I don't know about you, but unfortunately I have like, responsibilities, so I'm in on this Sunday eve, hoping to heal the last remnants of hangover, so I made this down-tempo mix. It still rules, though. 01 Bitch Prefect - Marilyn Monroe 02 Weed Hounds - Beach Bummed 03 Sonny & The Sunsets - I Wanna Do It 04 The Meanest Boys - Strangest Things 05 Heavy Hawaii - Beacons 06 The Beets - Time Brought Age 07 Dead [...]

I first heard of TV Girl , the exciting new indie pop duo out of San Diego, not too long ago. Their self-titled EP, which received a bit of heat for sampling Todd Rundgren on the single " If You Want It ", gained the group the notoriety they needed to take it to the next level. For their second trick, they gave the world Benny And The Jetts , a four song EP filled with catchy nostalgia. While nostalgia seems to be a pretty overused word in indie rock, TV Girl was able [...]

The Meanest Boys produces romantic, spontaneous music designed for people who have a tendency to get starry-eyed insta-crushes on others they barely know. A delightfully dark carnival, Californian Will Marquis released the addicting Probably Not EP that will soon be part of a full-length release on Forest Family Records. The EP begins with "Lost in the Fire", which sounds a bit like a lost track off Pet Sounds that Roy Orbison co-wrote. Romantic as hell 60's girl-group guitars warble underneath an angelically wormy synth. Complete with [...]

December has been a crazy little month. I spent half of it in freezing Brighton then came back to LA for it to rain like it was the apocalypse for a week straight. Now its like 75 on Christmas Eve. Craziness. Regardless, here's some of the best tracks I acquired this month: 01 Ghost Outfit [...]
I love doing year end roundup coverage and I'm still waiting to put up the bands to watch list, so I thought we'd highlight some of the great bands we discovered over the past year. Some of them made our 2011 bands to watch list, some of them didn't, some of them aren't even NEW [...]

Your day just got a little meaner and stranger but don't worry, these super chill, fuzzy, lo-fi tunes won't hurt you or bite you...but there's a good chance California's Will Marquis will (if he's as mean as he claims to be). These tracks appear on his Probably Not EP, and up until recently, you were able to bank it for a buck on Bandcamp but now it's only available for your listening and [...]
If you like that California lo-fi and on the cheap pop music that's fun to smoke weed to, this one from The Meanest Boys is for you. {MP3} The Meanest Boys - "Strangest Things" (via Altered Zones)
2010 has been a pretty fun year for music. Every year, I discover more music, better music, and sometimes it cracks me up to see how my music taste grows and differs as the years go by, but I think 2010 has been a great year for new bands and kickass albums. I've compiled my [...]
01 Thee Oh Sees :: Tomorrow I'm going up to London to see SF's magical, mighty Oh Sees and I couldn't be more excited. Having seen them twice already this year, I am keen to make it to four Oh Sees shows on the year, starting tomorrow at Plan B in Brixton and then later [...]

I can always count on Rose Quartz to point out some bat-shit-crazy-amazing music, they've done so most recently with The Meanest Boys , whom I had actually heard of before from their Mirror Universe tape . The western slow coasters create easy going tiki-torch-limbo-pop, heavy on the reverb. They also made a sweet mix marking the death of fourloko . Listen to the rest of their songs at their bandcamp , you wont regret it. The Meanest Boys - Strangest Things

MP3: The Meanest Boys - Strangest Things Real terrific sounds from Cali bedroom popster Will Marquis's solo project, The Meanest Boys. This whole EP rides this kinda technicolor 60s pop tip, swinging from sweet n' wistful to jaunty but always with that totally charming fuzzed out home recording vibe. This track, Strangest Things, is one of the jaunty ones, all swaggering and confident despite the rattling, super-cheap drum machine and overbearing bass riff. You can buy The Meanest Boys' earlier tape from Mirror Universe (also home to RQ faves Cough Cool, Blissed [...]

Daily Doses: The Meanest Boys "Slow Hand" From Cheer Up Friend (2010) I was in the mood for something violent today. I wanted to hear a voice dredged from the bottom of a soul sucking void, a broken call, some bitter lament of loss. Instead I found The Meanest Boys "Slow Hand", and it somehow drained that right out of me. "Slow Hand" was originally released in 2009 on a 20 song CDR, and has just been released again on The "Cheer Up Friend" cassette through Mirror Universe in a limited edition of 100. [...]

The Meanest Boys - Slow Hand The sound of summer relaxation from the meditative bedroom recordings of William Alexander from Fullerton, California. The Meanest Boys will release a self-titled CD of 20-odd tracks through the UK's Cosmos Recordings in October, but in the mean time you can listen to 10 songs on MySpace or check out Alexander's video for 'I'll Take Whatever It Takes' below. The Meanest Boys - "I'll Take Whatever It Takes" Smash my door in, burn my couch, take a crap in my sink. Break all my old VHSs, leave wet black ribbons of The Lion King and Velvet Goldmine all over my cracked and crushed tile floors. Put my books in the microwave, my CDs in the toilet, throw my stupid posters out the window. Sell all my clothes for a high-five, pawn my computer for the price of the plastic it's made of, get as much as you can for my tube tv, you [...]
