The Mayfair Set is the collaboration of LA's Dum Dum Girls and NY's Blank Dogs ; both plurals, but actually singular efforts. Pictured above is their forthcoming 6-song 123 due out on Woodsist which is absolutely killin' it this year. Hit up their MySpace to hear some tracks to look forward to. The Mayfair Set - Already Warm and one of my favorite tunes of the year... Blank Dogs - RCD Song The Mayfair Set also has upcoming releases [...]

When writing on Dum Dum Girls in the past, I've mentioned the Mayfair Set, her best-of-two-worlds collaborative project with the recently unmasked Blank Dogs. It's good stuff and thankfully there's more of it: A six-song Woodsist 12" from the duo is forthcoming. You can hear two of the tracks -- "Cease To Be" and "Junked" -- at their MySpace (Via GvsB ). And, because we didn't post it previously, take a listen to "Already Warm," the A-Side of the band's 7" out now on Mike "Blank Dogs" Sniper's Captured Tracks label. (To date [...]

The Mayfair Set , the collaborative affair from Dum Dum Girls + Blank Dogs , has a new 6-song 12" (pictured) due out soon on Woodsist . Listen to two tracks from the forthcoming release -- " Cease to Be " and " Junked " -- at the group's myspace page . ************ The group also has upcoming releases due on Slumberland and Zoo Music , in addition to an excellent 7" that's still available on Captured Tracks . In case you missed [...]
Hey! My apologies for the lack of action around here lately. Whenever I get busy this blog tends to be the first thing to get knocked to the bottom of my list of priorities. But I wanted to make a quick post to say that I fiiiiiiiinally got my Mayfair Set and Brilliant Colors 7"s in the mail yesterday. The wait, long as it was, was well worth it in my opinion. I've had them both spinning constantly for the past 48 hours and they seem to only be getting better. At the moment I think I'm loving Brilliant Colors [...]

I'm famous. If you google 'dum dum girls', my blog is #3 on the list. Specifically, this post. Coooooooo-lah. Oh, and blank dogs and dum dum girls joined lyrical pop forces to produce The Mayfair Set . It's um, kind of beautiful. That is if you like that kind of thing. (I'm drunk)
The Singles Collection is contributor Jason Jackowiak's weekly column focusing on rare and essential 7″ releases. We gladly accept all types of 7″ for consideration. This week's Singles Collection is awash in the boozy afterglow of South by Southwest , a festival we survived for the 10th year running... but just barely. If you are a true music fan and have never been, you really owe it to yourself to get down to Austin at least once and experience the mayhem and hysteria for yourself, because a slew of blog/twitter posts really [...]

What happens when two one-person bands, who are darlings of the blogopshere before they even release albums, decide to form a group together? Does this constitute using the phrase supergroup? Neither the one-woman Dum Dum Girls nor the one-man Blank Dogs have released much of a body of work, yet they have decided to venture out to create music together under the moniker the Mayfair Set. And apparently the extra workload hasn't been too much of a burden as they have released a strong series of some good, fuzzy pop songs. "Already Warm" features some incessant guitar work with some [...]

Dum Dum Girl Dee Dee joins hands with Blank Dogs on this garage-y nod to 1960's psych-rock. The band will be in Austin this year, and I'm honestly more excited to see Dee Dee put her lovely voice on display. To be honest, I don't hear the influence or personality of Blank Dogs anywhere on this track, except for a baritone voice that never really dares to make itself known. This could pass for a Dum Dum Girls song and I'd be just as impressed. [...]

Here ya go, something for the weekend. It's the March installment of the the Finest Kiss Basementcast. If this is going to become a regular thing, I guess I should get a theme song and some back ground music for the talking parts. A real microphone might be nice too, one of those big foamy ones would be perfect. Maybe I should get some advertisers too. Naah, I kind of like the furnace as my background noise, at least until I sell out. basementcast : download [...]

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Hysteric" A couple years ago, I was a YYY-fretter , bemoaning a sophmore LP that didn't play to the bands strengths as I saw them. Mainly, I was bemoaning the shelving of the band's best Nick Zinner-dominated, legend of a guitar slayer moments, some of which would eventually pop up on the Is Is EP. Now, faced with a third LP mostly devoid of any shredding, whatsoever, it's sort of funny that I should be so enthusiastic. But the album succeeds primarily on the increased development [...]
Back in the early 90's Simple Machines put a pamphlet that they called the Mechanic's Guide. It was a how-to guide for putting out a record and starting a record label. The guide outlined the steps it takes to put out a 7 inch record, cassette and compact disc and covered all the bases from designing the sleeve, to getting the tracks mastered and finally how to sell them. Back in the day, you used to have to write them to order a copy, now you can click a link and read [...]

Phoenix has made the instantly catchy new single from their upcoming record available for free download at their website , just in time for spring (70+ degrees in Dallas all week, holler). The band's new LP, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix , is out May 25 . mp3: phoenix :: 1901 ***************** elsewhere : We remain floored by the Mayfair Set 's remarkably warm and [...]
It's not actually snowing outside of my New Jersey apartment but I couldn't think of a better world for "a lot of crap" on such short notice. Hey, if you send me one that sounds better I'll give you something nice. Reasonable, but nice. Anyway, Pop Tarts Suck Toasted posted a nice little batch of songs from one of The Magnetic Fields first albums Get Lost (pre - 69 Love Songs ) in a recent Blast From the Past article. Fans [...]

The Mayfair Set is the new collaborative project from Brooklyn's Blank Dogs + L.A.'s Dum Dum Girls , apparently named after a 1999 Adam Curtis-produced BBC documentary series . They haven't released anything quite yet, and their myspace page is only about two weeks old, but the group was nice enough to send over these tracks from their upcoming 7", due out very soon on Captured Tracks . We are totally in love with both of these songs, which combine Blank Dogs' dark, Joy Division-like baritone with DDG's bright, shimmering, '60s informed [...]
