Split frontman Garreth D'Mello. D'Mello has been performing in this avatar since 2008. The band released their debut album The Feni Farm Riot to a surprisingly packed Tuesday night audience at the Blue Frog. The band performed a nearly two hour-long set comprised of material from the album and a few cuts that aren't on the album as well. Powered by a contingent of hardcore fans, the [...]
